We need a list of botanical names (particularly spellings)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Is there any chance of ever having a place on DG where we could look up how to spell these names?

I can get the first few letters in my memory but it would be so wonderful if i didn't have to go drag out a book each time........so I could look up a plant in plant files.

For example.........for lipstick plant i can rememeber Aesc and I can't remember how to spell the rest of it.............therefore, many of us are limited in using the plantfiles.

Because it is so difficult for me to remember the botanical names, it is easier for me to use books at home to look up plants...............a very time consuming task........

Gail, if you know the common name of the plant you want, all you have to do is put that in the common name field here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?Search=Click+here+to+search+for+plants I have always found this feature helpful. :o)

Gail: That sure would be a nice feature to have ... an alphabetical index of botanical names, but I think it would be an enormous undertaking and would require a lot of space. I usually do as mgh said and go to PF and put in the common name .... when you get to the plant it gives the botanical family name and genus.

We have exactly that.
