I will have to head over there on my way home from work tomorrow! That's too good of a sale to pass up!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

This is sounding like pretty deep cuts. Do we think they may be going out of business? I'll have to check one of the Armstrong's down here.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

It is advertised as their Winter Clearance. I would think out of business sale would include statuary, fertilizers, etc. They don't seem to have the ad posted on their site and I left my copy at work.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Hmmmmm.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

Sale started Tuesday. I get the e-mail notice Thursday. Ain't technology wonderful?

Well shoot, just now seeing this, you think there's anything left worth going? Or maybe I should just pretend I never saw this thread. :-) Ive's done enough shopping damage at Oakland Longs, Ace Hardware yesterday and Regan's today.

This is fall Sue, we are supposed to stop buying plants!! So what did you find at those 3 stores? Shoot, I can't go but torture me anyway! Tom's family is here and we are so busy. TT is flying in tonight for the big family do. Maybe we can sight see at Longs?

I went to Armstrongs at the crack of dawn today and got roses for me and Zu. I also got a lot of cyclamen in 4 inch pots for $2 each.

George, I got the notice too today and emailed Armstrong and told them I didn't appreciate getting the notice 2 days after the sale began. When ever a sales person there sees my Armstrong points, they always say I have the most of any customer they have ever seen. Even when I went to Armstrongs in LA the gal said that. I would think they would take better care of their regular customers.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Well maybe everyone got their notice late and no one got a 2 day jump start.
So what are the rose prices and selections like? And what roses did you buy? I need details man! You going up to Zuzu's soon? I need to go too.
I went to Regan's today and got Eureka after falling in love with it at the Oakland Rose garden yesterday. I wanted another yellow one and this one has lovely peach shades in it too and I read some great reviews. Also got a mini tree of Happy Chappy. The selection has been drastically reduced by purchases that the city of Oakland did (for that rose garden) and a couple of other cities so the pickin's are small now and the roses are looking shabby.
At Long's I just bought some Orchid planting mix and fertilizer for my 3 cymbidians and a few sacks of some rose planting mix they have that sounded good for a few new bands I got. No plants for me there but I did get a few things at Ace, a couple of salvias, 3 different fuchsias and some great colors of pansies I had not seen elsewhere, I always love planting those in the fall.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

It's so neat to have a personal shopper. Kell called me this morning and recited the name of every rose she walked past at Armstrong, just in case I wanted any. I did, of course, so she got them for me.

Sue, was Eureka on sale? If so, and if you go back to Regan's, could you get one for me, please? I passed a nice big one up at Emerisa's end-of-season sale last year because it wasn't in bloom and I wasn't sure I wanted it. They planted it in their demonstration garden instead, and I kick myself every time I see it. It's absolutely gorgeous!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Well, I thought I replied last night, must have fallen asleep before hitting the submit key!
Sure, Zu, I'll pick up one for you.
Here's the thread that clinched it for me, posted by a friend from my daylily club:
http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/rosesgal/msg1021220523799.html?13
and HMF had some great comments on it.

Anything else? They had a couple more Rusty's, Strawberry Romance, Nicole Carole Miller, Heirloom, Pristine, Cabana, Delany Sisters (vicious looking thorns!), Pinnacle, Pretty Lady, Modern Magic left.

George, it's all your fault!

Here's one tray ( a .75 cents chrysanthemum, black mondo grass, a white Osteospermum, a couple of blue fescues, a silver tall germander on the upper right, a favorite salvia, a ground hugging orange rock rose, 2 different ajuga I already have but love so needed more, 'Rainbow' and 'Golden Glow' and a variety of tiny sedums and creeping thyme for a small pot bowl I am planning)

Tray 2: A six pack of white iceland poppies, a six pack of a variegated sedum I like spreading around, a couple of small mini lavenders, a small patio rose 'Peach Drift' I think it's called, that cool variegated leaf house plant, no tag, and a peach stemmed houseplant, tag says 'Chlorophytum amaniense 'Mandarine'.

No more posting sales!
Please! :-)

Sue, just remember it's not about what you spent, it's all about how much you SAVED! Think how much money you saved buying all these things at a discount (it doesn't matter that you probably wouldn't have bought them otherwise, that's the wrong way to look at these things!)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

LOL Liz, it's actually more about 'where the heck and I going to plant these?!!' I already have several pending trays.
Sad.

Oh a mess that shot is, last year this time it looked better, although still had that jumbled 'plant-collector-gone-nuts' look. I am behind in my cleanup and organizing, what else is new?!

Ah what a tangled web we weave!

Sorry for saving you so much money. I will keep my mouth shut next time. ;-}

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks a million, Sue. I have all the rest you mention except for Pinnacle. It looks nice on HMF. If it looks pretty to you, get me one. You know what I like.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I think you need that one too Zuzu so I will pick up both for you.

George, don't you dare not share, no hording these sales! I love $70 savings ;-)

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Sue. You're a peach.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

If all you have is several pending trays then you're doing great! I have my upstairs deck, downstairs deck, and an area on the ground next to the downstairs deck, as well as the sitting area in my front yard filled with plants that I mostly have no room for!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh boy...ditto....I'm afraid to count the pots. I will NOT let myself go to any sales until these are planted.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

oh Liz, post pictures so I can show DH that my addiction is mild compared to some! :-)

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

OK Sue, you asked for it!

OK, that's it! Hopefully your DH will see that I'm much, much worse than you!

To be fair though--some of the plants you see are supposed to live in the greenhouse, so they're not all waiting to be planted (although I'm not entirely sure there'll be room for all the greenhouse plants in the greenhouse either!)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yep, you got it bad, looks like a nursery. I have sections like that too. We are pathetic but it doesn't stop us now does it?!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

My problem is that I won't plant anything except in the fall, but I find plants I like all summer long, so they just keep piling up, and by the time fall gets here I have way more plants than I can fit in the garden. Last year I did OK because I had just moved here and I was redoing all the landscaping, basically starting from scratch, so I was able to find spots for most stuff, this year though is a different story! I do have one currently un-landscaped section that needs some things, and in my backyard I lost a bunch of stuff to gophers this year that needs to be replaced, and some holes left by plants that died in last winter's deep freeze, but there's no way I have room for all of those. I had figured all along if I ended up with some extras I could just give them away, but then that stupid apple moth landed in my neighborhood, so now I can't give things away except to my neighbors because they're in the same quarantine zone as me.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I still have several plants from your last give away before your move, somewhere here. I at least try to plant in a larger pot. I have done several trips to Nor-Cal pottery outlet in the past couple of years so they are scattered throughout the yard. If I can't get to planting some of the small 4" pots right away, I at least try to plant in a larger pot, alone or in a grouping.
Having Annie's Annuals nearby doesn't help either, my wish list is still too long on there.

I have a feeling I'll be going the container route too, a lot of the things I have are very pretty and I like them, so if they don't find homes in the garden I'll probably pot them up and use them to fill holes where I have larger trees and shrubs that haven't filled in yet (one of the disadvantages of starting the whole landscape from scratch and being too cheap to buy anything much bigger than a 1 gal pot is that I have areas of the garden that don't look very filled in yet!). Or if they get rid of the stupid moth, I'll host another plant giveaway and you can all come check out my new house and garden!

Okay, I too have to confess. Just like a little kid who's eyes are bigger than their stomach.

This probably doesn't really count. These are lilies waiting for next season.

And the beginnings of the spring bulbs that are coming out of storage. Notice my one little tomato plant - Juliet - that is still cranking out sweet little gems.
