Let It Snow!

Brainerd, MN

It started snowing here around 8 a.m. Didn't expect much lunch traffic but to my surprise, the goldfinches landed by airbus.

If you've got snow, show us your snow birds please!

Oh my goodness sybil what a scene!

Maybe in a few days I'll have something close to that; we'll see as the storm crosses the country. :-)

Brainerd, MN

And another visitor. This is a Hairy Woodpecker, right? The smaller ones that look about the same are the Downys....?

Stop groaning experts...! :)

Yes thats larger than a Downy so its definitely a Hairy!

Your getting such great birds!

Brainerd, MN

I have woods, marsh and a lake behind me. Across the road there are woods and the Mississippi River. Birds that will come this far north will likely find my backyard.

For a short while we lived about 2 hours directly south of here and were on a flight path for so many migrating birds I couldn't keep up. I did not have a camera at that time. If I'd had one, we would probably still be living there! I wouldn't have been able to tear myself away.

I don't have any pics or snow yet but my yard is REALLY getting busy w/ birds now probably bulking up for the storm.

And Whoohoo I had my first Red-bellied Woodpecker come to the feeder since late Spring or Summer. A young female who made several trips in for sunflower seeds.
Also the WB Nuthatch made a visit! So nice to see some variety in the yard!

Nice pics sybil!

What are your temps now?

Brainerd, MN

Very cool! Not the temps, the RbWP!

Doesn't feel that cold. It's probably close to 20 degrees. How's that for vague?

I just brought the dog in. My black dog was a white dog, especially on her snout! (Looking for her bone.)

Great pics Sybil!

Burrr, we're waiting on what may possibly be our fist snow of the season tomorrow and our feeders were pretty busy today too.

Stay warm!

Brainerd, MN

You too! Show me some snowy pics tomorrow. :)

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

So that white stuff is "snow", is it? Wasn't quite sure.

;-)

Brainerd, MN

Yep, that's snow. I haven't seen a "white" Christmas in 4 years. My luck just ran out! Stay tuned for the pictures of the morning after here.

As this storm moves through I hope to see more pics from others.

Hebron, KY

Sybil,

All great pics! Where did you get that feeder that the White
Breasted Nuthatch is on? I like it!

20 degrees isn't cold?! Brrr! I think it is. But, I've been known to go outside in just a T - shirt and long pants to feed the birds. lol ;-)

Thanks for sharing. Hope we don't get any snow here.

Beautiful pictures !! We are getting the snow today-a few inches and now freezing rain. The birds were no where to be found today- all are hiding, even with the feeders ready for them. And Oh, the driving is really treacherous. I was out shovelling and watching the cars skidding thru the stop sign. I guess people have to relearn to drive in the snow and ice.

Brainerd, MN

soapwort243 - sorry to hear about the freezing rain. Everyone should just stay home when the roads are iced up like that. Thankfully we missed the ice, just got snow. Still snowing. Probably will get the twelve inches predicted.

All of our feathered friends will be really hungry tomorrow!!!!

Be warm. Be safe.

Marilynbeth - The peanut feeder came from a local wild bird store. It's a tube feeder with open mesh sides like many you will find at Fleet or Farm stores. I use peanut peices, not in-shell peanuts. It is a favorite feeding station for most birds that come through here.

Thank you Sybil, You are so right -- stay home or slow down. Wow- 12 inches- you are getting alot. And also you are right about the feathered friends being hungry tomorrow. The first snow fall sure is pretty though.

Good Morning!

Woke up to 25 degrees temps and a light dusting of snow.

Most pics would not turn out due to the dark skies but heres one that shows the new dusting on one of the feeders w/ a House Finch munching away.

Awww! Looks like you have some green leaves yet. Have a great morning.

Marlton, NJ

Hi Sybil, Yes theres a few trees that have hung on w/ leaves but most are bare.

Brainerd, MN

A couple of shots for now - this one took my breath away - not the photo quality obviously, but the subjects.

I wish I could stay home tomorrow but you know what they say, "neither rain nor snow nor gloom of night can stay these carriers from their appointed rounds".

So I'm the only one with snow???That can't be right!

Marlton, NJ

LOL, don't feel bad sybil.

I wonder if nanny had snow.

No she just had rain.

I'm sure it won't be long until all in the northern half have snow.

It stayed too warm here for the snow, supposed to be down to 29 tonight but I think the rain will be over by then. You sure got some nice snowy pics though!

Love the shot with the RBW AND the Pileated!! You lucky woman you!!

Milwaukee, WI

We got about 4 or 5 inches last night. Very wet and heavy for shoveling. For some reason the RBNs weren't around today. Lots of Mourning doves and House sparrows but didn't see a nuthatch or even a downy WP. Strange.
