"EYES"

Cordova, MD

Oh "eyes" they're not "senior" moments.... you have to remember that you have a lot of stuff in your brain and sometimes it gets overloaded- like a computer- sort of....
or possibly "overdrive" but never "senior moment"... you can't be old!!!
Or maybe it's "halfhiemers"... but NEVER "Senior Moments"

you know the saying....
" I don't wannna to grow, I don't wannna to grow up...
I'll always be a kid..." fro Peter Pan....
oh,,.. what was I saying???? I can;t rmember!!!! he,he...

Hi Eyes,
I sure can identify! I've been losing things lately - can't fo the life of me find them or figure out what I did with them. Ugghhh....

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

You know JJS, you're half right there, and I'm not saying which half 'cause I'm not sure....it's kinda like I tell the young folks. I've already forgotten half of what they have yet to learn....hee, hee, *S*.

I just say the ole brain is doing an automated clean up of files and now I need to defrag it and replace missing data! Just like my computer really doesn't need all those old unused files anymore niethier does my brain. But I hate it when the brain crashes and all stored data is lost... like now....What was it I thought I wanted to say? :)

Wow!, I know what you mean. We just moved a month ago. I can remember putting stuff away, I just can't remember where I put it. So frustrating at times.

Sounds familiar. I can go into a store for three things and if I didn't write it down I will forget what they were once I go through the door.I put some homemade Xmas ornaments away three years ago and still can't find them.Don't worry Eyes, there's lots of us in the same boat...or plane..or was it a car.Dang, I can't remember what I was riding in.He,He

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I just realized that in spite of all the times I was threatened by family and friends that I might never see the ripe old age of....I made it! I am getting old (er) and proud of it!

Cordova, MD

What were we talking about???? he,he
Pretty sonn we'll all be wearing purple!! YEA!!!
And Sis, maybe it was Toys-R-Us... it's been sooooo long since ;ve been in one of those! That I DO remember and thank goodness I don;t have to go in again!!!
But,... didn;t Peter Pan not want to grow up either???
Or was it Mary Poppins with a spoonful of sugar????

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Well...I do wear purple now just have to paint the old hat red!

Shoot! I can write things down and then I forget the list. 'Insanity is hereditary....we inherit it from our kids.
I may be getting older and have gray hair but I have earned every bit of this gray and am improving with age....not getting older.......getting better. hehe Just like a good bottle of wine.

You are as old as you feel, you just might not look it.

"Forever Young", love that one too. And Zany, I do wear Purple and Red
and Yellow and Orange and anything bright that screams, "I am Vital!!" Kind
of hard to ignore someone in a big Red
hat, sporting a Hawaian MuMu.....

Its not that we're getting old, its been the heat! I think, or was that last summer, no, it was the summer before. Hum, can't seem to remember.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Have you ever walked into a room and wondered what the heck you were doing there?? And yes, I make shopping lists and leave them at home....lol! Getting older, respecting it but still young at heart :-)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Okay how many of you remember the following:
The first B/W TV on the block?
Popcorn popped in a pan on the stove?
45 rpm records?
Year the Edsel was introduced?
Friday nite Hops in the gym?
The Four Aces?
Doo Wop?
Poodle Skirts?
White Teeshirts with the sleeves rolled up?
Chrome and Formica Dining Sets?
Real Jukeboxes?
Corner Drugstore Soda Fountain?
Carhops on roller skates?

Many, many more.....oh for the simpler times......{sigh}

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Well I will never forget the time we had our first TV set and dad promised us colour TV. He came home one day with a perspex sheet which was coloured pink, red and blue and he put it over the TV....LOLOL!!!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Yep, I remember all of that. Jutebox songs for a nickel, pop in a bottle you got out of an icebox with ice and ice water in it for a dime (freezing your hand while hunting for the kind you wanted was free).

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

And black velvet flat slippers, huge skirts and stiff petticoats and even bigger earrings!!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Louisa, that certainly was a more frugel way of getting color TV....hee, hee, and
Mary, since central air wasn't in most homes, what a delightful way that was for us to cool down. How in the world did we do it??

