Ok, thanks! I will get to that when I have some water pressure back! An empty house a couple down from us has about 5 gushers right now! :(
Newbie would love some Hoya cuttings/seeds
HI...gd is right on...they like tight shoes and well draining soil.
Have fun!!
Carol
I finally got around to re potting it today and realized just how bad it really is. I pulled off several dead 'sticks' and leaves. I just hope that it perks up now that it is in a decent soil!
I use a little potting soil and then 3/4 of the pot I use Orchid mix and have had good results. You're not meaning you potted in reg. potting soil?
Jeri
I used the special draining Miracle-Gro soil, but I do have some Orchid Mix if I need to redo it? The soil it was in wasn't any different than any other plant I have gotten, so I wouldn't have known any better than to have used something else. :( Please let me know if I should re re-pot it. Thanks!
Hi there,
I personally would repot. Even though it might say "special draining", I'm sure it's still regular potting soil (but can you list the ingredients that are on the package just to make sure?). So since you just repotted, I'd just do it again now instead of bothering it again at a later time. I never use straight reg. potting soil. It's best to use a fast draining mix for hoyas (e.g., 1 part orchid bark, 1 part regular potting soil, and 1 part perlite.....or you can just use some orchid mix with added perlite for extra drainage).
Gabi
Edited to add: Jeri's mix sounds good too, and you already have those ingredients so that might be easiest.

Hi Gabi,
I don't have the bag any more, so can't give you the ingredients. All I know is it was the Miracle -Gro Well Draining, or so it said. Personally, I am not impressed with it, as I have found that the cheap mix is just as good, or even better. I have quite a lot of orchid mix, but no perlite. Is there something that can be substituted for the perlite? I am amazed at the lack of care for the growers and their plants! Thanks again for your help! :) Also, since I already sound like, and really don't, know what I am doing, could you tell me your method of planting? LOL Do you put the Orchid Mix in the bottom of the pot then add the soil on top once you have set the plant in the pot? I feel stupid for having to ask, but, live and learn so they say! :)
Orchid bark is a good thing to mix with your potting soil...any potting soil. Hoyas love growing like orchids too.
Hi Carol!!! I do like similar to your method. The potting soil I use has alot of perlite so I put 1/3 of the pot with that. Stick my cutting in and fill up to 1/4" from top with the orchid mix. The only one I can find is Schultz here.

Hey all! I got side tracked! We have Puppies! We have a little girl and have a little boy, too! They are a cross between Min. Poodle-Daddy, and Mommy is a Pug. I am gonna call them Puddles since they can't be registered. I got Daddy free so I didn't get his papers. Otherwise, they would have to be called Pug-A-Poos. :) Is it unheard of to only have two puppies in the first litter? She did go quite a long while in between, but sure thought there would be more? Oh ya, a friend was here and called the little boy Tuxedo since he has white on his paws, neck and chest. She isn't being the best Mommy yet, so I hope she will do better soon! :) This is exciting! :) Anyway, I think the re re-potting will have to wait til tomorrow! :)
Congrats!! That's exciting :) Where are the puppy pics???
I mix my 3 soil ingredients all together before potting my plants. That wasn't a dumb question at all. When you get a chance, I'd buy either orchid bark or perlite (or both) - they are great soil amendments. There is probably already orchid bark in your orchid mix, so if you get perlite and add some to the orchid mix you'll be fine. That's what I do sometimes.
Have fun with your new pups!
Gabi
Thanks! The computer broke the other day and just got it fixed. We don't have everything reinstalled, but I will get pics as soon as he puts it back! :)
I will probably wait til tomorrow after all the excitement to repot them, so I hope that it will be ok! Glad to know it wasn't a dumb question! LOL
We are gonna have to hand feed the baby girl I believe as she is having a hard time with the nipple. Now the boy on the other hand is a totally different story! You can pull him off and he just goes and finds another one! LOL They are just way too cute! :)
Putting a layer of perlite in the bottom of the pot ... or I reckon straight orchid bark...works wonders....about 1/5 of the pot at the bottom. I find it solid with roots when I repot....
Carol
I did get it re potted again today, so we shall see how it looks in a few days or so. :) Thanks again for all the help!
Oh, those puppies sound CUTE!!
I'm not partial to poodles, but I love pugs - just can't afford one;)
I use M.G. soil and mix it with Schultz 'Orchid Potting Mix' for hoyas, and I usually don't add any perlite, as the MG soil has 'some' in it. It works really well for me for not just hoyas, but all plants.
I'm dying over here! Those are scrumptious little pups. How bout we do a trade..a few hoya cuttings for a pup ;) Haha...just kidding - one dog is MORE than enough for me!
Good luck with your plants -n- pups.
Gabi
LOL thanks gabi! plants-n-pups, how cute a user name that would be! :)
OMG, how cute!! Love the puppies!!
Karen
He is gorgeous! I just hope ours grow up to be as pretty!
Thanks all! :)
Aww, I'm in love!! LOL!!
Shanghai's adorable, too, ima, and does, indeed, appear to be 'all dressed up'!!!
