As the days grow shorter and temperatures cool it seems that the blooming frenzy picks up. Please share what is in bloom where you live?
My Hibiscus have been bursting with the bittersweet blooms of fall.

Looks like we grow a lot of the same things.
Question- is the Hibis sabdariffa Rosella a hardy or tropical ?
Also do you do cuttings of the hardys before the first freeze.
I have a Var. tropical hibis, small rooted cutting, if you are interested.
I am not as good at names (real, latin ) as you. But I think the Hibis is Snow Queen. Single red bloom, beautiful foliage.
Thanks
David
Good morning David ~ I don't do cuttings but lug the big plants in and out over winter. The hardy can stay out and will freeze down. It comes back late in spring but when it starts, get out of its' way! LOL
This is my first time with the Roselle but it is probably considered a tropical annual. It reseeds freely and can be invasive in warmer climates. I was just hoping for blooms much less seeds ~ lol
I am afraid I am not much good at cuttings... Do you have lots of cuttings experience? Maybe you could start a thread here to educate those of us that need it... 8 )
BTW, do you grow one of them vintage Labs too? LOL
I picked up a varigated hibiscus earlier this fall at a garage sale. Pretty foliage but hasn't bloomed yet.

I am lucky in that I live in Cherokee County where all of the greenhouses are located. Have many friends that are growers. They grow mostly annual bedding plants. That is not my interest but take their culls when they dump them. I do get my pots and used potting soil from them by the pickup loads.
I built a small greenhouse, 14 X 16, but only keep in above freezing so keep tropicals alive.
I do a ton of cuttings with mixed success but by no means an expert. I am in the Master Gardeners club and do lots of plants for the sale each year. I did do a demo for the class of rooting roses and acuba. I try to root almost anything just to see if it works. I use the powder root tone, pot them up and keep them damp in the shady area. I have several colors/type of brugs. Root them in water then into the soil.
My son bought a home in Miss. and have lots of things going for him. Will go down and plant in a week or so. He likes the hummers and butterflies so most are that type plant. Do have some tropical type things also- cana, elephant ears, hibiscus and banana.
I usually start many flats of seeds also. Just as easy to do many as it is to do few so this gives me lots of trades and give aways. Garden club members come by often and get many things that I have extras. I have found that what you give away comes back to you ten fold.
Geeze ! I am a bit chatty this morning. Got to run. A storm came through late yesterday and blew down a dead tree that just missed my truck. Better get it cut up. Little of the needed rain, just wind.
Pod, I love your garden. You have such a green thumb for all the things i can't seem to grow. It always looks so lush and green, when I look at your photos it always seems 10 degrees cooler than where I am (of course i know better) it just has that appearance.
You inspired me to get out and take a walk this morning, will be back soon with photos.
DdeTex, you said "I usually start many flats of seeds also. Just as easy" mind sharing some tips. I stink at seed starting.
I have some seeds if you'd like some!! Just DMail me with your address. I just whacked it all down (almost) yesterday as I was cleaning the bed out. It drops seed pods like crazy! Each flower makes 5 seeds. The flowers only last for one day, and they open in the morning and close later in the day. This one gets early morning shade, but spends most of the day in the full hot sun. During dry weather, it does wilt a bit, but always perks back up in the late evening.
Here's a close-up of the flower as a teaser!
