OOh, Susybell! You closet party girl, you!
How to Spot an Avid Gardener
Sounds yummy Suzy, I'll take mine without the slug garnish!
What, no slime trail to help the salt stick better? ;)
(BLEAH!)
I just have a sodeee, thanks
Oh, yuck! And here I was regretting not being nearer. Sheesh.
Well, it WAS just Halloween, after all.
How about we stir the pitcher with one of those nice glass swizzle sticks that has a glass slug on the end for decoration instead?
this is getting worse.
worse? I guess I don't understand?
Susy..I am adventurous...I will give it a try, I am sure I have eaten or tasted worse in the garden... nothing better than grit crunching in you teeth and you are not sure how it got there....lol
or.....what it is/was...
And susybell you're the one who offered a margarita rim of slime trail???????!!!!!!! slug swizzle sticks and grit surprise.
'Nobody loves me, everybody hates me think I'll eat some worrrrrmmmmmrrrrmmms, long thin skinny ones, short fat juicy ones, itsy bitsy tinsy wheensy worms.'
Love it! LOL
Down goes the first one, down goes the second one, oh how they wiggle and squirmmmm, long slim slimy ones, short fat juicy ones, itsy bitsy, fuzzy wuzzy wormmmms!
Up comes the first one, up comes the second one, oh how they wiggle and squirmmmmm, long slim slimy ones, short fat juicy ones, itsy bitsy, fuzzy wuzzy wormmmmms!
Can you tell that I was camp counselor/rover when I was in High School? I have a whole songbook full of great ones! I can't carry a tune worth crap but I sure like to try! So Tilly while you are driving the bus to Laurie's I volunteer to lead the songs!
Hugs, Rachel
That definately made me laugh. Rachier - I think they may strap you to the luggage rack after the first 1000 miles!
Maybe my voice will sound better in the wind!
I am laughing so hard, I've had to rewrite this post FOUR times. You have made my day, Rachel!
I won't be able to get that song out of my head for the rest of the day! Thanks for staring it Laurie!
rofl! interesting bits of culture that travel across oceans, that's for sure...
All right, so you all scapegoated Katie; I still think it was a conspiracy. %^j
Well Katie now I feel a tiny bit less bad about flubbing up your trade this weekend. I was supposed to bring you a Cape Fuchsia and a peony, but I think I only ended up giving you a peony, and it was a too-small one also. Too many Katie(y)s for me! I'm sorry I'll have to make it up to you at the next one.
Somebody cut those two off, I think they've had one-too-many of the slug cocktails!
I have to leave for work soon, and that song will be I my head all day and the thought of the purple bus with Rach hanging on the luggage compartment singing away. And when we get to Lauries she will have us all commeted to the funny farm. Laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes.
Thanks All
Oh you all just wait, I will have everyone singing Old Lady Leary's Cow in rounds!
One dark night when the world was all in bed, old lady Leary took a lantern to the shed, and when the cow kicked it over, she winked her eye and said they'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!
Fire, fire, fire!
Water, water, water!
Save my child, save my child, save my child!
Jump lady jump!
Tilly,
Glad that we could help you out with a good laugh! Sounds like you have been needing one!
Rachie - I LOVE these. I grew up on little ditties - they are great in a pinch. So now I have the words, but don't know the melodies. What to do?
Tom - no problem - I have more than enough to do right now. And this just gives us a chance to get together later.
Susy - you are a woman after my own heart. Any excuse for a margarita. I like it!!
Thanks for the tip on the horsetails, Melissa. But what about the bracken fern? Any miracle cure for those?
You people are demented! Who sings little songs about children needing to be saved from a fire or throwing up worms? I never went to camp. Can you tell?
The cure for bracken ferns: enjoy them. Pull out the ones that interfere with your perennial border, and let the other ones go.
Hey, Tom, katie confessed all by herself! We had nothing whatever to do with it! She was anxious to take credit for that little 'slip of the tongue'!
Yes, Laurie, I have a heart of stone! Evil, evil evil! That's me! LOL!
OMG! I just sat here and read every single post at once! Now I feel better about going out without showering, or even combing my hair, and NOT cleaning my house! LOL You all are great! Misty
Welcome, Misty. So glad to hear that this is a national epidemic. :-)
Thanks! I am so glad that I found this forum, you all are hilarious! Funny, though, I just started gardening last year and I already fall under almost every single statement made here! DH gets tired of hearing me and my "garden" talk! I really thought I had a garden started, that is til I found DG. I am a newbie, so am still learning to navigate the site. I have met many wonderful people, and several who are willing to send me seeds/cuttings to help me along! Just glad to know that I am not "abnormal" with my gardening etiquette! Misty
I feel the same way. It's nice to talk to people who don't get bored with the topic of gardening. My SIL is an avid gardener and I keep trying to get her to join the site. She grew up in Cross Timbers, MO and her parents still live there.
Yes, I totally agree. I am now able to keep up with the posts on the ID thread, so had to start looking for something new. I am trying to get my sis to join as well. She used to have lots of plants, but they move so often she just gave up. I have gotten her started again, and she has the fever! I'm not sure where Cross Timbers is? I am about 120 miles West of St. Louis.
Looks like it's straight north of Springfield, about equidistant between I-70 and I-44. Pretty small town - on Highway 65. I think it's not too far from you??
