My poor little Miata. Is there a heaven for cars?

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well Jill, no more trips to the nurserys in my little blue convertible for us. If you heard about the accident at the Giant intersection near where you live at about 12:45, well that was me :( A young guy from PA turned left in front of me and I T-boned him. I think he was racing against the left turn yellow arrow, or maybe he just didn't see me, he came so fast out of nowhere. Nothing I could do even if it wasn't raining. I'm relatively OK, just some whiplash, a little stiff and achy, and a slightly swollen tender nose along with some other bumps and bruises. The other guy wasn't wearing a seat belt and was taken to the hospital. He was driving a little KIA. I guess it was a good thing we both had small cars. It could've been really bad.

No official word yet, but we know the Miata is totalled. After 2 trees falling on it, and one accident on some black ice, there's no coming back from this. I was planning on giving it a wash and wax on Sunday, putting the hard top on and putting it away for the winter. Well, maybe we'll buy a new one next spring, but it won't be the same. This was my baby. My husband and I were talking about all the memories we had of the car. We were pratically eulogizing it. So I guess it's taking that long winding road to the sky. I thank heavens you got out relatively OK. Picturing your poor hubby when he heard about the accident.
Well, now more room in tha garage over winter- go buy something to overwinter!!! and spend January perusing car brochures.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, no!! Poor little Miata. Such a sweet and faithful car!

I'm SO relieved you're mostly all right, and despite his folly I hope the kid is OK too. SEATBELTS, people! Please, please, everybody wear your seatbelts.

I like Sally's idea that now you have some extra garage space... want a banana pup? ;-)

So glad you are ok! Rest up. You have a lot of gardening to do!

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

So sorry to hear about the Miata but glad you are okay. Wearing a seat belt makes a huge difference. I know exactly where that happened -- over near the Kingsbrook vet that Jill and I both go to -- or I should say, take our pets to.

Take it easy this weekend, sometimes the 2nd or 3rd day can be more painful with bruises. Sounds like a good weekend to go browse thru a nice big indoor greenhouse looking for winter entertainment :-))

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Miata,

SO sorry to hear about you accident!!!! Oh, my gosh!!! Saying good-bye to an old car (friend) is always so emotional....
Been through that myself and so has my daughter.

Glad you are OK, though! Will you be buying a new car? Another Miata??????? Too small! Too fancy!!! Forget it! You have had the "image" thing--now go for something more practical......

How about something like a Jeep Cherokee? Or a Subaru Outback? My fave! Think of all the space you will have to haul bigger plants in! Any good ole SUV will also be great--short of a pick up truck,,,,

Please keep us updated on how you are feeling. We all care for you--you know that!

Or a nice sensible Prius. Priusieblu -- it is has a nice ring to it!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

So does--Jeepieblu..........or Subarublu...........or Chevieblu......or Hunday-oneday-blu.....Isuzublu-zoo........

You get the idea.......Gita

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

I knew you guys would make me feel better. How 'bout Hummerblu? Sorry Gita, I've never been a pratical girl ;) I'm pretty sure I'll get another Miata. At least this didn't happen at the biggining of spring. And glad I hadn't got the new tires it needed yet. Or the new soft top to replace the one wearing out. Like Rick said last night, maybe this is the way it should have gone. Better to let it go like this than to let it keep breaking down. Well, tonight I'm distracting myself. Having friends for dinner and then playing cards. I know I should take it easy, but I'll do that tomorrow when it's still raining. Maybe catch up on my journal. Then Sunday, back in the garden!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Aww, heck, don't listen to them! Practical, schmactical... that's why the Miata wasn't your only vehicle! Maybe it's time to try a Harley again, see if you like the ride better from the front seat...

I don't know if you'll ever find another Miata you'd love as much as this one -- the memories are part of what made it so special! But something similar, hmmm... A friend of mine in HS had an Alpha Romeo that she helped rebuild (gift from her dad and his body shop partner on her 16th birthday)... it was a sweet ride! She described its color as "two crucial shades deeper than Hooker Red." LOL

But I sure do second the rest of the advice... rest up this weekend, take plenty of pain meds, let your body heal.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hummerblu! LOL You get this determined look when you're behind the wheel... I can just (almost) picture you in a powerhouse vehicle like a Hummer! But you'd need a real one, not the miniature powderpuff version...

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

How about "marine blue metallic" - get the turbo package - zero to sixty in 4.9 seconds, 171 mph... - perfect for those quick, last-minute runs to the nursery

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

oooOOHhh... Boxsterblu...

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

The boxster does come in a LOT more shades of blue than the website shows... but not as fast as their suv, if you can believe that

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Oh Bobbie, so sorry to hear about your Miata, but glad that you're okay! Agree with nutmeg, be careful, if you truly do have a whiplash injury it might end up being worse this weekend - had a similar accident years ago, felt nothing at the time of the accident but woke up the next morning and couldn't move my neck! It took me a week before I could freely move my head and suffered some severe headaches. Was working at an insurance claims office at the time and sure learned alot - like compensation for pain and suffering. Hope you feel better soon!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hmmmm......

