Plant File comments

Why do so many comments not have the growing zone referenced? As a relatively new gardener knowing the zone the commenter lives in is very valuable to me. I know, I can take the extra step of putting their location in a zone search site. I do. But, gee! Sometimes I've found a lovely looking plant can be a delight in one zone and a horribly invasive thug in another. I love those comments! They've saved me from making some costly mistakes.

I agree with you that it would be nice...but I don't know that there's much that can be done about it, if there's a zone shown, it's because the person who left the comment entered their zone in their profile. Some people do that and some don't, and unless we force everyone to enter a climate zone in their profile you're going to end up with some comments that don't list a zone (I've also run into some where the location's not listed either--again it's because of what people do/don't put into their profiles)

Okay. Well, anyway, I got my rant out. ;~)

Katymac. For most of my plants (Vegetables) the USDA zones are useless. They are useful for perennials and I just did a brief survey of comments and 9 out of 10 do list USDA zones. What you will find more useful is the zipcode reports, indicating where the plant has been successfully grown. For example I am in USDA zone 8a Georgia. The north Pacific coast of Oregon and Washington are also USDA zone 8a, but a quite different climate.

Thank you Farmerdill! That makes wonderful sense! I'll do that.
