I have really been having a problem with this happening this week . When I go to my home page it says I have no new post to my watched threads then I go to my thread and there will be several new posts. I am also findingwhen I say skip to new it sometimes skips four post I have not seen. I don't know if this is happening because I am using IE this week. I am using I Explorer because Foxfire's page jumps with every key stroke. Very annoying. This just started too.
New post on my watched threads not showing up
Sounds like you might be double clicking on the links. That's that happens when I double click.
On the watched threads...first, are you positive you're watching them? It's easy enough on an individual thread to accidentally check the link saying you don't want to watch it anymore. Or there's a setting in your preferences for whether you want to watch the threads you post to or not, if this setting accidentally got changed you might not be autowatching anymore.
If you're positive they're still being watched, then I would check the order of things on your home page. The last person this happened to had the order on her home page set so that the watched threads were showing up at the bottom rather than the top of the page, so I'd go to your preferences and check that your watched threads are set to show up in Column 1 in one of the first couple positions.
And for skipping posts you haven't read--it's not a problem with IE, I use IE and it works just fine. My first thought would be what UniQueTreasures said, if you're doubleclicking on a thread title instead of single clicking, or if a thread is loading a little slow and you click the link a 2nd time, then the skip to new doesn't always work right.
Oh...the other possibility on the skip to new is if you're in a thread, then you click on a thumbnail pic to view it, then while you're looking at the pictures maybe a couple of posts got made. Then when you go back to the main thread maybe you didn't notice that some new posts were made and move on to other things, but then the next time you come back to the thread the computer thinks you read those posts already and skips you past them.
All these threads are being watched. I am not clicking on the threads . I am on my home page and my threads are not showing new post when there are new post on them. I don't know if there has been a time delay or something of that nature with so many people on Daves on the holidays. These post were at 1 and 2 in the am though.I was holding a conversation with some one that was delayed because I would not see that she had posted to that thread again. If I just went to the thread anyway I would see she had posted.
I bet your home page hadn't refreshed itself and wasn't showing the latest version--if you hold down the Shift key and click the refresh button on your browser, that will force it to load the newest version, and then your watched threads will show up. I suspect this may be the problem since you mentioned that you were having a conversation, often the browser won't reload that latest version that quickly on its own. This is a feature of your browser and is not controlled by DG.
The suggestions about clicking were to help you figure out your other problem of why "skip to new" wasn't working right, it's completely unrelated to the thread watcher.
Yes Cindy, don't think your the only one. I am having to go to the thread itself as well. It's been happening alot this week. Thought it was just me.
OK, I just clicked out of Daves Garden completely, then clicked back on. Normally and everyday since I signed up, there is an update box ABOVE the box that looks like this
______________________________________________________________
You are watching ___ Forums
New Message Board Who Last Post
yes Mid South Jeri1 9:43

Normally there is another box above my watched forum box that says "you have updated post in your watched forums or something like that. But it hasn't been doing that this week. I litterally have check to see time of last post and if it says new to keep up. Does that make since?

ecrane it had time to reload since it would be 15 or more min before I would go back to the thread because I would think she was not there.. It only seems to be happening on my midsouth forum. That may be explained by the majority of my saved threads are there. It does not happen all the time
I really appreciate you trying to work this out for me. Sometimes typing gives a different tone to our voice that we don't mean.
Even if it's been 15 min, it still could be the browser refresh thing. Sometimes they refresh themselves more quickly but sometimes they don't. But if it's only doing it on certain forums then maybe it's something else.
I'm finding your right ecrane. When I click out of DG for about 30 minutes and return it shows me my updates. I'm just not used to it taking so long. I normally click back and forth for hours and it has been no problem. Why is it doing it now I wonder?
Browsers can be funny sometimes, I've noticed when I've been in a forum and I go back to the home page sometimes it will have loaded a new version of the home page and sometimes it hasn't, and it's very unpredictable when it loads a new version and when it doesn't. I think there are some things in the browser settings that can control how often it loads the latest version of the page, but I've played around with the settings and haven't noticed too much difference in how it behaves. So whenever I'm on the home page, I always look at the time that's displayed in the corner, if it says the current time then I figure I've got the latest version, but if the time is from a few minutes ago, then I know it's time to refresh. Many times just clicking the refresh button on the browser will work, but if that still doesn't, then shift-refresh forces it to load the latest version.
Thanks I will try that too

In the last DG newsletter, MSG forum was second to the top in the number of posts. That may be presenting a "menopausal" problem LOL (having a hot flash). I have noticed the same... sorry!