Gee, and remember when there was only one phone in the house- a black one- with the circular dials??? And you had to sit in one place to talk?? And if you had big brothers or sisters, you could never use the phone? Or you'd try to call your friend for hours and their phone would be busy??? (What's a busy phone sound like????LOL!)
And a computer was one of those big scientifc things that were in great big rooms in big corporations where you had no idea what it did....
And if you wanted to change the channel on your TV to one of the other THREE stations, you had to get up to do it....
And a fast food at home was a T.V. Dinner- and it could be cooked fast!! It only took about one hour in the oven!!!
And then there were the frozen pot pies!!!
And if you wanted to find someone you would have to run up and down the block yelling for them, or drive around, or whatever- certianly not PAGE(?) them....
And if you were lucky ewnough that your parents got you a HAIRDRYER- you could plug it in and put than big plastic cap over your BIG rollers and sit somewhere in your house for 45 minutes or so and get it dried!!!
WOW! And we thought we had it all back then!!
Yet, the one thing we did have was time-
time to sit down at the dinner table with your family to talk about the day...
time to sit out on the porch or under a tree and read a good book or a great magazine...
time to go inside the drug store and sit down at the counter and order your coke....
time to walk home with your friends from school and talk about the boys you liked and not worry about getting mugged, raped, or whatever...
time to give hugs...
time to meet people face to face and have a good time....

maybe the old times weren't so bad after all!

Ahh....for the good old days!!!

Jss, I remember all those things. As for the telephone with the rotary dial, we're still using one, only it's yellow.

Jss. I remember all those things. As for the rotary dial telephone, we're still using one only instead of black we are modern folks and have a yellow one.

Mary

Talk about being absent minded.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Ahhhhhhhh yes I remember it well (love that song too) We still have and use our rotery phone too. I love it when the kids friends come over and ask if they can use the phone and then ask HOW to use the phone. I am so glad my senior moments only make me misplace current things. While those fond old memories are firmly in place.

Cordova, MD

amen to that Old Rose & Mary! I'm glad those old phones are still around- My dad has one still!!! And they haven;t "broken down" yet- unlike all the new ones!!
Memories are great- I'm sooo glad we all have some fond ones- it makes growing old not so difficult! ( Although I still REFUSE to grow old- not going to- no how- no way- can;t make me either!!!) LOL!
-JSS

I said you are as old as you feel, well i feel older than all that stuff this morning lol, really glad i dont look as old as i feel.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

SIS? What happened? Your posts are gone :{

Yes,....those were the days.
Chrome & formica table...using one in our breakfast area with the red cushion chairs.
45 records....still have em
t-shirts with sleeves rolled up...do that when I'm gardening
Popcorn popped in a pan on the stove.....yep, still make it that way. Gave my popper to my daughter
I remember when my family was one of the first to receive a color tv.Not many programs where in color but a few. Remember seeing the Rose Bowl for the first time in color. The first TV that me and DH had was black and white where around the whole outside of the screen it was lighted. (Told you all, I was older than dirt)
How about those 8 track tapes. Used to have some of those. Gave em to my parents and they still use their stereo with the 8 tracks....well as far as I know anyway. They still had it and used it the last time I seen them several years ago.
As for the family sitting around the dinner table....yes I still kept that up. We all sat down at the same time and everyone cleared their own plate off the table and carried it to the sink and always had a prayer before and after we ate at every meal. Just DH and myself and he still brings his empty plate to the sink after eating. No eating in the living room in front of the television set....it was turned off. We always have and still do...eat at the table.
One good thing about the good old days was leaving home and not looking back. Moving out of Iowa in '71' was the best thing that I ever did. Moving with no regrets and leaving the problems behind.

CoCo, we had a tv like you described. It was a Sylyania. Hey and no cable. I remember one year we had an ice storm and the weight of the ice bent the antenna that was mounted beside the house. This was right before new years and all the college football games. I ran cable to a barbed wire fence and hooked up the tv. Had a lots of snow then to go with the ice but could see the games.

Of course I just turned 29 again I wouldn't know about all the above things lol.
You guys have brought back some wonderful memories like Billy Joel said "keeping The Faith" and we have sure done that here.
As you all know that once you have kids your automatically brain damage at least that is my excuse lol. I have lost so many things that I have put away that I have forgotten what they were and when I stumble accross them I am surprised and think that I bought something new lol.
Now if I could only find that twenty dollars I put away for a rainny day I would be a happy old lady.
