That photo is lovely Brenda! What Episcia is that blooming?

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I have to just say that I am all giddy inside today :) I have arranged some awesome trades, and have purchased a couple awesome streps from Gail and I'm SO EXCITED I feel like I need someone to hold me down. I have such HIGH HOPES for this new strep thang! You ladies have inspired me so much and welcomed me with open arms. I feel so at home here :) Thank you for letting be a "part" of the gessie family (even though I still don't love AV's *lol*)

Feel like I'm on a "first date" *lol*

Yep, rainy cold day off and Kim has waaaay too much time on her hands. Hubby won't be home tonight. The only disappointing thing about today is........NO MAIL~! I LOVE my mail lady.......she always comes bearing gifts from friends :)

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Ditto Lin's question Brenda...

What is the blooming episcia in your photo???

(Zone 1)

:) Kim: You don't have to love or even like AV's to be a part of this big family! I have grown a few AV's here and there over the years but they haven't been my favorite plant. I wish I could grow Strep's like some of the ladies on here. They are just soooo Gorgeous! But, I am happy with whatever will grow and thrive for me, be it a pretty blooming plant or just something with interesting foliage! It's just so much fun trying different plants to see how they will do in the environment of my home. I learned long ago not to get too sad or disappointed if something doesn't make it! I figure if they wanna live here they will do well with a little help from me but if they aren't happy, dang it - they can just go someplace else to live! :)

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Amen sister Lin!!!

;o)

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

That's awesome Lin! I kind of feel like that too. I have a harder time I guess when one dies though. I still take it personally *lol* Only because it seems the ones that die are the ones I REALLY want to live *lol* I HOPE I can get streps to live but if I can't....it's OK too. I cherish the plants that I do have and that do grow nice for me. The only thing is, they don't bloom very often and it would be nice to have a plant that likes to bloom alot *lol* I LOVE trying new things so much too Lin and just the feeling of seeing something poke it's little head out of the soil is so exiting! Today it was my little Oxalis Iron Cross.......tomorrow...well who knows *lol*

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

That episcia in the picture is Teddy Bear. The yellow throat in the bloom doesn't show up very well but it's really pretty with the dark pink. This one came as a little stolon in my bingo box from Gail back at the end of June and I'm so happy with it all grown and blooming now!

Makshi I liked your idea with the cup and lid for a little greenhouse to start things in, great recycling too! I'm considerig the red colander cap, I wouldn't have to do my hair to take that picture right VA Rose? LOL

Rain that has to be the most utilized space I've ever seen on a plant stand :0) all those ziploc bags taking up every available inch! Good job! When you start your hoyas or other things in them do you just sprinkle a dab of water and then blow the bag up with the cutting in it....no soiless mix or perlite or anything?

Kim your rainy day at home with no DH coming in tonight is one of my most favorite kinds of days. You just feel free for some reason. And you can play all you want with plants or whatever and no one even knows! LOL

I really enjoyed all the coleus pictures, I have a friend that is crazy about coleus but I have never appreciated the vast variety of them before this year. Susan I really liked that small leafed one!!

Lin you are one busy woman! Yard work, sewing, baking, writing, growing, sharing, the list just goes on and on! :)))

My grandson went down for a nap so I better go use some of this quiet time to get some work done!

~Brenda

(Zone 1)

LOL Brenda ... I don't sew ... am not crafty at all! But these Christmas Stockings for the troops was for such a good cause, I had to donate some time. Now, it was sooo easy to sew up the stockings that I cut out of red felt. That is easy sewing. For all the decorations and everything I just use my hot glue gun! Yeah, I do yard work once a week for @ 9 months out of the year! My sister and her hubby who live in Fort Lauderdale area have to mow ALL YEAR! Stuff does not go dormant down that far South, ever! I love baking cookies from scratch and banana bread! Most of the time I am very idle ... have been thinking of taking up volunteer work again at some point.

........ I would trade almost everything, including most of my plants for one grandchild!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

The grandkids are priceless Lin!!! I say adopt a couple from friends!! I have a young friend of my daughter who has 5 kids, yes five, which includes a set of twins and they are all under 6!! And they call me grandma and I babysit for them often. When I'm done with a day with those kids I am so worn out I can barely move. LOL

I'll be posting bingo calls in a couple of hours, I'm packing all my trade boxes and trying to get out to the Post Office!

~Brenda

Here's a shot of the 5 of them from earlier this summer out in back of my house..

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Goodness Brenda, they are precious :)
Have fun packing today. I LOVE packing boxes :)
Packed 2 last night and have 1 to pack tonight :)

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Sorry the calls are so late today! When I went to ship my swaps and trades today the Round Robin Hoya box was there to be picked up and sorted through, cleaned up and re-mailed! Then I had to pot up the ones I choose! Now I'm late for a meeting but I'm determined to post the calls!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love that girl foliage on the trailer!!!!!!!!!!!!

And i can't believe I have a cup full of the sinningia defoliata............maybe it will look a little better as it grows (LOL)

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

You're not wearing your red collander, are you Brenda????

(Zone 1)

Well, that's 8 calls made and I only have one on my card so far ... very slow start for me in this game!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I only have 2 so far out of 8 so I am off to a slow start too.ooo I love that trailer and the sinn is gorgeous too.Every game I see all these new plants and my list of wants just keeps growing and growing but my house seems to keep shrinking and shrinking....

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I haven't met a trailer i didn't like yet.....................that is on my watch list along with streps and sinningias in Austin.......................I am addicted to trailers..............

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Nancy I am with you. I live in a smaaaalllll house and it seems to get smaller every day.