Welcome Misty, and yes you have stumble on some of the greatest and craziest
forums, nothing like PNW, We are all special in are own way. If you read all the other treads in this forum, you'll get to know us, we love gardening, LOL and we are all happy to help. this is my first year with DG and I have a home here.
Rach, I have to say it did, I had a very good nite, thanks to all them worms, Ha Ha.
and thank you.
Ohhh, Tills, I thought we just found out that we are all normal - nuts. We'll have to try again. Now how many don't shower and never change their socks and put spiders in the plants at the supermarket? Hands up higher - all of us. Right, not crazy, normal.
Me, Me, Me, Always normal, I think, More worms anyone? LOL are we bad our what!!!!
I was voting the photos, Very hard, I have 3 to go, I stink as far as some of those go. great pics. to see.

You have not changed your time zone Your post said 2am does that mean its midnight there or 6 in the morning, and I can't get it right. Working these crazy hours I don't know what or where anymore. It will all work out in the wash someday soon, help is on the way. new manager coming just don't know how soon. and if they will stay longer than a few weeks like the last one did, such a big baby didn't have it in him didn't want to work to hard, he just wanted a cushy job and couldnt work with us who are females and older than him, and can run circles around him, just a dough boy trying to be a big man. Wanted to set in the office and give orders, well that don't happen in my trade. how do they call it " want the cake and eat it to" or something like that,.
I'm good, things will work it self out ( I hope)
I feel good I let it vent to you ( typing makes you think more ,even tho you may mis-spell or your grammar my not work as some has told me but I'm not the greatest typist in the world. and when typing grammar dosent come that easy, we all have done that.
And I want to thank all of you for helping me threw it.

katie59-we are about the same distance from Springfield as St. Louis. I will have to see if I can find where this town is.
tillysrat-thanks, I see that it is all a bunch of happy gardening nuts here! Me included. :)
Now to respond to the spiders-I HATE THE LITTLE BUGERS! Sorry, but I am not one that puts them back where they are safe. Does this mean I'm not an avid gardener? :(
I am well known for not taking a shower just so I can go out and play in the dirt- usually don't even where socks unless it is really cold, makes for an easier wash load :)
and less bleach!
Well, I want to thank everyone for making newbies feel welcome, but I do have to clean my house somewhat today since I have company coming!
Happy Gardening! Misty
And for those of us who compost - here is an avid gardener must have - (if we win the lottery!)
http://www.reotemp.com/compostshop/index.php?cPath=21
Can you imagine - they make one thermometer with a 72 inch reach - that is one big big pile of compost. Wow.
Wow those are cool, but spendy!
No problem, Misty. You don't have to like spiders. I just see them as my little sentries, protecting the house from the flying dangers. LOL. But then again, we don't have a lot that's aggressive or poisonous around here, so it's a little easier to be nice to them.
I always chose my garden clogs to work - even though sometimes I should be wearing boots because I'm deep in dirt or worse. For that reason I have a whole set of socks that are dirt-stained that go with the clogs. LOL.
I'll let my sister know that there's a fellow Missouri-ite on the thread. You can find Cross Timbers (or anywhere) pretty easily by going to www.googlemaps.com and typing in the city name and state. And then use the "-" and "+" signs on the left to zoom out and in. Or did you already know that? Sorry . . .
So, Mary, are you off today? At least you've got a day in the dry spell. Rain tomorrow and for awhile. It's November, so I guess it'll have to rain sometime. I've actually had to water my new residents. Crazy.
I always need more worms. I apologized to them as I worked over my compost pile - "No pain, no gain" I told them. I'm very interested in the worm tea (or worm soup, as I keep thinking it's called).
Laurie - how's the weather there? You'll have winter rains starting here pretty soon, won't you? Or is Sussex in a banana belt? I went to my settings and changed my time zone (I think I'm Greenwich mean minus 7 hours). It took awhile as I chose the trial and error method. Change your zone, make a post, check the time, adjust, go back and change your zone. I think I've got it now . . .
We have some really nasty spiders here! We were helping some people clean out their gardens and honey came across a black widow, and he never kills spiders, but he did this one!
OK, Cross Timbers it isn't too far from Richland then. I used to work for MOCA and the main office is there.
I wish I had bought the clogs when I came across them at Big Lots. They were on clearance for like 6 bucks, but the colors left were hideous. But, now I wish I had gotten them. I am bad for going out to "look" at my garden in my house shoes, then start working without even thinking! I have ruined several pairs of house shoes now! LOL
Oh ya, by the way, I took a shower 2 days in a row now! LOL
Yeah. We have Brown Recluse, which isn't too good. Fortunately they are few and far between. I'm the one who's likely to get bitten, though, because I don't generally look first before I dive in to a project.
I love the Sloggers premium clogs; they have a sole for padding and you can slip it out to clean it. Not the cheapest, but not too expensive. Mine have lasted pretty well.
Showering? What's wrong? Are you feeling okay?
EWWWWWWW Brown Recluse are nasty. I tend not to look when I "dig" in either, even though I HATE spiders!
I am gonna see if there is any on clearance somewhere so I can be set for Spring.
Nope, I tired as all get out, but I have a lady in Freeburg giving away Double Red Geraniums, so I had to shower before going to dig in someone else's dirt! I don't even know what they would cost, but I have to drive quite a ways to get them, hope she makes it worth my while!
