"Round Robbin Thread #2"
Ok, this will be a double post as I was writing at the same time Joanne was on the first thread........
I did send the box to Teresa in NM, just double checked with the delivery confirmation info I have. Sorry for the confusion in mentioning AZ! It's all those hot places, they get mixed up in my mind. LOL
So here is my first picture, you didn't think I'd have just one did you?? :))
Everybody potted up from left to right front row. Then left to right back row.
Australis seedlings, cv Mathilde, macgillivrayi, fungii (the yellow is from the sun shining on it)
Lobbii, macrophylla, obscura seedling, Purple Hawaiian Pubicalyx
the h. serpens that I took is going to a friend so not pictured here

And just one more showing the potted up hoyas from the other side as they are now resting in the green house on the heat mat. Can you tell I'm happy with them all!!!!
And for anyone wondering about rooting in a zip loc bag I've gotta tell ya that there were plenty of roots popping out all over lots of the cuttings just from riding around in those zip loc bags with damp paper towels on the ends! Cool!!
Once again left to right, front to back
Purple Hawaiian Pubicalyx, Obscura seedling, Macrophylla,Lobbii
Fungii, macgillivrayi, cv Mathilde, australis seedlings

Nice choices, Brenda! This has been so much fun!!
Karen
Hi Everyone,
The box arrived today. I was out of town til 3:00 but managed to get home and go through the box and get it to the PO by 4:30. It's now on it's way to Gabi.
My picks were
H. neo-ebudica
Globulosa
H. heuschkeliana pink
aff.finlaysonii
I did take out the lacunosa, it looked really bad all the leaves were yellow and just falling off. I can try to root it but I think it is too late. I was concerned about a couple others in there as they were beginning to yellow also. One had some roots but I think it will make it to Gabi.
It's really nice having the labels all ready done and in order. It helps make things go a lot faster.
Thanks everyone this has been lots of fun.
I will try to post some pictures soon.
Teresa
I got the box today!! I got home from work at 5:30, so it was obviously too late to send it out tonight. I already went through it and did my exchanges, so it's all ready to go - it will be mailed out tomorrow at my lunch break.
Here's what I took:
H. carnosa 'Chelsea'
H. verticillata
H. memoria IML 107
H. meliflua
There were quite a few cuttings that wouldn't have made it if I would've kept them in the box (the leaves were yellowed and limp), and some that were just mush. I took out the following because they were doing pretty bad - imperialis, incurvula (it was complete mush), shepherdii, and diversifolia. Teresa was nice enough to give me a heads-up and send me a D-mail to let me know that these were the "sickly" hoyas that might not make it too much longer.
I put in a bunch of extras (I think 3 or 4 extras), and I was able to replace the incurvula/brevialata.
I will post pics when I can. Thanks everyone for taking such great care of the cuttings and for sending everything out so promptly.
Like I said, I will mail the box out tomorrow, and it will be going to Julia in SF.
Gabi :)

I thought I'd toss the RR map into this new thread. There have been a few new stops so I've updated the map for you guys and gals. These Hoyas are very well traveled. They've made it across the country from CA to NY and as far north and south as VT. and TX.