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Looks like more of you than just Va Rose are needing me to don that red colander....or maybe I need a special glove on my hand when I make the picks?? I could try blowing on my fingers like those dice rollers you see! :)))

~Brenda

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Didn't have either of these. I do like the #27 red flowers.

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Ok, blowing on my fingers and stirring the pot good!! Today's calls are....

#12 Petrocosmea rosettifolia
http://www.gesneriadsociety.org/conv2006/plants/bigpics/2006Class23.htm

#21 Sinningia Apricot Bouquet
http://www.gesneriadsociety.org/conv2006/plants/bigpics/2006Class5.htm

True beauties once again!

~Brenda

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Excellent Calls Today Brenda! Both are VERY beautiful and WAAAAY over my head to grow *lol*

(Zone 1)

I still only have 1 on my card .... gotta start getting a few soon!! Man, I love the looks of both of those plants .... have one Petrocosmea and am really liking them! And, next spring I want to get a couple more and sinningia's too .... adding to my wish list now.

Well, I'm off to shower. Been out doing yard work all day and I am sooooo dirty and tired!!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm with ya Lin!
I am definitely in the running for the biggest loser prize so far!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

You know, baby streps.....who would mind being a loser? I know I wouldn't mind :) *lol*

Hi all! Wow at the good stuff I've missed! We ran like crazy people yesterday with a couple unexpected things that came up and today I packed and mailed 6 of the 9 boxes I was supposed to mail yesterday! Whew! I'm worn out! If you're expecting a box from me, look for a dmail later today. ;o)

I love the pictures you're linking to, Brenda!! Your main list was like a copy of my wishlist! LOL Shiawassee Trail is one I've wanted for ages. Had leaves of it once, but they rotted. :o( I've got Pet. rosettifolia, not blooming yet, but it's beautiful anyway. I'd post a picture but I left my camera in my husband's truck yesterday and boy am I lost without it today! LOL

Whatever you're wearing on your head, Brenda...leave it on, it's working!! ;o)

OK I'm off to read what I've missed, dmail a few people, pack the rest of the boxes, fix supper and do laundry. Is it the weekend yet???

Oh, I forgot... Since they're calling for mid 40's tonight, and it's always a few degrees cooler here than what they forecast, I decided today was the day to bring in the houseplants...all 52 of them. Now, where am I supposed to put all these???? *sigh*

North Augusta, ON

I just went through that myself...I have them in the closet, the bathroom, on all the tables......until they find permanent homes.......

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I've never tried putting my houseplants outside, always afraid of the freak freeze, but next year I am going to do it with my stretocarpella as I have never seen a bloom on it! There is a white on and a blue one potted together and it is nearly a year old now. I know it's me and not giving it the right conditions. So next summer out it goes and if it blooms great and if it doesn't well, no loss!! :0)

I am thinking of doing one last small order from Robs (I "need" to try a couple of those Petrocosmea's, they like it cool so perfect for my bedroom this winter!) before it gets any colder and I want to find Lucy the dog and get a free gift. But I can not find that blasted dog anywhere!! I've looked and looked! Can any of you who have found her tell me how you did it, What does she look like, do they sneak her in to some odd spot?? Do they change the page everyday that she is on? I need help! LOL

I have spent the last two days popping in quickly to the bingo board and a couple of others spots but I need to go read new threads and get caught up with you all :)) Maybe tomorrow I'll get some time now that I have all my shipping done!

~Brenda

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Well I tried Brennan's today and Lyndon Lyon for the first time.
I've tried Rob's but for hoyas and well....couldn't bring myself to order from them this time. I hear he's real good for violets but I'm too new to streps to try him after my experience w/the hoyas *lol*

Got a couple of other goodies too. I wouldn't dare try those Pet things yet but I sure enjoyed looking at ALL the pictures (all day at work *lol*) on EVERYONE's sites *lol*

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm so bad that I even called both greenhouses to be sure they were going to have what I ordered in stock as I really didn't want substitutions. One of the things there is only 1 of so they have to see if someone ordered it before me and if so I DID give them a substitution. *lol*

They should be here next Friday by the latest I was told :)

I have group one of the houseplants soaking in their dishsoap bath. It will be time for group two shortly. I never really know what to do with them when I bring them in, as far as debugging goes. I meant to get flea shampoo like Snowrose suggested, but was always going to get it "next time" and now it's too late for next time.

The problem with putting them somewhere temporary, threegardeners, is I need to have these situated so that my husband doesn't notice just how many there are by the time he gets home!! Right now, nobody could possibly cook, take a shower, or really even use the bathroom for all the plants! LOL And what exactly does one do with a pothos that is longer than they are tall?? I've tried to give away cuttings, but everybody already has it! LOL At least it can take low light, so that will make it a little easier to find a spot for it...

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

ok it sounds like i need the websites for these 2 gh lol

That's great, Kim!! I can't wait to see pictures of what all you got! :o) Great birthday present, isn't it? ;o)

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

http://www.brennansorchids.com/

Have fun and make sure you have a pen and paper ready *lol*

It was such a GREAT day :)

Kim

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

5 calls for me so far.

(Zone 1)

Wow! Ccino42 - I still only have 1 ... hoping my luck picks up soon! I wonder if anyone has all of the calls made so far?

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I have 6 so far (thinking it's beginners luck) and hoping it continues *lol*

(Zone 1)

Way to Go Kim!! There are 5 prizes up for grabs so you might win one! It's so much fun playing Plant Bingo! There was a House Plant Bingo earlier this year too ... but I've never seen it done again on that forum - we have a game almost every month here in Gessie Land!!

The real fun comes when it gets right down to the last few calls and everyone is needing the same ones! LOL. Then it's all eyes glued to the screen waiting for that last one needed .... and to see who has the fastest fingers to type that word: BINGO
