Awe, that is awful! We need to find a way to get the rooster and crickets there! :)
Neighbor sprayed Roundup on my property
after of course the rooster is gorged with invasive weed seeds, also he won't be as likely to eat as many of the crickets. where do we send all of these things to? what day would be convenient?
ROFLMAO!
is yellow freight ok or do you prefer allied van lines?
WOW, you are planning on what they call a "Wide Load"! LOL
LOL!!!
5Pine is gonna have to "cricket proof" his own yard, too! LOL It seems like he has disappeared from this discussion?
It does seem that way...
Maybe we scared him thinking we were all nut cases! LOL
I know! How about a one way round robin? We can start a box here up north and add crickets and other "not so" goodies along the way until it gets to 5 pines. I bet I could find some of those prickly sweet gum balls to decorate his doorsteps with. LOL
Ohmyohmyohmy!! Where have you folks been all my life?!! Yotedog...You seemed like such a nice lady when we met, LOL! Little could I have guessed;->
Ya'll have made my night! And I thought I was evil!
Bev
LMAO! :) :)
Ooohhhhhh....I can feel those sweet gum balls under my feet...
And those sweetball can get some real velocity coming out the business end of a mower, too!!
I have LOTS of gumballs I can spare! :)
Send that guy an itemized bill. Make sure to add plenty for labor. Mail it to him return reciept requested. He will no doubt refuse to pay it but it should make the point that his actions are costing you and add credence to the idea (true or not) that a lawsuit may follow....
I'm really to sorry to hear about your insensitive idiot of a neighbor. sheesh! I'd like to suggest an alternative to the rooster...there's always peacocks and guinea hens, not to mention those wonderful "watchdogs" of the bird kingdom, geese. Peacocks calls will make your hair stand on end, guaranteed! LOL Ah, I do so love it when evil minds work together!
As of a few years ago, some people in China still have elaborate little cricket cages and there were antique stores that had the older ones made out of ivory and bone. Some of them looked like powdered sugar shakers- never did understand that. I found them to be so eerily beautiful that I bought one (looked like it was made out of toothpicks) to bring home for my niece. For some reason, they got me to thinking about that Dicken's book "A Cricket on the Hearth".
I felt so deprived by the lack of goodies for sale at Lowes that I went online and ordered myself a few orchids I've been wanting for a while. I needed an excuse to do that.
Peacocks = nails on chalkboard
I see that big old Mandarin plant over on the right. You braggart you!
So Sorry, I just couldn't help myself! LOL Now once I learn my way around all this gardening stuff I will be more than happy to share! :) Guess I can bring it with me in May and show it off? :) LOL
Where are you going in May?
MoBot Garden :)
You made me drool so now I'm going to make you drool!
Here's what I just bought-
Phragmipedium lindenii

Oh now, did you have to go and do that?! LOL That is one cool looking plant! Now I THINK I NEED ONE! :)
Here's where I bought mine and while I was poking around at that site I did buy a few more that were calling out to me (couldn't resist), scroll down to lindenii-

His plants are always real nice and pest free.
If you haven't grown orchids before, this might not be a good choice for a first.
WHOA, those are definitely out of my price range. :( I don't have any orchids other than what I was told is an orchid cactus, and it isn't doing so well. :( I have this bad habit for succulents and cacti for some reason! Well, guess you could not tell that by the pic, and that is only PART of what I have! LOL
I also bought an ecuadorense and a fischeri-

I couldn't help myself. I deserved those plants for having to go without goodies from Lowes!
WOW, I love those! Doggone it anyway! Darned ole Lowe's for not having what I got! LOL
Oops typing when you were typing.
Yaa, they were out of my price range too but every once in a while you just gotta go for it. I was sort of in the mood since winter is around the corner and I get really itchy at this time of year because spring seems so far away and the dirt I'm used to playing is is cold...very cold and will be frozen like a block of ice in the not too distant future.
Here's a photo of one of mine that's in spike right now-
Yes, I know the feeling about the cold! Gotta get the door on my new green house, soon! I really gotta quit looking at flower pics cause I really feel like I need one of each! :)
Are you getting close to getting addicted yet? If not, I've got about 20 more sending up flower scapes and I can keep posting as the bloom until you break down and buy one little one from somebody local.
Not yet, got it built then the weather turned nasty, then my truck broke, got it fixed, weather turned nasty! you know how it goes! LOL
That is beautiful! I need some orchids now!
Yes, you have me hook, line, and sinker! LOL I donno where I would find any around here, though.
Mail order! Start a thread somewhere like in the Orchid Forum and get help selecting one plant that people who grow orchids believe to be bombproof for what you have readily available. Start with one that is around $20. If it makes it 6 months, try a second. Baby steps.
Bomb proof! I like that one! Probably what I would need to grow one, too! LOL :)
Oh ya, I'll 2nd the vote of peacocks! Nasty birds, beautiful and AWFUL!!! The neighbor's darn birds would roost on the hand rail of our stairs, poop and screech. Oh happy memories of "home"!!!
Best to find something to just annoy the neighbor and not them, too! :)
I so loved yotedog's crickets. Does this mean they're out because they'd be too loud for 5PinesNatural too? Pity, I thought that suggestion was the epitome of evil genius.
Peacocks are very loud but they aren't nasty birds. Geese can be nasty and there are some that probably would make great guard dogs.
Hey psychw2! How be you?
mistygardener- There are actually quite a few you can grow as window sill culture at room temperature in our low humidity that don't need a lot of expensive equipment that are affordable. Same deal with carnivorous plants- many you can grow on a window sill.
Are you sitting down, there are orchids out there sold by the inch. I kid you not. Prices per inch ranging anywhere from $25 an inch on up to some I've seen for over $200 an inch per leaf. They measure the length of ALL leaves on the plant and that's what you pay. There are quite a few plants in price ranges that are about equal to the cost of a decent little compact car. I guess you buy your plant, place it in your lap, make car engine noises, and pretend like you are driving a car after buying one of those because you certainly wouldn't have money for both.
Before you ask, I do not own any like that. It would take the fun out of growing them. As far as I'm concerned, anything over a couple hundred dollars for a plant is pushing it for me even if it is only a once a year splurge.
