gardengus6, I would love to have some verbena bonariensis seeds, if you have enough.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Sorry about the confusion, I was asking if any one had some seeds I would like to give them a try.

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

If I can find some on my plants, I'll send some. Also I have Sweet Autumn Clematis seeds ripening now. They can be aggressive but they smell lovely.

One thing I would really like is if anyone has any seeds for Four O'Clocks- Kaliedoscope, I'd love some. I've failed to germinate 8 store bought packs. As a matter of fact, if anyone has some extra plants, I'll swap or pay!

Thanks,

Maggie

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

I checked back and it was garden6 who had the verbena bonareinsis. Sorry gardengus :-)

Still like some...

OK gardengus and budbloom, I've got you both noted for verbena bonariensis !

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks garden 6

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Me too (if there's enuff!)! How tall does it get?

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Anyone grow iris from seed?

Pagan as you can see from this photo..there will be a gracious plenty.. so I'll send some in for you as well. These I'm letting go to seed, so they'll be ready in time. My verbena grows about 2 1/2 -5 ft, depending on the location. These are in afternoon shade and are 2 1/2 ft, the ones in full sun get taller. I shear them about half in late July for another nice long round of blooms for August through Fall. If you deadhead them, every other week or so they'll keep blooming their hearts out. I even grow them in containers to provide a screen from my neighbors on the back patio. Although it's noted that they can be invasive, I have yet to experience that. Maybe the KS snow keeps them in check. I love their airy flight above the flowers and they do not require stalking. These are wintersown and they're easy from seed, blooming in late Spring till Fall. However, this will be my first year saving seeds from the bonariensis.. don't know why I never collected seeds from these before, so I welcome the opportunity to do so this year.

Thank you! I've never grown that particular type, so this will be very fun. On my "note to Suzy", I'll be putting "anything tall"!

You're welcome! ;0)

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Goodness, I have been doing other things for a day or two and this has been a very busy thread.

Weezingreens Would your Blue Poppy or the Queen's Poppy grow in Zone 6b or are we too warm for it?

Cat 64129 I would love to be on your list for the Double Decker Coneflower.

Margaran May I have some of your Agastache, Black & Blue Salvia and Coral Nymph Sage?

I forgot who had the perennial Snapdragon but, is it about 6" -8" tall and I believe my blooms are pink/white. My mom says the leaves feel like "little kitten ears", I have only found this plant in one place and I would love to have more of it or know how to propagate it. Do you have any suggestions? Some kind of black caterpillar about ate it all last month.

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

DYLANGC,

Agastache- no problem- got tons. Salvias- see note above about them being stingy with seeds. That said, I've got a bunch of B&B and I'm sure I can figger it out;-)

You're on it! I got some seeds from a yucca and ballon flower yesterday. Also a few from Orange butterfly weed. Anyone ever try those?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

morning everone

(Cathy), MO

Good morning Kathy. Are you feeling better this morning?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Cat i was until i had my hubby help me down the steps.so i could look in on my garden. stepped right into a ant hill .
now my feet itch and burn. next time i'll have him put my shoes on me

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Cat, I did some Butterfly weed from seed last year. I had one plant that I didn't kill and it did ok. They are best planted where you want them to grow. They have a taproot that is 2-4 times the height of the plant and so are very hard to transplant. The one I grew in the GH last year was 1" tall and had a taproot 3" long.

(Cathy), MO

Hope they weren't fire ants! Ouch!

I think I will try seeds for butterfly weed. But plant them where they need togo. Thanks for the tip!

Gardengus
I have never tried to grow iris from seed but I can give it a try.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

dylancgc, I have never tried either, sounds rather involved.
I offered some seed on the seed swap thread (just to see if anyone grows iris from seed) and received some good information.
Looks like iris seeds need a lot of washing.
I will include a couple packs in the swap just in case someone wants to give it a try.
I will put your name on one.

hi gardengus id love a pack of iris to try

Hi all --

I just got backfrom a short trip to Chicago.
I can't follow the conversation, exactly, but if anybody is asking whether verbena bonariensis and butterfly weed are easy from seed, yes they are both easy.

Suzy

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

I'd love some Milkweeds. I have the A. Currassavica coming out my ars so would like to try different ones please.

Thanks,

Maggie

I tried wintersowing a bunch of different kinds of milkweed this year in hopes of attracting monarchs...A. tuberosa, A. fruticosa, A. incarnata (Ice Ballet & Soul Mate) & A. curassavica. All I managed to wind up with was 2 seedlings of Ice Ballet to plant. At least it wasn't a total loss.

Maggie, I would love to give both your orange & yellow curassavica a try. I know a lot of Northerners grow it as an annual for the b'flys :0)

any other milkweeds would be welcome as well.

I should have obedient plant 'Pink Bouquet' in time to send. It's the first year in my garden. I guess it tends to gets a bit agressive, but you could always deadhead to keep it in check. it's awfully pretty and the bees adore it.

Oh, I also have seeds from the ubiquitous Stella d'Oro daylily if there is any interest. I've never grown daylilies from seed either, but there is tons of info on the daylily forum.

Kathy, so sorry about the ants. you surely didn't need another problem :( thanks for the list of 'haves'. it will help us with what to send.

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Wow - Physostegia - it was still in my cut 'n paste from looking for it on line last night! Whew - grampapa, are we in some kind of wavelength or what? Those seeds would be *great*. I saw them first in the LA botanical garden and loved the interesting way the blooms stack. Have they been invasive for you at all?

(Maggie) Jacksonvill, FL(Zone 9a)

Grampapa,

You will love the A. curassavica- when you cut it back, put the stems in water and they root. No growing from seeds again on these. This brings me to the fact that while I have them out my (e)ars, the seeds I do have are from 2006 & mixed colors at that. The caterpillars didn't allow much blooming this year. I'd be glad to send you some well rooted cuttings to overwinter. Or contact me in the spring.and I'll send them then. Might even be able to separate orange from yellow. By the time you get them, they'll have a good head start.

You can get free A. Curassavica milkweed seeds here- http://www.livemonarch.com/free-milkweed-seeds.htm
If you give them a small donation ($1), you can get a larger packet of seeds

grampapa, my DH was sorry about the ants also. i am constantly asking him to scraych my feet and ankles!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Grampapa
The obediant plant is added to my list, it's beautiful!

(Sheryl) Gainesboro, TN(Zone 6b)

Oh, it figures - I must have cut down 400 milkweed plants in my pastures to keep them from my baby colt - toxic to horses. Think I'll make up for it and get some seeds and plant them in another open area. I *knew* I was going to regret it.... is that the only plant the monarchs really like?

Pagan~ monarchs were dancing on my celosia 'Pink Candles' and the heliopsis helianthoides this morning as I was collecting seeds from the heliopsis. Of course, the painted ladies and bumblebees were dancing along with them.
