Al, Did you used to be Alice?
Curious to know what your personal schedules are like
Maybe I was Mel.
Then, Eat my grits!!
I think it was kiss, but we'll keep this PG for the kids.
Silly me.
Al, Kiss my grits!
Not a fan of grits myself. we have home fries in these parts. Much better. But "Kiss my home fries!" doesn't cut it.
.
I like grits!
I have been lurking (and thoroughly enjoying this thread), but if you're going to bring FOOD into the discussion, I have to chip in. I think grits are yummy - particularly with some butter and cheese mixed in! Great, now I'm really looking forward to my Carnation Instant Breakfast as I head off to work! :(
grits aren't bad with salt, pepper and butter, home fries are good with salt, pepper and butter, fried with nice crispy edges
oooo...and gravy......the runny northern stuff....
I don't even like the sound of grits! It's like eating something called clumps. Mmm - how inviting. They should rename it and I might try it.
True Grit(s)?
Sandpaper rating??
I may be the only southerner alive who doesn't like grits.........never did!!! If I'm going to get the calories from carbs, I won't waste 'em on grits!!! LOL
I am so with that!!!
Where are you from pre-NH Donnie? How long have you been a NEsterner? Do you like it?

Amy - I was born and raised (as southerners say) in south Florida, lived in NC for 10 years and then landed in New England 27 years ago. I have spent more of my life up here than anywhere else (by choice) and would never be able to leave it for long. As a child, we spent the summers in the NC mountains, so I learned to love the hills and woods and trees very early. Fla. is great in the winter because we love to walk and be outside all year and the cold really bothers me, so we spend the winter there now that we are no longer career-bound.
NC is beautiful, though i only visited once. i lived an hour west of Knoxville TN for a time. i think FL would be a little too much heat for me - esp in the summer - my best friend lived in New Orleans for several years, and i think it is similar climate, minus the ocean.
i just want to go back to TN - or even STL. Kentucky's nice too...
I loved the Asheville area.
I love NC too. My Aunt lived just outside of Ashville and I was a camp counselor in the summer during college near there. Beautiful state! We will go very close to Knoxville on our way down this week. We will stay in Sweetwater and meet one of my DH's high school friends for dinner that night. I haven't seen much of TN, but what I've seen is very nice. One of my favorite places on earth is the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. I may be wrong, but I believe it has more species of wildflowers than anywhere on this continent.
When I was about 13, we flew to Florida for March break and drove back with Gramma and Grandpa...they had been there all winter...I really wish I had been older to remember it more......I do remember beautiful scenery though, and my first experience with southern gravy.....and Dad driving all day and dying for a cold beer, just to land in a dry county...lol
I've been lucky, and traveled a lot. So many beautiful places. Both in the east and the west.
ThreeG - what a neat memory. 13 traveling with Gramma and Grandpa in Fla. at spring break.........interesting situation!! LOL
wow- the county i lived in in TN was dry. well, you could buy beer, but that is all. we'd drive 30 minutes to Harriman, this little nowhere town with an amazing liquor store.
but on a gardening forum, it is only right to point out that i'd never been in a town with more common weed.
; )
Good one, Amy! LOL
Biltmore was nice but they really rip you off.
Friends paid ;)~
They're still paying.
I like my grits with sunny side up eggs. Al, I'll remember to skip Indiana when I go tavelling.
I still have the jefferson airplane song in my head. Darn earworms!!
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small
When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
"Feed your head"
They left that one off the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack I think. 'We Built this City' could be fatal if that one gets in you.
thanks Al
South Bend, Indiana is beautiful in the fall.
I have walked on Notre Dame's campus, onto the football field, and seen 'Touchdown Jesus'!
I've been very lucky toi have actually lived in a few different places, too. I think my very favorite will always be my New Hampshire home, but Yuma, Arizona comes in at a very close second.
The deep South (Georgia and Alabama) were just a bit too humid for me. I remember sitting in a cold bath tub during most of the summer in Georgia ~ LOL!!
Germany is also a place I lived for almost three years.
Have you guessed yet? Yep! I was an Army wife.
It always struck me as funny that Ohio University Library named their online catalog Alice. There's even a picture of her on the home page. "Go ask Alice".
So did Columbia.
"Go Ask Alice" cute! I wonder if today's students understand the pun :-)
I see ads for the Biltmore....what's to much?
Bite your tongue! You're not old until you're dead, and we're not dead yet!
