Strikeout html tags in the forums.

I love the ability to use the html italic (-i-) tag to denote plant species and the bold (-b-). I noticed the strike out tag (-s- or -strike-) is removed. This would be very handy for edited post so that people could see what has been edited. What is DG's opinion on this? I think it would still be in keeping with DG's formating consistency.

My thought would be when people delete something, there may be lots of cases where they really don't want what they deleted to be seen. Either they posted something incorrect, or something that people could easily misinterpret as being rude, etc, etc. And even in cases where they wouldn't mind having people see what they had written, I think most people are just going to edit their post and delete what they wrote, they're not going to take the time to go back and use the html tag to do a strikethrough on it. Plus a lot of people don't know html tags in the first place, so I don't think you'd wind up with very many people editing their posts that way. Not saying there's anything wrong with the idea of allowing that tag, I'd just be surprised if very many people used it.

I agree that not many people will use it...but for those of us who would it would be much appreciated. I don't think that many people use the bold or italic tags, but they are made available. Sometimes deleting part of a post makes understanding the conversation very difficult. The strikeout would allow those coming into a post to understand what has happened. In the plant trading forum, for example, one could strike out plants that have been traded...or changes in the trade agreement/arrangement.

So how do you use those two html tags? I would use italics and bold if I knew how. But would probably not use strike to edit a post.
One of your html illiterates here. Thanks. Harold

HaroldS, here's a quick step-by-step to the html tags we currently allow: http://davesgarden.com/faq/forums/#131

I can't speak to the strike-out tag being added; that would be up to Dave ;o)

I struck out the tag from the disallow list this morning.

Thanks Dave!

Great suggestion, willmetge! And thanks for implementing it, Dave.

This will definitely be useful when trading. And I think it could also make some of the word game edits less confusing... plus, it's just easier to add the strike outs to edit a post than to first remove the lines and then add a phrase in italics to explain, such as "Edited to remove incorrect explanation of thus and such. Thanks to Jane Doe for catching my error."

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I just used it in the Plant Trading forum...thanks!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Ooh, thanks! I like love the strikethrough feature,
glad we are allowed to use it.

It can often be used in humor. Thanks Many thanks, Dave!

I can see where it will be useful in the Plant Trading forum. Just hope folks don't start using it in other posts. Makes it very hard to read and will be difficult for those who already have vision problems.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh, I love it, and have already used it in other forums.
Certainly it is not something one should use all the
time, of course, but is fun as well as handy at times.

For those who cannot see well, a trick I just had to utilize
today, simply hold down the CTRL button and mouse up
or down to increase the font size on your screen. Very
handy for those of us with changing vision.

If you have a roller button on your mouse (PC), you can also hold control while scrolling (rolling) up or down to zoom in and out. This enlarges everything including graphics.

Whoops, that is actually what I meant, using the wheel, not
the mouse. LOL. Thanks.
