From One Basket Case to Another!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I have not gotten any Christmas stuff out yet. I am not ready for that yet. Still needing to do more in the greenhouse and outside. But it is too cold. But I can't seem to want to concentrate on other things till I am satisfied with the plant situation. I got the new internet system though and now posting pics is a dream! It is so fast. I used to play several games while waiting for 1 pic to post...LOL Here is a pic of the front of the greenhouse with DH's finishing touches.

Wow that is fabulous! I see you have your compost standing by!
Have you got heating in it?
My kids like to get the decorations and tree out on the 1st Dec, so they can have as long as possible with decorations up!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

We did too when we had kids at home. It is just the 2 of us now and the kids may come here once or twice before Christmas, and actually since it is winter they probably won't come at all till Christmas. We mostly go to see them about every weekend. They are about 45 min away. They were here Thanksgiving, but I cannot stand having the tree up for Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time is enough for me! LOL We are in no rush to do it since it is just us.

I don't even do the shopping thing till I am good and ready. and then I try to do it all at once. I don't like to have to go more than 2 times anyway. Maybe when I retire it will be different.

london England, United Kingdom

I haven't done any shopping yet! only for flowers!!!!!!!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

My 3 are all 5 1/2 years apart. They are 26, 31, 38...

london England, United Kingdom

I thought 5 years was quite a gap! Do you have grandchildren yet?

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a grandson 20, granddaughter 8, adopted granddaughter 20 mo. Step grandsons 5, 13, 16.

london England, United Kingdom

Will you be having them over for christmas at your house? that's a lot to feed!!!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I have fed more believe me!!! But I don't do it ALL! Everyone brings stuff. But I have had all of ours, plus my DH's 4 siblings, their spouses, their kids and their kids spouses, and their kids kids. LOL

london England, United Kingdom

Good, so you won't have to do ALL the work!!
It will just be the 4 of us for christmas day, but we plan to go up to my Mum and Dad's
in Liverpool for a few days over the holidays.
Our eldest Annie will be 18 on new years eve! we will be back in London by then so she can be with her friends.
Have you got all your plants in the greenhouse yet?

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

All the plants are in, but I still have brug cuttings in buckets waiting to be cleaned up & sprayed so they can come in. SO far we have not had a freeze. I am lucky and should have them all in this week-end.

What about you, are you all ready for winter?

london England, United Kingdom

Not really, I am frantically trying to clear weeds at my allotment before the next inspection in January, if it's not tidy....................it's curtains for me!! in other words I'll lose the plot.!!!!!!!!!!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh No!!! Will you make it? Can you get help? How far away from your home is your plot?

london England, United Kingdom

I sent an SOS to my sister in law! she is coming tomorrow to help me until sunday.
I just hope it is not raining, the soil is very heavy now. We are going to cover some of the larger areas with plastic sheeting, and tidy up the rest.
We can only try!!! It is about 20 minutes walk from here, too far really, and on the way back, the walk kills me!!
I have parsnips. growing.......yay! amongst the weeds.
You are lucky to have your hubbys help! mine is .................well, too busy doing the crossword or reading the paper!!!!!!

Ooohhh, Pretty flowers! Is that his crossword on the table? LOL

How big is the allotment? Do you also have gardens or flower beds at home?

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen,
I'm allowed to stay, passed the January inspection!!!!!!!
The allotment is about 5m wide and 20m long. Big enough to grow loads of weeds anyway!
At home I have flower beds everywhere. I got rid of my lawn and made an Island bed instead.
Yes, that's His crossword, I'm the busy one in the garden, he just admires it without getting his hands dirty!

Did you get any new baskets?
I got a set of 3 like this one.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen!
Lovely to hear from you. I'm sorry you're not feeling well, keep warm and drink lots of fluids!!
Looking forward to seeing your new baskets when you're feeling up to it.

Thank you! I feel a little better, but very tired. I just need to find the strength to take 3 pictures... LOL

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Terri, A wonderful pretty arrangement. I love all the movement, the roses going up, the bells down, ivy cascading down and around. It cheered me up, thanks

Yardqueen, I hope you're feeling better.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen,
Sounds like you need a propa rest, so just take it easy.

Adele, Thankyou, you made my day!

OOps I just realised it wasn't a basket, sorry basket thread!

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen, Are you feeling any better? Karma is sick too, winter bugs going around!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Terri,

Yes, I am better. Thanks for asking. Sorry Karma is sick! It seems a lot of people are sick now.

About the baskets... I will try to take some pics when I clean house Sunday. I will be very busy tomorrow.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen, yippy you're better! good. Don't go overdoing it with the housework!!!!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... No danger there! I have assigned myself two rooms, and the bathrooms. The rest is DH's! I will do our bedroom, the infamous black-hole, and the two bathrooms.

We are having out of state company next week-end. The kind you only see every few years so the house must be perfect (perfect as possible, anyway).

london England, United Kingdom

Lol, so you're having an early spring clean!!!!!!!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Well.... Not quite. When I retire is when I will room by room clean and streamline everything. I am really just wantaiing it to be presentable, and they will only be here basically for one day and we will be visiting other people for that whole day.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen,
I hope you had a nice weekend and your house was presentable for your guests?!
I have a nice basket! but no flowers to put in it yet, it's quite big so I'm going to need many flowers to fill it.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Terri

It is this coming weekend that they are coming... I would be hard put to find flowrers to fill a small basket right now!

london England, United Kingdom

Oh, in that case I'll be over to help you with the cleaning!

back soon T

london England, United Kingdom

Have they been yet?!!!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

They left yesterday! I enjoyed the visit but am glad to be back to just me & DH!!! I will try to take the pics of the 3 baskets in a day or so. I am back to work and am very tired. I have some pics in my camera that I want to download and clear out before I take any more. And my house still looks very nice... Now if it could just stay that way until I retire... LOL

london England, United Kingdom

Oh la la! will DH be taking you out for valentines?!!
Nice to hear your house is spendid! I wish mine was like that all the time, two teenagers here make sure it isn't!
About the baskets dear, one day I will get a nice suprise....LoL
Hey, don't work too hard!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

No danger of working too hard. I am home now and eating dinner that DH made me. After I finish eating I am going to lay on the couch and we will watch a movie. I am spoiled rotten. especially since he retired.

Yeah those teenagers can keep you busy! I have 3 kids, but they are all grown now. Youngest is 26... How old are yours?

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Yardqueen.
Nice to enjoy each other's company!
My 2 girls had their birthdays in the christmas holidays, they are 13 and 18 now. They don't help with chores without moaning about it, and they eat alot!
I found some wire baskets I might use for valentine arrangements!
