Curious to know what your personal schedules are like

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I love the old recording by Johnny Standlee about Little Bo Peep and her lamb and the two parts that still make me laugh are:

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep and doesn't know where to find them -
well of course she doesn't know where to find them or they wouldn't be lost!!!!!!!!

......wagging their tales behind them -
did we think they'd wag them in front????

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

So much anger brewing all these years Pirl.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

So much laughter, Al. I found it again on the web and it still makes me laugh.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Elvis sighting....he's a janitor at local concert hall.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Oh no, that's one of the imitation Elvis's. He's been helping me pull ivy this morning - what a nice guy!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

What a fun thread this is! Like the Beatles! Still remember sitting in the high school cafeteria eating lunch and checking out the guys to "Can't Buy Me Love".....

My schedule has changed RADICALLY since retiring........the pressure was building back up as I was reading some of the cram-packed schedules of various posts...

Pre-retirement - NO LIFE (you can fill in the blanks....) up at 5:00; at desk by 7:00...oh, I'm feeling my blood pressure rise........fast forward........

Now, I'm up around 6:30;
quiet cup of coffee
walk down along the lake (in Fla. walk along the river)
have breakfast
work in the garden or putter doing something
11:00 - break on the front porch with my DH
back to doing something like bills, etc.
1:00 - make lunch/eat lunch on porch
2ish - check out DG or do quiet things or take older friends out
6:00 - make dinner/eat dinner
6:30 - evening news and DG (multi-tasking)
8:30 or 9:00 - get in bed and read until sleepy unless good game on tv
This is the typical "no agenda" day; many days have activities away from home and none of these things are then the norm.......retirement's awesome! LOL

Victor - you just can't stop that lawyer bashing, can you?????..........I understand it given that you reside in the pen, but my goodness.....get over it! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Geez, Louise! I went halfway back up the thread and didn't see anything. Isn't there a statute of limitations or something. I've read other, much meaner, jabs at lawyers on DG!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I was liking your schedule except for the bills. Maybe I won't retire.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Donnie - maybe I'll really retire some day!! Eleanor

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Donnie, Are you a lawyer?
I think they get a bad rap. I have met a lot of dedicated lawyers that are very generous with their time given to good causes. (I believe that's referred to as Sonny Bono).
Now, Engineers are very weird.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Sort of like the professor on Gilligan's Island, are you making nuclear reactors out of tinfoil and coconut shells?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, I wish all of you would join me in early retirement!!! If you don't mind a little bit of marginal poverty, it's really great!!! LOL I'm just kidding about the poverty, but it is a pretty hefty reduction in spending money!! My DH took planned regular retirement, and I'm 6 years younger, so I had a tough decision to leave a job I loved, but which was consuming my life with pressure and volume (but great people I worked with), and I decided to say "what the heck, life's too short," so I retired to spend quality time with my DH and our kids and grandkids. You might think I was pretty burnt out from the way I keep things so simple now........and you'd be right. LOL

Dear Victor, please go back up to your post # 4059334........not that I don't join you in your jabs as to many lawyers, but I agree with Dave that there are so many lawyers who don't deserve the bum rap......especially those in public service. The bad ones spoil the barrel for the good ones.

Dave - Yes.....gulp.....litigation/public service....I like to think one of the good ones....

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

I hesitated to reply to this one but DonnieBrook, you gave me some courage. The truth is that I don't have a schedule. After 30 years on a treadmill-- work, child raising, and squeezing everything else in on the weekend, DH and I retired 4 months ago. I also took early retirement. The income is slashed, but we've been poor before. I loved my work in the Cornell library system but it was taking all my energy. We decided to do this while we still had all our marbles (or at least most of them). Now every day is an adventure that takes its own shape. I spend most of it gardening or wandering the woods. But I also read, cook, and, occasionally, clean the house. Now we are in wood season and are spending a lot of time cutting and splitting. If you can possibly swing it, I highly recommend this!!!

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

I almost forgot this one. I have rekindled an old hobby and it really has my creative juices flowing: photography.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

You take photos?
I have a real knack for excting pics if I must say.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Bebop - we are in such a similar place........My days and interests are just like yours........except for the house cleaning, that is!! LOL Your photography skill is so evident........you have true talent! As does Al....obviously! I really like Al's symmetry and flamboyant "devil may care" themes.........Al - do you have any "one man shows" scheduled that we can crash??? LOL

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Gardening, photography and allegedly golf are supposed to be hobbies you can do your whole life.

