Jan - that is such a sweet story. Your DH sounds like wonderful and romantic person. bebop - your calendula is beautiful and I love the bright color. Eleanor
Show us your bloomers!!
I have loved all these photos and the great stories that go with them. You guys really know how to keep things growing well.
That's gorgeous!! I just love the pink hues.
I took a break from my latest foolishness, a waterfall and an endless stream that I was inspired to do from two people on DG (Songsofjoy and Shihtzumom) and took a few pictures of some plants still in bloom. I am amazed how green and mild we are this fall. Belated b-day wishes to Dave47. Just a couple of days ago I was thinking about some good common advice he once gave me about renting a gas garden tiller, as on the spur of the moment, I decided to dig a new bed with a shovel and found myself was flailing about and exhausted, but done. Never again! I did follow his advice and rented one last spring and will do so again this year. Promise. Grampapa, I loved seeing the roses from your new garden. Patti
Patti, debilu, Kassia, Al, Gram & bebop: Nice pics!
Kassia, your dahlia looks a lot like mine but less blurry.
I think I learned that if the shot is blurry when I look through the camera, it won't look better after I snap the shot!
Drinking desn't help either Dave.
Looks good Jan - plenty of holes there yet to fill. Weeds are great for filling them - low maintenance too.
Nice 'dula bebop. I have mine in pots so they aren't reseeders.
Hi Patti, haven't seen you in a while.
That's funny Allison - 'roos are good boxers TV has me to believe.

Patti - such beautiful colors - makes a nice collage! Onewish - nice shot of the "kangaroo"! Kids are funny - one of my neighbor's kids wanted to know where my racoon was one day, referring to my Himalayan cat!! I have a late bloom - Henry. I just planted it this year and the 3 earlier blooms did not amount to much, but this one blossom makes up for it. Eleanor
Jan - your rose garden is stunning! And I loved the romantic story behind it! I also like your dahlias and your pond.....wish I had a pond.....someday!
Bebop - that calendula is striking!! love the color!
Patti - your collage is lovely. I hope you don't really give up on your waterfall and stream! I want to do that too. I have just the place, but not the initiative just yet. We have a natural depression from an old cold cellar just to the left of our outdoor fireplace that my DH built. There are some large granite rocks there that would make a perfect waterfall.........maybe in the future!!
Allison - I can see the kangaroo perception with those ears! LOL
Only a few blooms remain......here's the darkened autumn joy.....
I like the Azalea Al. Maybe we should start a b'day thread for Louise's shed?
Al - you made me shed a tear. Where are the candles?
Didn't want to embarrass the shed with that many- or start a fire.
Good point Smokey.
super pics. I'm lovin' the calendula. I might have to look into having that in my yard as well. I was saying to my friend last night, that there are so many plants and veggies that I want to grow, but I don't have enough full sun spots. The oak trees in the neighborhood as so huge that block alot of the sun I could have. Unfortunately, now that the sun is lower in the sky, I have even fewer.
Nice to see you, Patti. do you have any pics of your waterfall over on the water features forum yet? (I want one, I want one!!) Lots of nice color in your garden still :)
bebop, your Conrad is lovely. I'm a lover of the pink roses! the ageratum is sweet, too. I've always had blue.
Louise, sorry I missed your shed's b'day (gotta humor these guys...they give good, free advice, plus they keep things going when it gets slow around here. but don't tell'em I said so)
Dave, I find that my pics come out better if I remember to change my glasses and not wear the ones for the computer when I go outside LOL
Al, that dahlia is a relative of this one that you sent me? yours is nice, but I like mine better (cough, hmm). mine has little peachy edges.
amazing Clematis Jan. No, I have no idea on the species of any insect. I just think they are cool. I'm not sure what it is, but I am amazed at the wings. Like little stained glass windows.
tell me about. I think my azaelea have buds! I'm hoping they are leaf buds
grampapa, I failed to mention that the river bed is dug, but not yet lined or laid with the rocks. Thus no water yet. A long way from done. I finished moving all the plants that were in the way and doing the rest of the digging yesterday. I must say that digging a five foot hole for the pump housing was quite an accomplishment for this old gal. But I gotter-done! It may need to be slightly wider, but I will know when I pick up all the equipment on Thursday. Can't wait.
The rocks also have been moved from an 8 foot long low wall on the far side of the house that we built about 20 years ago that our dogs kept trying to dig under for, who knows what, so I decided that it had to go. I figured the biggest expense of this folly would be the stone, so by re-purposing those rocks it would be more affordable. The rock moving nearly became tragic as my son( 26) who was helping his father thread the truck through the pine trees got mushed between the tail gate and a pine. Off to the hospital with what we feared was a broken leg, but thankfully only a crush injury. He is on crutches, but doing fine. Dh feels awful! I have been taking pictures. Here is one to give you an idea of what I am doing. It will be about 40 feet long and have 6 level changes before disappearing and being recirculated back to the top which is out of the picture.
I planted dahlia's from the coop that Shihtzumom ran. A first for me except for 2 that arrived as bonus plants in Aug of 2006 that bloomed in the fall in my greenhouse despite anything that I did. I must say that I love having them this fall. Not such a display as Pirl's, but I am learning.
I saw a stunning display in a private garden in Prout's Neck Maine last weekend that was divine. A huge mass of all short deep red ones lining a Japanese garden with a dark red painted structure. There must have been a hundred or more plants. I am not so good at the staking thing, so I may go short next year too. I will replant the tall ones I have ,but in the veggie patch so the stakes don't annoy me.
Anitabryk2, great insect pictures. I have yet to get a good dragon fly picture either, ever! Patti
