November Bingo?

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Do we have a game for November yet?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Well Lin offered to be holder of the cards.
I don't think we have a host yet.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'd rather wait and host in December... my laptop died, and its replacement won't be here for another couple of weeks. I didn't want to start a game in the middle of the month and having people get close to Bingo over Thanksgiving when people might be busy, traveling, etc and not able to check their computer regularly.

However, how does this sound? I could post a list in a couple of weeks, we can get our cards in, and I'll start calls the day before Thanksgiving. I'll have my laptop by then (I hope!) so access won't be a problem. Those who are around can get the daily calls and enjoy chatting over the holiday. Those who are offline that weekend can just check in when they return -- there won't be 15 calls made until the following week (maybe Tuesday), so nobody has to worry that they got Bingo and missed it.

I'll start getting a list of 35 together and finding photos so I'll be ready to go... either in November or in December!

First prize will be a 1 year membership to AVSA (the African Violet Society of America). If the winner is already a member, we'll find another membership instead (Gessie Soc, NARGS, DG). My AVSA subscription just ran out, so I'll be renewing too. :-)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Critter. This sounds great and we are all so busy this month. You are great to do this for us! I would like to donate a #7 size box full of starter avs, streps, etc. (whatever small will fit in the box) A #7 is 8x12x12

I don't need to be at the top of the list in prizes. I just think it is fun to grow and grow so the shelves are always overflowing with goodies.

*****edited to say , 'May I give away the biggest loser prize?'

Gail, what a wonderful prize! Depending on who wins your box, shipping might be a little tricky... I ran into cold weather issues last year with shipping in late fall. But it's usually possible to find a window of opportunity with above-freezing forecasts at both ends.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Critter, I have saved all my winter packing material from last winter. Several vendors sent a lot in my boxes even though I live in south Texas. I think they can make it with all the insulation I have saved. Just the New York vendors sent me enough for two seasons of shipping. Brenda said she only lost one box last winter in Idaho and it was below 0 degrees on that day.

OK Now this is exciting! Looks like we have hosts for both Novembers and Decembers games..Thanks Kim and Critter! I need to check and see what I have available to donate for prizes... I know what you mean Gail about the insulated vender packing materials.I think I have enough here to last a few winters of shipping safely too...Wonderful stuff they use for shipping safely : )

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

OK, I am confused now *lol* Do you all want me to host in November or are you doing something in November Jill?
I will have the Victorian Lady doily as a November prize as she is already 1/2 done :)
This can go to the biggest loser.
Just let me know Jill, I am up for hosting November (which means I can't win Gails box *sniff, sniff*) but that's OK as I need to concentrate on the babies I'm struggling with right now *lol*
Kim

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I thought you..Kim were hosting novembers game and critter was hosting for decemeber?? oh shoot..I never read all of critters post..well I will sit here quietly until I find out for sure..lol

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Kim, since you'd just started playing with us, I wasn't sure if you'd rather play or host in November... I am fine with hosting either in November (first call the day before Thanksgiving), or in December. Either way, when I host, I'll put up an AVSA membership as a prize.

So Kim, if you'd like to host in November, I'll host in December. Either way works fine for me... I only offered for November because people seemed to be getting anxious, LOL.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim,
I like the way that Critter suggested. We are all so busy and Critter can start right before Thanksgiving and turn Nov and Dec into one big bingo.

You are new and shouldn't have to be hosting. Are we all in agreement with Critter to make one big bingo out of November and December. We really don't have the time for two games between now and January the 1st.????????

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

One big Nov/Dec Bingo works for me... but if somebody does want to host in December (I agree that new players like Kim should just get to play!), just let me know and I'll make a few bonus calls... I might go a few days into December depending on how the game goes, but there should still be enough time before Christmas for another game.

However, with everybody being so busy around the holidays, maybe we just need a chat thread for December and not a Bingo game with everybody worrying about whether or not they'll be online for the calls.

Hopefully nobody will go into withdrawal... :-)

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Forgot it was Thanksgiving there. You see we in Canada were very busy last month with Thanksgiving Holidays, etc...but I managed to watch my card! LOL

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Ummm... How do you play Bingo here? Been trying to figure it out by reading the last one I ran across and now this one. Still don't get it

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Diane, it is fun. Critter will list about 35 names of gesneriads. You choose 15 to play bingo with. Next, you turn your card into the cardholder (which it looks like will be plantladylin). Then Critter is the host and makes a call or two calls a day. You check your list and, if you have one called, you mark it off. The first person to get 15 calls wins first place but we always have at least 1-5 prizes and the biggest loser prize, too.

Please join us when we get our list from Critter. Right now we are just talking and chatting about it. Her list is not ready to choose from but she will give us a deadline to get our bingo list in to Lin.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Is it done through D-mail?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

yes mam! You turn your list in by dmail. Then the host will take the first few post areas to make them her own. She will keep the master call list and a place to make the calls on a daily basis with the dates beside them.

Hang in here for a few days and you will watch it unfold and please join in.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Count me in!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

We have soooooo much fun. I am not even sure I can play unless they do one big game in the middle of November and into the first part of December stopping way before Christmas, but people have a blast and win good prizes.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Okay, sounds like a plan Jill. That will give me another month to watch the pro's host. *lol*
I will have the Victorian Lady doily to donate for November though Jill so it can be the biggest loser prize or something.
I have about 8 more rows to do and then I will starch it and press it and post a picture.
Thank you for doing this :) I look forward to playing for my second time :) It's alot of fun to check the calls every day :)

Hope you had all had a great weekend!
Great weekend for the Sox!!

