DAILY PICS VOL. 36

Hebron, KY

Here's our new thread. It is from http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/794255/

Marlton, NJ

Its okay start another one w/ the pic. :-)

Hebron, KY

ok, sorry. ;-) I was trying to get it set up for everyone and didn't want everyone to wait for me to find a pic.

I'll go thru and look for a pic

Hebron, KY

This is one I took 11/13 in the yard of a female RBW with 2 peanuts! ;-)

Another method- Downy vs. Hairy Woodpecker:
Look at the outer tail feathers....

"Downys have Dots"....outer tail feathers on Downy have a couple of small spots along them: Hairys' outer tail feathers are solid white. Not the easiest to see but sometimes that's all you have.

another one of my finch.

I'll vote for House Finch. :-)

Nice pic Marilyn! Do you have the Red-bellieds at your feeders all year long?

Klamath River, CA

On Daily Pics Volume 35 sadie_mae made the statement

Quoting:
Maybe if it gets too dirty , he'll clean
......some of you scoffed at the thought. As a DH I feel it is my solemn duty to respond. For several years I would hook up my 20ft vacation trailer on May 15th and haul it to Scott River and stay there gold prospecting until October 15th. While I was there I routinely washed the dishes (that was before I had a dog to do them for me) when ever I got down to my last clean plate. I also routinely cleaned the trailer a day before my wife was due for a visit. I hope this puts to rest the notion that us males aren't good house keepers. :)

Marlton, NJ

ROTFLOL, oh adel you are a treasure!

My DH always helps w/ housework; the dog is not allowed to do dishes, lol.

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

LOL adel! My DH does keep his camper clean but he eats off of paper plates, even does his own laundry when he's out of town. At home, he doesn't even know where the cookware is...now something's just not right about that ;-)

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Nanny, I think it's a House Finch too.

I got a not so great pic yesterday of a Hairy and Downy WP on my PB log at the same time. It was raining and I took the shot thru my open truck window, accidentally caught the bottom of the window in the pic. Hairy is at the top of the log. I trashed all the other pics, these dreary days sure make for some yucky pics :-(

Thats neat sadie!

Yes its really hard to take pics in dark dreary weather.

Sometimes I can get a decent one but most times not.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I'll mark it House Finch then! Thanks everyone

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Gotta love all the WPs coming out of the woods... real nice pics everybody!

adel you are a hoot and a half! and pelle your just plain spoiled, lol!! Magnes does more when he's out on his own in the woods too, but I never caught all that, just heard the legends.and tales.

:-

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Adel, my DH also does dishes, laundry and cooks his own breakfast! When I used to travel a lot I always came home to a freshly cleaned house and he'd always say "you should have seen it a few hours ago"! He also milked all the cows and fed all the cats, calves, heifers and dogs! And he likes flowers too!! Gotta love a guy like that!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Sadie...lucky you to get 2 different WP on your log. I have a hairy and a downy on my bird tree today but they were too far apart to get a pic!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

adel I loved the pic of all th juncos... I get a few at a time here when winter really sets in.
pelle, you and rose are very blessed for sure! So is adel's dw! It's wonderful to hear. I'm rotten in other ways for sure.

:-)

Pelle,

Yes, we have RBW, Downies and Hairy's all year at the feeders. The RBW's 'trill' at us to get out of the yard (that's what DH says). LOL

Hebron, KY

I took some photos today after 5 when the sun came out.

Guess you don't want to see feeders on this thread, so I won't post any more. ;-)

I was standing a distance back (as to not scare the birds with my presence) when I took pics today. Took pics of feeders and stuff.

Love to see those Cardinals. I don't know why I don't have any coming around.

Las Cruces, NM

I know many people think of pigeons as pests; but I’ve always loved their iridescent green and purple neck color when you catch them in the sunlight.

The aren’t any “ordinary pigeons” … They know that they’re big and lots of them. They even have their own sign that says so. LOL

Not only do they have their own Big Lots sign; but these pigeon also can read the interstate signs so they can fly the right direction for the winter.

Nice pics Marilyn! I really like that you have the feeders so close to a natural habitat area. I'm so glad I decided to plant 2 Red Buds back about 10 years ago, otherwise, my birdies wouldn't have any good hiding/perching spots in the feeding area.

Jane, I agree the iridescence on the pigeons is beautiful! The only place I see them is along the RR tracks on the way to work and when it's sunny, they really shine! LOL at the signs, they set up some perfect pics for you :-)
