Pay Pal (just can't do it)

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Every time I bid on ebay h
and have to use paypal to pay, it takes 2 days of trying before they acepy my payment. Everytime they tell me my credit cards are no good, and my bank account has no money. Then, all of a sudden on day 2 they acept my payment. I just spent an hour trying to get them to take my money, with no avail. Am I the only one having this problem? Any input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I've been on Paypal since it's early inception and have had
nothing but positive results in using the system.

When you make a payment, say for Ebay, are you clicking on the
link the seller or Ebay sends you?

You might try logging directly into Paypal, check your balance and
then send the seller funds from your account. True, you will have to
fill in more blanks, but I always advise this route. It eliminates the
threat of phishing or other scams. Certainly not to say all links are
dangerous, but one can never be too careful.

Also, from where do the funds for your Paypal account come? In
other words, if they are backed up by a checking account, are you
certain your account has funds? You may have put money into the account,
but until it is cleared and shown as available, your payment will be in
limbo.

Hope this helps,
KM

I've never had a problem with paypal either...try depositing some money in the paypal account for use when you need it. I've never heard of problems like you are having.

Any luck since then? I've used PayPal for years with no problems. We just set up a second checking account which we keep with a near-zero balance and use that as our registered bank account with PayPal. When we want to make a purchase, we transfer just the amount into that internet account. That way, if there's an issue with someone getting that bank card's number or account information, they will have nothing to steal.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Aw, Jordan, they don't dislike anyone, you are the customer.

Has it worked for you since?

KM

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

nope, so i quit trying

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Have you called their customer service to explain your problems?

It could easily be a setting you control. Never know until you ask.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Paypal really has no "customer service". I've tried to contact them before and the only way was by email if they chose to respond to you.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I've been using PayPal for years and I set up a PayPal account and they pay a really good interest on the money I leave in the account - so money is always there when I want to buy something. The only drawback is that it takes me 4 days to get money to and from PayPal when I need to do a transfer. I do agree that they have really, really bad "customer service".

Have you asked the bank if the problem might be with them? Some are set up different for certain types of withdrawals. There are also different types of payments. I love having my account and use it for lots of different things. There are many sellers that do not take credit cards but do take Paypal. I hope it works out for you.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

I have had "iffy" service from them as well..check out this website http://paypalsucks.com/

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

thanks to all that responded.i think the problem just might be me!

Probably not! LOL

The only problem I have had with PayPal has been using the debit card. Recently, it has not worked and when I call in they say it is on security hold, they ask my for my ID, which they verify, and then they release the hold but then it goes back on again.

PayPal has a phone number: 402-935-2017

gardenwife, since you have a paypal account, wouldn't it make sense to just transfer your funds directly to it for purchases, rather to another regular banking account? It seem you are taking 3 steps rather than 2.
I have never had Paypal trouble even though my bank's debit card has misspelled my name.

I guess we could transfer money to PayPal from our bank, but our local bank's online banking interface is very simple. Plus, would we even be able to transfer funds to PayPal instantaneously like we can from one of our bank's accounts into the other? PayPal direct debits that internet account - it's our registered account with them. We don't pay via debit card when we pay with PayPal; it's a direct draw from the internet account. That way we just have one account for internet stuff and we either use its debit card or PayPal, depending on which the online merchant takes.

We like sticking with our local bank for the majority of our transactions because they offer good fraud protection and have great customer service. I figure either way I'm doing two steps - transferring money, then doing a PayPal transaction for payment.

Hey Guys; I too Hate Paypal.I do not buy on Ebay-usually, but a lot of seed companies (small) that don't have merchant accounts.I only use 1 Visa card when ordering on the net.Anytime I attempt to use Paypal They request another CC,even though the one I use has a large limit. They just want more info.I side step the Paypal service and order without Paypal. In the conformation email the company states that I already have a paypal account and to please use it next time I order.I then send them an email stating what I said above and none of them have yet to complain when I reorder.

Sorry ! Nothing but trouble!
My bank had it's credit card numbers hijacked couple years back, and I wasn't even trying to use paypal, when they sent me a notice that my account had been froze, well I forgot about the numbers being hijacked, but the bank had sent memos I guess to all the places I had used the card,to let them know what has happened and not to accept it.
Well thats fine, after I got a new credit card from the bank and tried to set up a new account, all I could get was my account was still frozen and they would let me know when I could open a new one, even after calling on the phone, explaining to them,I thought I was getting some where, nope same thing still kept happening, finally just a couple months back I got a e-mail saying it was alright to open a account, after 2 or so years I said forget it,I'll just send a money order, don't need any more hassles in life!!!

I think I may be too stupid to be using paypal. I gave them my checking account number but i don't know anything about money in a pay pal account. They also have a credit card behind my bank account?????????

I am going to pay pal and see if i have a separate account with money in it?????? I always thought it came directly out of my bank account.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

We have ours set up the same way - payments made via PayPal come directly out of the internet account we have at our bank, the one I mentioned earlier. There is a PayPal debit card which some people use, and some people keep a balance at PayPal, transferred from their checking account or just kept on account at PayPal after they've received funds. When they use the debit cards, the money is drafted from the money they leave sitting out at PayPal. I think that's what they're talking about.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I noticed there was 100+ dollars in my pay pal account but I just thought they always used my regular checking account. I don't ever get afraid because I pay 11.00 a month for a monitoring service to notice any change into my credit for any reason. They email me immediately when there is an inquiry and i tell them it is me and not someone else. It is the best 11.00 a month I have ever spent.....peace of mind is what it brings. (any inquiry into any one of the 3 credit reports)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Do you use Lifelock? That's one I hear advertised all the time on the radio.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

No, I use Citicard monitoring something. I started using it about 7 years ago because i am so dingy and don't keep good records or destroy mail I should. It is incredible what they pick up. For example, my son had had back surgery and couldn't help in moving to a new place. I put the utilities in my name just to get them on and knew that he could go back later and get it straightened out. Within 12 hours I was getting email saying there had been an inquiry regarding x by Equifax.

I've tried several times to use PayPal, and there is always a problem. If I am looking at something to buy, and find out I have to use PayPal, I go somewhere else. It just won't work for me.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I've used it for years without problem. I like that when I sell something, I just leave the money in my account and then use it to buy other things. Kinda my own "slush fund".
LOL

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

I'm sure it works for most, because it seems millions use it... It just won't work for me... Maybe it's my 'old' brain... but I don't think so.
