Changing my home page on DG

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

So I went to "Customize Home Page" under my Preferences and made a bunch of changes I thought I'd like. Well, actually, that's putting it nicely. What I really did was mess things up. Is there a default setting or something to put it back the way it was?

Everything is in the center column and doesn't extent past that. Not too bad if you want everything skinny and centered. Is there an explanation somewhere about what the columns and positions mean?

Column one is on the left, column 2 is on the right. The positions put things in order within each column, so decide what you want on the top of the page and give it a lower position number than things you want farther down the page. The way my home page is set up, column 1 is much wider than column 2; I'm not sure if that's the way it always is or if the width is determined by the content

Under Column and Order, the Position allows you to select which column you want your information in. I'm guessing if everything is in the center you inadvertantly selected Position 2?

You've got it a little backwards--"position" is where it is up and down on the page, "column" is left and right.

McGlory, ecrane is so right! So much for a dyslexic attempting to be helpful. I hope I haven't added to your confusion.

I just discovered my watched threads way down on the bottom of my home page. Didn't realize I had any responses to this.

So I messed around more and things look better. Thanks, ecrane3. You were right when you guessed width is determined by content. Evidently some things are inherently skinny and some fat. If you put a skinny one in Column 1Position 1, the fat ones get narrower. I think.

I have a hunch that made no sense.

It's looking better now, but I still wish there was a default setting somewhere. It'll never be like it was, and we can spend the rest of the year trying to determine why I messed with it in the first place.

It's possible (although I don't know for sure) that the admins would have the ability to reset it to some sort of default, you might try using the "contact us" link to ask about it.

I have (and I think most of us) a system in my PC that restores previous settings, without losing any documents.
You can ask it to put back things like they were, before you messed them up by selecting the date and time before you made the changes..

I don't think that works for settings you changed on websites though, that's not something that's controlled by your computer settings.

Actually I know for sure that won't work for settings on websites--I set up how I wanted my DG home page to look from my laptop at home, but when I log on from my work computer, it looks the same because the settings are stored as part of my account here on DG, no matter what computer I look at it from it'll always be the same. So resetting your computer back a couple of days would have no effect whatsoever on home page settings here.
