Problem with notification of new postings in Mid-South forum

Brandon, MS(Zone 8a)

Some of us in the Mid-South forum are not being notified of new postings to a watched thread. For example, when I log into Daves Garden and go to my "Home," no new postings appear on any of my watched threads for the Mid-South forum. Yet to the contrary, I do indeed find new postings when I enter into these particular watched threads I am supposed to be notified, but I'm not. Others in the Mid-South forum are experiencing this same problem.

Has anyone else had problems with their forums?

Can someone tell me how to get my problem corrected?

Thank you. Martha

If you can give us the specific thread(s) that you've experienced this problem with, we can take a look.

Hi Terry. Appreciate your help. I also should mention that occasionally, the notifications do appear, but most of the time they do not. Here are three of the threads:

"Today in the Garden"
Larry's Saga - Part 2"
"Just Chat No Subject Come join me #6"

I'll find the thread and I'll post a test message to it. Assuming you see it on your home page alerts, please don't open it until I have a chance to chase it down and post back here.

Okay, I confirmed it is there - can you see it from your home page? (I could when I logged in as you, but I didn't open it, so it should still be there for you to see.)

If you don't see it, the problem is most likely with your browser, which may not be refreshing your page every time you click on a new page.

Terry, I see a notification for "Today in the Garden" but have not opened it. Before I go there, I should ask if there is problem with my browser not refreshing a page, why are so many others in Mid-South having this same problem -- sometimes seeing alerts and sometimes not seeing them?

I'm on my way to open your test message.

Terry, there was no test message from you in that thread.

It was Larry's Saga that I added a test message to - do you see it?

Terry a lot of us are having this problem. I have problems with the same threads. It only happens occasionally. I guess when it happens again we should contact you . I have a thread on Daves here with the same problem. I didn't get a solution. Ecrane really did try to help.

My best guess is it really is a browser issue, but if it's something with the thread watcher process, it will take Dave looking at it to fix it.

When i open my threads, it is down to the bottom of the page. Must scroll back up sometimes as many as 6-7 posts before I find where I left off previously. Has it always done this and I have gone soft in the head?

Lou I have been having some of the same problems sometimes skips 5 or 6 post.

That is probably a case of double-clicking - either in rapid succession, or - if it's taking a while to load the whole thread (long threads will do that) - and you hit the mouse a second time before it finishes loading.

Either way, the system will interpret that second click as a separate request to "skip to new" - but since there weren't any new posts in those few seconds between the clicks, it'll take you to the bottom of the page.

Tks Terry, I will try to watch my clicks.

All of these threads are long so that may be what we are doing. Thanks Terry.

A general rule of thumb is to start a new thread whenever the posts get upwards of 100. It's a nice courtesy to those on dial-up. We can close a thread to new posts once a "sequel" has been started - just contact us after you've added a link to the new thread.

Thanks Terrye.

Thanks Terry. You are probably right about the double-clicking. About the new notifications to postings, today everything was okay. It's just cranky sometimes. Thanks again, Martha

I have started being aware of how many times I click. Lately, DG has been slow to open a link. In my impatience, I click a couple of more times. There you have it. Problem solved.

Thanks, Lou, for your input. You are in my zone. You should hang around this forum more often. I'd like to know about xeric plants (which seem popular in TX). Is that right?

Sweetness, I hang everywhere. Lots of lurking. Love to know what is going on all over the world. DG has just the ticket. Some exeriscape but afraid I have gotten in over my head with tropicals.
With just a little adjustment they are working.

LouC, keep me posted!
