I can't find Sevidra. Can you send a link?

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Does that mean you're not interested in anything? Did you check to see if you're interested in anything from my tradelist? Not not, can I get some for postage?

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Huh?? Our posts must have just crossed.. Sevidra posted here on your thread about the choco mint.. So, I'm not sure about the link thing you're asking.. But if you're interested in seeds, I have lots of different flower, veggie, and herb seeds.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

oh duh!! Well I'm sure that Sevidra is a real flower of a gardener. Yeah that's what I meant. lol Ok, note to self: take your meds. roflol

AuntAnne,
I would love to have a couple of the blackberry vine cuttings for postage. I don't have anything to trade. The drought here has about done in my plants. We are in negotiations on a new place and I would love to have the vines to plant and really make the place seem like home. We love blackberries. My husband is a diabetic so we try to grow fruits for him. My mom made him several kinds of sugarfree jellies and jams and sent them to him from La. He has enjoyed them so much. Please let me know about the postage and thankyou so much.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Absolutely not a prob. I really am going to take a picture of the vines just to let everyone know how much of this I have and need to get rid of. Most of it is going to be torn out and round upped this winter. I will try to get in there again this weekend.

ROFLOL I knew I was a late bloomer! Looks like now's my chance!

I should breed a new flower and name it 'Sevidra', just for that. *ponder*

Yes, I had asked how much I should put into an envie for postage to snag a bunch of blackberries. My kids will flip when they find out how I'm collecting the things and going to plant them. I'm going to have a yard in the spring, as well as (at least) 20X20 ft of plot to play with (maybe as much as 20X60 or so). So... berries, yay!

these berries like most blackberries, spread, so be careful what you ask for.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank you, rec'd my box this morning. Hope you like the ginger.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I got it last night when I got home. I didn't get on line last night. So thank you.

To all: I need to know, do you think wrapping them in wet paper towel helped or made no difference? I usually send them as is, but thought I'd try the paper towel thing. What do you think?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

anne, i prefer any plant to come wrapped damp and sealed in plastic. i think mine will be fine but they were both very dry, although the roots on the damp wrapped was still moist but the trip was short getting to me. maybe this plant is tough but most plants would have a hard time without water for several days. just my two cents.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Mine looked kinda wilted, but I think they'll be fine, I'm keeping them in their pots in the shade for a few days. I think you did a good job of wrapping and packing.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

The top will die. No matter what we do. However, if you will plant them it will come back from the root.

I noticed just in trading in general.. Stuff shipped in damp paper towel faired better than stuff that's not in damp paper towel.. The plastic tends to keep things too wet. But plastic over damp paper towel seems to slow the paper towel evaporation.. Cuz just paper towel, plant's usually fine but paper towel arrives dry half the time..

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, with this I'm not sure that it would make a difference either way. I have shipped them bare root before and they come back from the root. They were already wilting before I could get them wrapped and we did it on the front porch immediately after digging. I sent one to somebody that was just one small stem on a long root. That stem will almost certainly die. That root, however, will likely put out several stems in a few weeks if planted. These things are almost indestructable. I took pics and will post this evening when I get home.

So no one thinks that they're going to deplete my blackberry patch by asking. lol

and last but not least this is an area where dbf cut with lawnmower. All 20 of the plants that I sent last Monday came from this area and I could dig up that many more with ease.

Now before anyone worries about spreading. The prob. here as I see it is that my Dad never did anything with them. He just planted them and left them to do whatever. When I tear down the out buildings I'm going to put up a "fence line" for them to run along. In this way I think that I can better manage the old growth and stemming new growth from where I don't want it.

LOL.. Anne. Guess you do have a lot.. Looks like it's trying to take over there.. :)

Let's just say that I keep my bedroom windows locked just in case. lol

Rockaway, NJ(Zone 6a)

ROFL I love berries. My friend's strawberries tried to do the same thing. We call them 'runaways', and I've started a Home for Runaway Plants to keep them going lol - he was just ripping them up by the roots and tossing them in with the yard waste (ooh, bet the landfill has berries in it LOL).

oh you know it. Some of those small ones were where the dbf had put some ones that he pulled out by hand. (in welding gloves, of course)

Anne, received my blackberries, thanks.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Just a quick note, I haven't gotten anything done in the last week. I have been down with a flu like thing that has just laid me low. I have to go to work tomorrow (only worked 1 and half days last week) if it kills me. I am getting better my voice is almost back (at least until tomorrow) and can get around, though weak after very little effort. I hope to get into the berry bed on Wed. and to P.O. same day. Please be patient.

Don't push yourself. You'll be sick a lot longer and the plants don't mean THAT much to any of us. Take care and feel better soon.

Rockaway, NJ(Zone 6a)

Yeah, people > plants. No rush, and get better!

Anne, we can wait. You're health is more important..
