Feel free to upload your new blooms right here!

Thanks, Nancy! It's good to be back! It's too early to be this sick, and worst of all is that I missed that Gessie show I was so looking forward to going to. I'm still pouting about that. LOL You sent me that 'Tropical Twister' and it certainly has the most vividly colored blooms of all my Streps! I love it! Thank you again! :o) I'll send you cuttings of the var. Aeschy. ;o)

I think DS-70 is beautiful, Lin! The texture of the foliage is so, I don't know what the word is, but I'm mesmerized by it... It's smooth, but slightly rough at the same time. LOL A very "pettable" plant. ;o)

Hey Lin, what's that trailing plant in the bottom right corner of your DS-70 picture, by the heron? It's beautiful!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh no no no, I am the lucky one by far *lol*
Lookie what Lin sent me :)
2 goldfish plants I didn't have (Lin the one you sent is not the same one I have....sorry Gram *lol*) one of them being the yellow goldfish. Lin had already sent me this plant early in the summer but somehow I killed it and she was willing to share MORE of it with me again. I can't tell you what that meant to me. I hated to write and told her what had happened but I missed the little bugger and wanted to try again :)
Thank you Lin :)

I am loving those blooms, Lin.......................Rain............you better put my name on a cutting of that purple sinningia!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have more blooms but I have to show you what "white white' means..........I certainly hope these mom leaves hang around long enough to get the babies going with some green in them............or they won't make it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thumbnail by gessiegail

LOL Yeah, yeah, Gail, I knew you'd say that and I've already got one potted up for you! ;o)

Those white babies are great!! Don't you wish they could survive like that?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin is always a giver, Kim...................

here is one more white white babies..........

Thumbnail by gessiegail

Those are beautiful, Kim! Lin's a sweetie for sure! We've all killed our fair share of plants, so I feel comfortable saying all of us here don't mind a bit if someone asks for a second try with something. LOL

(Zone 1)

Rain: It's called Rhipsalis capilliformis. I've had it in that location for about 3 years and it seems to love it. It only gets watered maybe once a month!

Good thing you remembered Amy that my favorite color in the world is purple.............and a purple sinningia is simply too great!!!!!!!!!

which reminds me............has anyone heard from jannich................think I am going to call her house...........this is worrying me............

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Amy, I'm not sure what happened but I bought the variegated lipstick like yours above.
Put it outside this summer and it doubled in size.........BUT.......all the variegation is gone :(
Why would it do that?

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Boy Lin, your plants are amazing!
Keep looking at your DS-70, never seen one that big before :)

That's gorgeous, Lin!! I love finely textured foliage like that. Does it bloom? It looks like a "firecracker plant" in one of my houseplant books, but I can't recall the botanical name of that one.

Gail, I just knew you'd want a start of that Sinningia. I've about learned what you'll like and what you won't. ;o)

Kim, I noticed in that picture I posted that one of the vines on mine doesn't have any variegation. I know some plants try to revert and you're supposed to cut off the non-variegated vines, but I don't know if that applies to Aeschys or not. Variegated AVs can lose some of their variegation if it's too hot, but again, I don't know if Aeschy's do the same. Odd, though, isn't it? Wonder if the variegation will come back this winter when it's cooler...

Well, alright then, if nobody is going to chat anymore, then I guess I'm forced to go and fix supper. :oP LOL I'll see y'all later!

Gail, I've not heard a word from or about Jan. Please let us know if you find out anything. I'm worried about her and praying for her.

(Zone 1)

Now, I am confused! I'm not so certain this is Rhipsalis after all. It does look a lot like the Firecracker Plant. This guy has not bloomed in the years I've had it. I have had it in full shade. I will have to do some further research to make certain I have it labeled correctly! When I bought it the label just said Rhipsalis. Someone here on DG told me it was R. capilliformis.

Firecracker Plant is Rusellia: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=firecracker+plant&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

Raingazer - I am sorry you guys have been so sick. I hope you will be better very soon. Makes you appreciate feelin good doesn't it?

Strep 'Blackbird' is so neat. Perfect name for it. Like it has wings. I love it...unique.

My DS-70 has reddish tones to the leaves from sun. It came that way. The laconosa plant you bought for me is lovely. No blooms but it did have peduncles when received. They quicky dried up from the shipping I suppose. One of these days it will bloom and I can't wait for the fragrance. Did you order any hoyas from Rob's. I wish I could say I didn't! Uuuh...they came today. I have never seen anything so small with chopped off leaves besides. I wonder how many years it will take till you could call what I received a plant? They are pitiful. Wish I could get my money back. I will take some photos so you can see these lilliputians.

Snow,Now I am glad I never ordered any hoyas from Robs.I was always tempted to but all the av's I have gotten from them were always pretty much just plantlet sized,so I was afraid the hoyas would be small too.Thats too bad.I wish you could get a refund for them.

(Zone 1)

Here's my variegated lipstick. It's getting dark outside hope you can see it.

Lin - the streps seeds come from the white one called 'Trumpeter Swan'.

Gail...try misting those white babies with some very weak fertilizer like 20-20-20. Maybe they will green up some. If they are in a cool spot, try moving them where it's warmer.

Rain - I forgot to say earlier how fabulous the basket of variegated aeschynanthus is. So nice when the plants are big and full.

The hoya lacunosa...