Thanks again for the updated map Mulletman. That is one well traveled box. I guess it also really helps to point out how on the next RR there should either be two boxes - one for east and west, or the box should travel geographically. Now the box is going back to San Francisco from NY when it was already in SF a couple of stops back! Despite the long distances traveled, this RR has functioned beautifully, and should be done again next year. It sure is a great way to increase your collection for the price of a little postage.
Doug
OOhh...did I hear the box is returning to San Francisco?! Excitement. Yes, I could have driven 5 minutes to Mark's house before the trip to New York, but hey, those hoyas are on a roll, and who am I to stop them. It's like Hoya Box, The Criss-Cross Tour 2007. We could all get T-shirts.
Julia
Ok...now I'm officially nervous. I sent the box out Tuesday morning - shouldn't it have gotten to SF by now? Or does it take longer since it was travelling from NY to Cali?
I sent a box from Idaho on Tuesday and it arrived in Maine on Thursday. So I'm saying it should have made it from NY to SF by today. Who knows with the PO though? Maybe Julia just hasn't had time to check in yet.
~Brenda
Oh gosh! I didn't insure the package or get a tracking number. All I have is the receipt from the PO. Was that really stupid of me?? I feel terrible. Hopefully it's either delayed or Julia hasn't had a chance to check in. Maybe I'm just getting myself all worried for nothing - I have a tendency to do that! Guys, please keep your fingers crossed that the package gets there by tomorrow - I'm worried about those cuttings sitting in a dark box for so long.
Thanks for listening to my neurosis,
Gabi
I'm betting that Julia just hasn't had the chance to check in:)
~~Think positive thoughts~~
Sorry guys! Indeed, I got the box yesterday - just didn't have the chance to check in until this morning. What a joy to open it and see so many hoyas that I'd been secretly pining for, but not able to afford. Yay for us! Thanks for this round robin, cheap, healthy thrills.
I'm going to take pictures and post them in a sec.
Julia
Here they are. There was a curtssii that was turning to mush and yellow that was once a very healthy plant, but the others looked pretty good.
They are:
- multiflora (alreadhy have but wanted another)
- incurvula
- DS 70
- anulata
- schneii
- pachyclada (I'm especially excited about this one!)
- crassipies (does anyone have a crassipes? I looked this up online and didn't see any references to it.)
I will refresh the cuttings and send it with my new additions to Jeri in Louisiana on Monday.

Julia...that cutting was from me. I got that plant labeled as such from Bob Smoley a long time ago when I visited his place in PA. It has not yet flowered for me.
Sounds like you scored big! I'm jealous of the pachyclada.
:) Kim
Sounds like you got some fun new hoyas! I too am jealous of the pachyclada, but then again, it seems like at every stop the box makes I "need" one or two or three... of the cuttings or plants kept :~).
I am so glad that everyone is having fun with this. I'm having a blast reading the post and watching the map! If at anytime it seems that there needs to be a fresh infusion of cuttings, please dmail me or post it here and we can add to the box. There have been so many kind offers for cuttings if needed, it just makes me smile at what a great group this is.
I haven't posted much because the new job is just kickin' my booty, but I am reading all the new threads and postings here on the hoya forum. Last night of graveyard for this week is tonight so may be tomorrow I can catch up on sleep and then read some more post without my eyes crossing :~)
Take care all and God bless. -joanne
Hi Kim, I searched again, and Chris Burton says on her website that she's rec'd h. diversifolia mislabled as crassipes.
The leaves do look similar to what you sent, has it flowered for you? Here are some photos:
http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20diversifolia%20min.htm
Joanne, I killed a pachy when I first started collecting hoyas about 5 years ago, so hopefully the wisdom I've gathered since then will help keep this one alive ...
best of luck on your new job!
Julia
Julia...it has not flowered for me yet. However, diversifolia has flowered this summer for the first time. It looks just like her picture. However, my diversifolia leaves look different to me than the crassipes. I guess time will tell.
:) Kim
This has been fun to watch. I check in everyday or so just to see where it is.
Betty
Yea!!! I'm next!!! I can't wait!!! This is better than Christmas!!! I know there is something in this box I can't live without!!! I'm next!!!
Jeri
Betty - I'm with you! I ran across this about a week ago. I'm not even involved in the trade and I watch to see what the next person gets and get excited right along with them and get worried when the box is a little late getting to another person. So much fun! Love when pics are posted most.
Julia,
So happy the box got to you! I was a worry wart and I was scared that it got lost!!
That pachyclada came from a profusely blooming mama pachy, so I hope you'll get blooms soon :)
I've been growing mine in a clay pot (which is a rarity for me - I grow most of my hoyas in plastic pots), and it seems to like very infrequent waterings. Good luck with it - I'm sure you'll do fine!
Gabi
Gabi, thanks for the advice on the pachy - I'm going to switch it to a clay pot and put the multiflora in the plastic one. Nice to know it has good genes! It's a very healthy start, so I'm optimistic.
I put all the cuttings in my mini greenhouse, so we'll see how they do rooting this late in the season - fingers crossed!
Julia
This is a kick watching that box bounce around the country. Jeri, let us know how many Hoyas are left in the box and what they are looking like!
I guess this Round Robin proves that the Hoya clan are a hearty bunch! From the inception of the Round Robin (when it was a mere twinkle in Jo Annes eyes), this has been an interesting experience! Despite the initial conflict and confusion, a couple "oh no, where is the box" scares, I beleive we have suceeded in sharing a box of plants, friendship and fun around the country.
Next time, I will volunteer to start the box for the east side if our trusty tracker, MM, will map out it's route. This has been so much fun that I am ready for another one!
Mel
Mel, I am ready for another also. I think its addicting.
Tami
Yes!! The joy and excitement that has followed that box around the country is a perfect way to both make friends and add to the addiction that we all seem to have. Thank you Joanne for starting this and I haven't even gotten my greedy little hands on that box yet. I have enjoyed everyone elses turns so much that each stop has been a thrill for me!!
Jeri
It is fun - it's great to get so many hoyas for the price of a stamp. And I love the anticipation of awaiting a parcel delivery...kinda like Christmas for plant-lovers.
I added a ton of new vines that are healthy, and took some of the less-than-healthy ones out. I have more than enough hoyas to share.
One question: when asked, what did people tell the Post Office folks was in the box? I don't know if it's legal to ship plant material across state lines, especially here in California, where the agricultural restrictions are very stringent. When asked, I always say "cookies," lol, although I haven't baked a cookie in years.
Julia
Wrong thread!!! Sorry!

