Gene,
Gorgeous new pink!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Gene, I love the shading in the throat of that pink flower. Very interesting.

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Very nice Gene. Did it bloom the color it is or did it fade to it?

Oh Cat, I've never seen so many gorgeous hibiscus in one thread!! You have room for all of them? I'm in awe.

Great pictures, everyone. I really do like Blueberry Thrill and Mary Poppins. Really nice.

Robert I caught that one almost as soom as it bloomed. It never did fade all day.
Thanks everyone for all the nice remarks on the pink. We'll see what happens with it you never know...................Gene

Okay - this is why I'm addicted to DG - I am always thrilled with the beautiful pictures that you post - Cat I especially LOVE standing ovation! Gene - WOW - I really do like the shades of pink on your newbie! Questions Gene - do you nick your seeds when you are going to grow them - if so where do you nick - I have a few seeds that I got from AHS and would love to plant but I've heard you get faster/better results if you nick the outer coat to aid in growing. I'm scared to death that I'd nick the wrong part of the seed

Tulsa, OK

Pizonne - OMG - I've never seen so many buds on a Rum Runner - what do you do - you must feed it fertilizer that it really really likes! Course the fact that you live in Zone 9a may have something to do with that too! :)

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Ultimate shopper,

I fertilize weekly but they are loving the cooler weather. And on this particular Rum Runner I usually get 10" blooms. I will be taking cuttings to see if I can clone it. She is a true beauty.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Just beautiful.

Katy, TX

Everyone has there on method they think works best. If the seeds are fresh you may not need to nick them. I usually do just in case. If you look at the seed you see it has a point on one end and a round larger side. A very small nick on the round side will do the trick. I hold the seed down with my thumb nail and nick it with a razor blade with the other just remember to keep it just a nick.................Gene

Thanks so much Gene - I'm anxious to sow the seeds - I'm getting a bunch from the Australian Hibiscus Society - they said they had excess so put extras in along with the 25 that they were originally sending - lots of Roslind crosses to & I LOVE Roslind so I'm pretty excited - I know I may have quite a wait till they bloom (18 months I hear) but I think it's worth it! :)

I also got 4 pkts of seeds from the American HS interesting mixes: All Aglow x Mini Ballerina (4), President x Ft Myers Yellow (7); Pink Blush x Howard Hine (3) and 1 Scarletta x Gator Pride - many of these I have never seen or heard of so it'll be like Xmas when they bloom! Can't tell how fresh they are though... I'll be sure to just nick them - hey do you use a heating pad when you sow to keep the temps warm or just a reg. plant light?

Katy, TX

Ultimateshopper There are heat pads you can buy just for that purpose or some people even set them on top of there frig.. You really don't need a light until they germinate then depending on where you keep them kind of determins the light. Just don 't burn them. You'll do great...................Gene

Nice blooms Robert my favorite is Cosmic Dancer but they are all real beautys..............Gene

Thanks Gene,
I do believe Rose Amethyst is one of barrys. several may open tomorrow but the front may slow them down. I was hoping to make an arrangement for the table but we will see. I also have a couple others from Don that have bloomed but I am waiting for them to loose the reflex back some to show the full bloom instead of just the center. By the way I am suprised we have not run into each other at the shows. Are you on THML also?
Robert

Robert,
Love Rose Amethyst and Cosmic Dancer. Georgia's Thunder is looking great, too.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Beautiful pics , Why is that chartreuse rose called that name anyways. Not much rose in it? LOL

That quarter looks like a dot on that flower

Katy, TX

Yes Robert I'm on thml. Have been for several years but don't post a lot so we might have missed each other. Barry told me about Daves and I thought I would check it out and I really like it. Rose Amethyst is really nice as well I'm a big fan of Barrys and like most evreything he produces.......................Gene

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello Kathy ann,

Well just a guess on chartruse rose. Chartruse because of the color and rose being Rose mallow or something having to do with hibiscus like rosa-sinensis but who knows.LOL

Gene I too am a big fan of barry's and have several of his beauties. I will also be growing many many more in near future.

Take Care stay warm,
Robert