I've only ordered AV's and Chirita's from Robs and they were always quite small. A couple of the Chirita's didn't survive they were so tiny. Everything seems healthy but I have difficulty sometimess with plants that small.

(Zone 1)

Oh Gail ... I love those baby AV leaves that are white, white! I hope mom leaf survives awhile to help those babies along! Keep us posted on how they do. I've never seen anything like that! I've had a couple of leaves come up light in color but never that white! I think they are so pretty!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I need to go take pictures of those pathetic hoyas. Be glad, cedarnest, you haven't ordered them. Not worth 2 cents. Actually, they are a joke.

I am kind of envious of those variegated aeschynanthus baskets. Not kind of...am. They are beautiful. So big and full. Gorgeous.

Here is the DS-70 as I received it. It has grown quite a bit in the few weeks I've had it. Stinky ;-)

i want to see those pathetic hoyas from Rob's...................we need to know the truth!!!!!!!! please post them.................

***********edited to say that bmedel said it took her hoyas from Rob over a year just to put in a 4 or 6" pot.............so sad she said.................

Okay, I'll go now and take some pics. Be right back.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Wow Stinky sure has pretty leaves tho.I love it!.... too bad it has to smell yucky!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL, cedarnest!

Okay here are the so called hoya plants received from Rob's Violet Barn. Don't laugh too loud! I put a matchbook next to the first one so you can see the size of the "plants" in their 2 1/2" pots. This one has two chopped pointy things with 2 tiny leaves starting to grow in the middle. They are all this small except one only has one leaf. You'll see.

Thumbnail by Snowrose
Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Another 'beauty'...what's up with the chopped leaves?

Thumbnail by Snowrose
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I think you ought to ask for your money back ......................that is totally unacceptable..........if he can't grow hoyas then don't offer them.................now I know why he has a less than stellar rating..................needs to stick to growing plants he knows how to grow.................

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That just tells me that you haven't seen the plant that you get to keep.................who needs chopped up leaves on any plant..........he is sending you stuff that hasn't even been rooted..........................go to garden watchdog............that is what it is there for..........

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Last one...I can't take it ;-) This one has 1 leaf and a chopped fragment.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am so glad you posted these so we won't make the same mistake...........thank you so much, Snow..................

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

OMG those pictures make me so mad! They definitely are pathetic. There really is no excuse for it! Rob's should be ashamed to have even sent them! They aren't even worth the shipping cost.I sure hope you get a refund Snow!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, it's good to know. The good, the bad and the ugly. I find myself laughing about it but put out also.I wish I had the money back for something more worthwhile. You never know when you order something sight unseen what you're going to get. If nothing else, like you said, it might help others from making the same mistake.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Does Lyndon Lyon grow hoyas Snow..............they send the biggest healthiest plants of all..............

(Zone 1)

Unbelievable! I knew he always shipped very, very small plants but I've never seen anything like that with the chopped leaves! Why in the world would they do that? I can't think of any good reason for chopping the leaves like that ... on any plant! I hope you send them a nice letter with photo's of your plants Snow. I'm wondering if a worker in the shipping area did it for some reason? You really should contact them and show them a photo .... a picture is worth a thousand words!

I know his prices are good and they do state somewhere on their website what size of pot will be shipped, but there's no good reason whatsover to chop off leaves like that! It will take forever for those plants to put out new whole leaves.

I would rather spend my money elsewhere from now on. I'm afraid Rob's just lost my business.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I have to tell you, I also ordered 3 hoyas from ROB!!!!!!!! NEVER NEVER again! I called him on it too and he's a jerk!
Told me I would have to pay shipping $13.00 mind you AGAIN in order to get replacements! I told him I would never pay $13.00 for all 3 of the ones he send in the first place. They are the most HORRIFIC hoyas I've ever seen! Only 1 is still alive (serpens) and I've since ordered from a vendor I trust on E-Bay to replace them.

If you are looking for NICE cuttings for reasonable prices, (I am in NO WAY affiliated with this seller but have purchased many from them)!!, here is a seller I recommend that also combines shipping so it's better to order what you want all at once as it really does save on the shipping and they have some nice ones (at least I've always been happy with what I purchased and received). Most of Jodi's plants are Buy It Now so you don't have to worry about "bidding wars" and I always let Jodi know I'm a returning customer and member of Dave's and feel as though my plants reflect that:

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Meant to tell you, when I linked above, the prices start highest to lowest so start on page 3 *lol*

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That is a wonderful source for hoyas.........thanks for telling us...............I have had good orders from Rob on avs, Kohlerias, etc............but he does have a very abrupt voice and doesn't want to compromise about anything......................I just stick to what I know he grows well.................and he does grow well with other plants.............

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I am glad to know you all feel the same way I do about the hoyas from Rob's Violet Barn being deplorable. The way they look, I don't even want to waste my time. I'll be annoyed everytime I look at them. Would have been better to take the substantial amount of money and burn it. I can't afford to just throw money away.

Kim...I was going to end my rant on a much brighter note saying I received plants from Jodie today too and they are NICE! Very clean, healthy, flawless plants in 4" pots. It's like night and day. Once they grow some, I will have cuttings to trade. Might be spring. These are a pleasure to look at and made me very happy. Plus, her shipping rates are reasonable. Not jacked up sky high prices. The box received was marked the same amount sent. I will take pictures of these tomorrow when it's light out. I am delighted with them.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Kim,I think thats who I order from on Ebay..Is that cowboyflowerman?