Julia, I have said 'hobby supplies' when shipping to Canada. Here in Oregon I tell them it's plant cuttings. So far no problem.
I too am having so much fun with this RR. I nominate Mel to start the next one! Just make sure my name is on the list :~) -joanne
Hobby supplies - well, at least it's not a lie, tecnically. I mean, we are hobby growers!
My feeling exactly Julia :~)
Okay, Jeri....Ze Box is headed your way. Shipped out from San Francisco this morning....Enjoy!
I'm eagerly awaiting it's arival. I'll let yall know as soon as it arrives.
Jeri
I agree-- this is a wonderful fun experience. I love seeing where the box is going and what is in it. It has remained so well stocked with so many different hoyas. It is really hard to choose which ones to keep and send out. I like the idea of a large exchange and just have the box go geographically rather then an east or west one--or north or south. But then again, it is so much fun seeing it bounce around. With priority sending the box gets there in 2 days anyway. It wouldn't make a whole lot of difference in time unless it made several stops in the same state before going on its way. Actually, that might be an idea for the next one.
I know I want in on it-
Karen

Lookee!!! Lookee!!! The box arrived at my house just after lunch with Lamom!!! We got back and there it was!!! She helped me open it because I was too excited and then when we opened the lid. OMG!!!
I removed 5 cuttings from the box and replaced them with 5 cuttings. Packaged it back up and now it's winging it's way to Epiforums in New York!!!
Everything looked great except one cutting had a yellow leaf but the stem was still firm.
Here is the box after it was re-packed and ready to ship. I took it to the PO at 3:30PM so it's on it's way.
Thank you one and all for the experience of a life time!!!! I also can't wait to do this again.
I gotta go get dinner going so I'll post the other pictures tomorrow.
Jeri
Yay! Can't wait to see what you scooped up! Please do post pics.
Julia
Yea Jeri! whad'ya keep?!!
