how much longer?????

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

its in my room with a heater blowing on the pot to give it warmth. the heater is on low and i water it whenever it dries out. personally i think it is the ants but i'm not positive. plus right now, we are having hi's in the low 80's, so it it was outside, i wouldn't worry too much if it was outside for a bit it is also in front of a 9' triple window with southern exposure

Tucson, AZ

i'm inclined to say that it's not happy about something in the house (e.g. lighting, drafts, etc.) i've had ants live in my plumeria pots and never had a problem. the only time i had a problem with them it's was very obvious. harvester ants stripped all the leaves off of my caribbean plumeria. the small tiny sugar ants i don't even worry about. whatever it is good luck. buds dropping is always a bummer!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

yeah... and it would have been my first one ever.... it did fall over several days ago, and it bled from the base of that flower... i wonder if that is what caused it?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

How about misting it when it is in the house. A heater blowing on it could really dry out the air around the plants. Another thought would be to keep a pan of water in front of the heater to evaporate and provide extra humidity.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

how about one of those humidifiers that you can get at CVS? i have one of those in my room just not running

Tucson, AZ

is it possible to just turn off the heater or not blow it directly on the pot? a heat mat would work better and only cost pennies to run 24/7.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

well the problem is that i don't have one, and with christmas coming and no job and my need for a car, i really have no money for one

Tucson, AZ

that's no problem because it's not necessary. it's just more of a luxury and energy saver.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

oh... well since i'm a minor, my parents pay the bills

Yuma, AZ

Ah the benefits of being young! How are the rest of the flowers coming DHS?
Davie

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

good amaryllis is opening up, but is deformed cuz of damage to the bulb. poinsettia is coming out outside, and this warm weather is really helping it since it is marginal here. also sambac jasmine will bloom shortly too.... hmmm what else.... camellia japonicas around town will open shortly. oh yes... and the last few cllistemon citrinus blooms until late feb.

I think dropping the plant on the buds might have caused some damage that was not immediately apparent.
Also I agree that having the heater blow on it might not be a great idea. Humidity is good.
I think the ants are not really a problem.

Let's hope there will be other buds.... :-)

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

so should i get the humidifier going again?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

ok despite the first one falling off, the second batch is past the point the first one got to!!!

Very nice! That looks promising!

DHs,
Very nice, especially for being inside. I could never get my blooms as big inside as I could outside, and it took twice as long for them to open.

thanks all of y'all i am like real excited! this is like perfect timing cuz school is out on wed. and yesterday-wed. are half days so i'll have lots of quality time w/ my plumeria! the only problem is that it will be so hard to study for exams with that beauty in my room.... oh well... i already took the toughest ones

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Diehard..
Well if Ardesia thought you should grow out some of her seeds from Gordon's Wild Panamaians. I'm sure you'll do just fine with them... don't over warter them though. it's humid there. but water dry sometimes.... usually the plumeria are found growing on the edge of something..just so they get full sun... and don't have to rub aganst other trees... as their tender branches will leak if they are scraped [personal theory ]
Good Luck with your flowers ....the bunch of flowers posted here are from the tree your seeds came from.. it was about 60'+ tall.. the seed pods were about18" long and were taken from limbs maybe30' off the ground... plumeria tree climbing is such fun...I got up about 15 feet or so with a 20 foot stick to get the seeds... way out on the tips of the higher limbs..
If you'd like to see a bunch of pictures from this trip.. with pilesof plumeria shots.. and some nature there in Panama.. perhaps you can get to the lot of them..here

Yes.. it is indeed beautiful there...
naturally .. you'll not see a brug. growing near the coast... and I never saw plumeria growing wild way up ...inland... it's too cool and wet in the interior for the plumies to choose there... and I never saw one brug along the hotter coast... but in the higher rainner mountains the brugs are indeed large bushes/trees.. one townhas them growing ashedge rowplantingsalong the road of all of the coffee fields..
wish I had bought a bit of beach front when I was there.. but I was torn beetween a few places... and the family was aganst it being so provential or remote.. for their social ideals... Good growing ..