Kim

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OOhhh, that'll be a wonderful prize for this game... Thanks, Kim!!! We'll figure out the prize list order as we go along... If anyone else wants to donate a prize for this game, just let me know... I know we've got talented bakers and crafters (like Kim) among us, so I don't think we need to stick with a gessie-related prize theme for this game... after all, we'll be playing during the holiday season!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Kim,

I want that prize. They are so beautiful and I love dollies. I have always loved them from when my Grandma had them when I was little. I don't have many though. Babble on and on don't I?

I am in for another game.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Well thank you Makshi, that really makes my day :)
I love making them and sometimes can whip them up in no time and then other times it seems like I will never finish it *lol*
This was just a big TV weekend with the Red Sox and all so I was able to work on it quite a bit :)
I'll post a picture when she's complete.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Kim
That would be great.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You know I can't stand not doing what everyone else is doing, so I am playing regardless of when the game starts and ends...........

Makshi, I packed with the most tender loving care your begonia.......please say a little prayer that she is in one piece and pretty upon arrival. Have to tell you why there is a little Russian av stuck in there........she blooms double pink fabulous blooms. I had her in a box for a trade where a newcomer wanted her but she never gave me her address. So, I unwrapped the box and sent the plant to you. I told her i could always send her something else when I got her address.

I don't think she understands the site very well yet. (LOL) She was so cute.....she didn't know what that dmail meant at the top of the bar....

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I would like to play if we have a Novemeber please :-)
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

yeah for Susan!!!!!!! We are most defintely having a game. I think Critter is trying to decide when to start and end with maybe one big game for both November and December. We all want to stop waaay before Christmas holidays.

(Zone 1)

I will hold cards! It's so tempting to want to play but I have enough plants to keep me busy through these busy holidays .... so I will definitely hold cards for this game and wait to play again until after the first of the year!

It's going to be a fun game ... hope lots of y'all will play!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

You ladies are all JUST THE BESTEST!
I am SO happy to have found this forum :)
((((( HUGS )))))

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Lin, it's sweet of you to offer to hold cards, but I know you really wanted a chance to win Kim's doily! Maybe one of the Bingo winners from the past couple of games could offer to hold cards this time?

Although some people enjoy following along on the cards as we go, it's not necessary at all for the card holder to keep track of the game as its being played... just match up the calls when somebody calls Bingo to verify the win.

I'm proposing starting the game the day before Thanksgiving. That way, with 2 calls a day and maybe a bonus call, the earliest possibly Bingo wouldn' be until the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (so no need for people to watch cards for those who might be away for the holiday).

The late start also gives me a chance to get my new laptop (which won't ship for at least another week) set up. But it does mean that calls could go a few days into December... which seems to be OK, since so far nobody is jumping in to say they want to host in December.

(Zone 1)

Yeah Critter .... I really want one of Kim's Doilies but maybe she will offer one as a prize again in Spring! I really have so much going on this month that I don't have time to play but would love to hold cards! It was fun the last time I did it. And, I don't have to be watching as closely if I am not playing a card! As you said, all I will have to do is verify when folks holler Bingo!

I think most will be so busy in December with the Holidays and all, they won't have much time for Bingo. I know we will all be raring to start up again after all the holiday rush is over .... New Year, New Games!

Plano, TX

ok--now how do i play!! you've got me very interested

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Linda.......go back and read this thread. I think I explained to someone how to play plus the hostess will lead the way, so don't panic. You will get a good idea how it works from what I posted to diane'sjungle.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Scroll up to Gessiegail's post from last night... she wrote all about it! :-)

Plano, TX

ok--you caught me being impatient and scrolling down so fast i didn't notice the explanation!! sorry--i am in and i make handmade, pretty glycerine soaps that i will donate if that sounds like something you would like for a prize--is there a fee to enter? i am easily confused by tricky computer use but will have my husband help if i get stumped on this bingo game!!

(Zone 1)

LOL. I just explained on the other thread. Hope we don't confuse you Planolinda! It really is easy ... if I can do it, anyone can! We will help you along too if you have any questions during the game!

No fee to enter! This is a game of fun and friendship .... a lot of great chatter goes on during the games!

Plano, TX

well i am looking forward to it and will watch for when it is time for me to choose my 15 names and hope i get lucky!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Welcome, Linda! Generally, we stick with African violet or Gesnariad-related prizes, but I think with the upcoming holidays and all it would be fun to have a variety of different wonderful prizes. I'd be delighted if you'd like to donate some of your special handmade soaps as a prize... do you want the winner to pay for shipping, or will that be part of the prize?

I think what I might do is this... Instead of placing the prizes in a certain order, I'll just post a list of the donated prizes. The first Bingo winner gets first choice, the second person with a confirmed Bingo gets second choice, etc.

I'm not trying to create a popularity contest between the different prizes, but I'm thinking that different people will probably have different top picks. One person may not have space or time for the box of plantlets that might be another person's first choice. Somebody may already have an AVSA membership but be dying to win Kim's gorgeous doily.

It makes sense in my head, LOL... does it sound good to anyone else?

(Zone 1)

Great Idea Critter! I like that! I know one time when I won Bingo I really, really wanted that AVSA membership but I think that was a second place prize and I was third!

North Augusta, ON

Awesome idea Critter----works well for us international players as well!!