Do we have the makings if another "blu" Thread here??????

Fallston, MD(Zone 6b)

just read about your poor miata. soooooooo sorrry!
i have an '86 mr2; her name is emmie and i love her so much. she was my 43rd birthday present and is still running like a dream.
i dread the thought of being without my baby.
my heartfelt condolences on your loss.
maryann

ps. she is a beautiful shade of metallic blue!

Glenview, IL

Ohhh...so sorry for the loss of your car! Lost my very first New PT Cruiser, not long ago. She was RC Cola Blue and a grand car for me...The first thing I thought of man I don't have a picture!

So glad you were not hurt badly, Thank Goodness for seatbelts!
You create new memories with whatever car you desire...remember though it's got to be roomy for plants and all the accesories..LOL
Judy

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Clay, I really like the boxter but I'm not sure I could swing even the most basic model without options, and I do like my options. I was looking at new Miatas about a year ago, but couldn't justify having two and wasn't giving mine up. See Gita, I am a little pratical. You can get a Miata with a power retractable hard top now! Oh yeah, anybody want to buy a hardtop? Maybe someone can make some garden art out of it, or maybe a cold frame, hang it upside down in a tree for a giant bird feeder :) I'm thinking I'll go green this time though. Tan leather interior, heated seats... When the Miata first came out it didn't even have a trunk light!

Maryann, did get your car new? I just turned 44 so I think I deserve a 45th present. Actually now I think about it, I got my Miata when I turned 30.

So sorry to you Judy for losing your new PT Cruiser. I hope you weren't hurt either.

I've taken it easy all day, thanks to everybodys advice. My neck was quite sore yesterday, but is much better today. But it was supposed to rain most of the day to make me feel less guilty about laying around ;) Well I'm glad it didn't so you all could get out there and get your gardens put to bed for the winter. Just heard the weather report for a hard freeze on Sunday night. Did you dig your bananas out Jill? I'll be out there tomorrow with you all, but I have most stuff done so won't overdo myself. Actually what hurts the most is my nose now. Can't wear my little reading glasses.

Thanks ya'll, you're the best!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

We were gone all day for a bar mitzvah, just got back, so no I didn't dig anything yet. They keep moving up those low temps! Last time I looked, it wasn't dropping to the 30's until Monday, now accuweather is calling for 36' tomorrow night and 31' Monday night... so tomorrow might just be a frost (or not), but Monday will be a freeze for sure.

Bobbie, I'm glad you're resting up, and I'm glad you don't have much left to try to do tomorrow... if things freeze, they freeze... your health is more important; we can replace the plants!

Fallston, MD(Zone 6b)

miata - yes, i bought her new. you definitely deserve a birthday new car! here is a pic of her from last year. now a good pic, but you can see what she looks like.

Yikes, Miatablu, I was at a dog show this weekend so just got the news. I'm glad that you were not seriously injured, but my condolences to your trusty steed.

May I suggest a GreatDaneABlu? You can find a nice selection of them here. Scroll down to see the blu's with wings or ribbons. You cannot go wrong with one of these. Trust me, I'm wright. http://www.rokadane.com/natl07/07sat20/

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Wow, Critter, that's a big temp' difference btwn us. My 10 day outlook calls for a low of 38 tonight, with the rest of the forecast being warmer than that.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Depending on which forecast I believe, it'll get down to 31 tonight... or maybe just 38... The bananas are dug up and in the basement, and all the other tender plants have been brought in. If there's frost in the morning, I'll be out there spraying down or harvesting from the tomatoes and peppers one more time... I just did not get to the veggie bed today! And boy, am I looking forward to a hot bubble bath!

Bobbie, I hope you continued to take it easy today. :-)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

In my micro-climate, I'm not expecting a frost here.

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

My little blue car is in heaven, but it's frosty there, too.

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

oops, forgot the picture

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

awww.... it looks so forlorn!

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Claypa, I believe that your little blu car is actually trapped here in this Frequency. If you like, I will try to communicate with it to try to get it to Go To The Light.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Girl, you ain't right.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh, but I am wright. I've watched the Ghost Whisperer. If she can do it, so can I.

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

I can not let go ... yet I know I must

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Claypa, you are not helping littleblucar by holding on so tightly. You must cut the chords so he/she/it/they can finally race along that highway to Heaven.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Okay, what did you borrow that Danger sign from? A riding mower? An automatic garage door opener? A washing machine?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Some humongous, automated, mechanical information storage and retrieval system I helped install at some government warehouse.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Did it ride well?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh sure, people love to ride it.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

and could it be that dangerouslittleblucar is actually my circa early 80's Honda Accord?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

please. '77 civic. McPherson strut suspension, power assisted steering and disc brakes, unibody, all way ahead of its time.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

You need to get her back on the road.