I actually have a slideshow on Andy's site of similar pics.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Al - that is an awesome slideshow!! What are the gold, white & black circles? Very very interesting photographs!! Great talent!!

I agree that gardening, photography and golf are life-long hobbies. I enjoy all of them, but don't have a whole lot of talent in any of them. But of course, as you can see on my posts......that doesn't stop me!!!!! LOL

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks, those are tiles on a late 20's building here.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice show Al. I like shooting patterns too. Would be nice if I could get my laptop fixed and start posting photos again! Just had three more requests via D-mail to use my photos.

I would replace exercising for golf in that list and add maybe one or two more.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Hey Ai - I take pictures like that, too!

Nice. I'm into the stones.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I took early retirement too, to stay home and take care of my grands. Now, I will have four of them here to watch over during the daylight hours. Thankfully, two of them are fully housebroken, as they are six and fifteen years old! ☺

I love not going to work every day and I don't miss the stress of earning a 'real' paycheck. Sometimes I miss the paycheck, but the benefits here are MARVELOUS!! i wouldn't change this for the world!!

And, housework only takes me a couple of hours a day anyway, and that includes the cooking for supper.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh, and I have more time to actually TAKE photos.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

That rocks Memory. You did say you were an aggregate didn't you?

Well I am fortunate in my career - Work like the dickens for 9 months - but I am off from mid-May until the end of August.

Of course, DG keeps distracting me from Aug until May (I am supposed to be marking right now :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't miss the grind - especially the wonderful commute everyday to NYC. Being home has its challenges, mostly cerebral and psychological, but I'm getting used to it.

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

Nice rocks, guys. This stone wall is deep in the woods and must be 150 years old.

Little Lime Away and wire brush - it could be as good as new.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Too much, Al!!

Cat and Bebop.....great shots! I love the old stone walls around here. They have a beauty all their own! The first settler at our farm built the most amazing and beautiful stone well here in 1763. The cylindrical stone walls are perfectly round, beautifully crafted and 20 feet deep. It is such a work of art. We don't use it for water anymore, but I love to take off the cap and look down it. It is right at our back door, and we built our brick patio around it. If I can take a shot of the well that will be light enough to show the craft of the stones, I'll post it.

My DH and I have found many old cellar holes back in our woods. He and a neighbor have mapped the cellar holes in this area, and we have researched and labeled the name of each of the first settlers that lived in those homes in the mid-1700s that are now just cellar holes. Like Bebop, I love walking in the woods and exploring the old dumps from these early homes. Our stone wall garden is made up of very old daylilies and gentium that were liberated (only one of each) from the dense shade at a couple of these spots. From one plant, we now have a large number of DLs.

Having heard a pack of about 6 coyotes so close to our house (one day this week) making a horrible cacophony of noise before killing something, I'm not as comfortable in the woods at the moment. I just can't shake off that horrible moment of silence when they made the kill. I love nature, but not that part of it.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

This is a stone wall that is a piece of art at Storm King. Definitely my favourite art there - looks like something out of an enchanted forest in a fairy tale. It's really long, and actually disappears under a lake, and comes out the other side.
What i like about this little bend is that in the arch in the tree is this perfect little mushroom. I expected a fairy or gnome or Alice to come along any second!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ingest the right mushroom and Alice will be along.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

sounds good, but with my luck, it'd be the wrong one.

North Augusta, ON

Now I've got that song stuck in my head...
"one pill makes you larger
and one pill makes you small
and the ones that Mother gives you
don't do anything at all"

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That is a nice shot by the way - forgot to say that. I like stone walls also. There are many in Harriman Park, where I hike.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

'Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall'...

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Thanks!
Have you been to Storm King, Victor? i think it's near West Point. I'm a little vague on distances in New York. On our last weekend of freedom, before classes started, Eric and i took a art day-trip and went to Storm King and Dia:Beacon. (I wanted to go to Austerlitz, then found out it's in the opposite direction...) The stone wall was definitely the most appealing thing there for me, though the Lichtenstein mermaid was pretty neat also!

No - it's on my list of places to visit though.

Alice doesn't live here anymore.
