Little and Lewis field trip

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Anyone interested? I'll phone them later today and see what kind of dates they still have available and all that.

So far Sun 10/14 has been mentioned on another post.

I'm sure there are some fun nurseries on Bainbridge we could visit and I might be able to come up with a garden or two as well.

I think the 14th would work for me. I can come up and stay in Seattle for the weekend.

IIRC, I think Hostajim said that a nursery called something like Dragonfly (Am I remembering the name right?) in Kingston bought a lot of the Heronswood stock that wasn't transitioned?

The 14th would work for me as well. Rachel

Look what I just found on their website:

Join hosts David Lewis and George Little and guide, Countess Alessandra Gardino for a twelve-night art, garden, food and wine lover’s journey to bella Italia. Let your senses be overwhelmed as together we explore the very meaning of the word “beauty” in Italy. Discover the culinary arts with your private chef, visit some of producers of elegant ceramics, fine wines, delicious olive oils and mouth-watering cheeses. Then, relive history with intimate walks through stunning Etruscan hill towns and stroll the halls of palace museums whose rooms seemingly burst with ancient treasure. Also included on this exclusive small group journey: entertaining cooking classes, colorful village markets, renaissance gardens and fine bistro dining.

How fun would that be?!?!? Gardens, food and wine - wow! Maybe we can talk them into doing on in England!

Anyway, I called them and they said the 14th was okay, they like to do appts in the morning, so 11 am would work well. They said the gardens were not at their height, which of course we understand.

I just need to phone back and confirm - they want to know better numbers. I told them 5-10 but they wanted more definite numbers.

So..... Right now we have 3. Anyone else?

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

It works for me, Gwen.

So. Puget Sound, WA(Zone 8b)

Great! According to MapQuest it's only a two hour drive for me. Add me to the list.

Edited to add: I found this blog on the gardens. Wow! Beautiful!

Quite a garden.

We'll have to put Christopher Lloyd's garden on the SE England tour, and also see if we can get into Sarah Raven's.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

That is a great garden, I thought the pic with the little angel was too cute.
and I like looking at Ciscos garden. Im puting thae link in my favorites.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Okay, let's start a list. I'll put it in the first post. Please sign with your real name when you say you can come.

Is there a link for Cisco's garden. He/she keeps getting mentioned in various places - I'd like to see what he does.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

In the hyperlink that KatyeMac posted #4032980 on the right side click on Cisco Morris, Its his house I've seen it on TV. My DH thinks hes crazy I think he is funny
Woo La La.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Mary, I'm with you - I think Ciscoe Morris is a riot!!! I saw him in person once (he was the guest speaker at a retirement lunch that my dad took me to) and he's even better then! Very, very knowledgeable, but a nut!!!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Have you got on his link on channel 5. I thought it was very interesting. I would love to see him in person. I dont get out much these days.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

How bout this Laurie

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Warning: he can be very obnoxious (people either love him or hate him!). I think he's marvelous.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I think he is hysterical. My hubby and I watch Channel 5 News and the whole time that Meaghan Black (Ciscoe does his little segments with her, she's also the Meteorologist for the station) was pregnant we kept joking that "maybe" she was having his "love child!" Oolalala!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

LOL - Rachel, that's too funny!!

Oh my gawd! Can you imagine living with him? He is an enthusiast, but I bet he just bounces off the walls when he's indoors - NO! I'll bet he doesn't come in, he just switches on his little miners lamp on his safety helmet and gardens all night, chatting away to all the plants, blandishing the slugs, driving all his neighbours nuts. But, hey, no burglars in that neighbourhood - no one would want to get swooped up in Cisco madness. We just don't grow them like that over here. He literally can't hold still, he just vibrates. I need a cuppa tea after watching that. CALMCALMCALM.

Nice garden - a little bit intense. But nice.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

He is one of a kind! His radio show is hilarious, you can tell that it drives him crazy to be stuck in a sound booth! He is a wealth of information.

Susybell, Dragonfly nursery is not far from Little and Lewis. actually she has a landscape business 3 doors from Little and Lewis. and the nursery is at Heidi's home.in Kingston. I'll give her a call and see what she has going on the 14th. the nursery is only open Fri, Sat, Sun. right now. but that works anyway. she got a lot of carry over from the Heronswood open house. the 14th works for me. I'll definetly go. just let me know the time, Jim

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

susybell, Heidi from Dragons Fly Farms emailed me back and said she would be open that day and she has a fall sale going on. I haven't been to Little and Lewis before, so I'm looking forward to it. Jim

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

This is getting better by the minute. Can't wait............

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Jim,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I've been a little scattered this week. Good to hear about Dragonfly Farms! Ooooh, and a sale! Well, that definitely means no walk-on on the ferry, lol!

Well I've been watching this thread and hemming and hawing, not making up my mind, but Dragonfly Farms pushed me over the edge. If you have room for one more, I'm in.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Carole, I'll be glad to drive. You might want to reconsider chipping in for gas when you see my car. LOL But I'll let you pay for ferries.

Gwen

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

hey, all of you planning to make the trip. maybe you could come up with an appoximate time that you'll arrive at L & L, I'd like to meet you all. Jim

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

How about 10:30 since we will be taking the tour at 11?

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

sounds good to me, Jim

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Gwen, would you d-mail the directions to your house again? I would be lost for sure!! And what time do you want to leave?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Gwen & Murmur,

Would you have room for a small maple tree seedling in a pot? It's about 5 ft tall, including the pot.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

I'm going to phone L&L today to make the final arrangements with them. Then we can plan exact times, meeting places, etc.

Carole, I'll dmail you directions and we can figure out what time. I'll have to mapquest it or something to figure out how long it might take us. I haven't decided if we'll bring the suburban (lots of room to bring stuff back) or the mazda (good gas mileage, heated seats, and nav system), but I'm leaning towards the suburban because I may want to bring back a L&L piece. I'll probably know more by Wed.

Gwen

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Gwen, I truly will help with gas as well as pay the ferry fare (selfishly, then maybe I could bring the tree home that Susybell wants to give me???!!!).

I am so looking forward to seeing those I've met before and meeting more new DG members!!!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I got some bad news today, BUT DON'T WORRY I WILL BE THERE
I have to work late Sat. nite will get home around 12AM

I cant wait to meet everyone. And Laurie I well make sure we take lots of pics for you.

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

Gwendalou, I talked to Dave Lewis today and he said they were in the middle of putting things away for the season, and wasn't expecting any group on Oct. 14. he said he recalled talking about it. but hadn't made any commitments, that he could recall. he emphasized that things were not what you would want to make an effort to see. if there is something I missed here, I stand corrected. regards, Jim

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

Group, I talked with Heidi at Dragon Fly Farms, she said that she does have a sale going on and all perenials are 15% off. so I'm still going to make the trip on Sunday. I didn't have a chance to get up there in August like I had planned. so maybe it's good I waited. Jim

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Well, this definitely isn't good news! Doesn't sound too much like they want visitors.

Has anyone talked to Gwen about this yet? If we can't do this, is there somewhere else we could visit? Or, maybe we make plans and get a solid commitment from L&L for June or something?
