Crinkled vs uncrinkled

Well, all I can say ..... if Ron hasn't been able to do this cross, then it must be near impossible if not completely so! I was reading all of this and thinking ... okay .... I'll try hand pollinating some to see if I can get a cross. HA! Yeah right! If Ron can't do it, then it's not likely to happen!!! But ya know .... with modern science and technology .... it WILL happen some day! :-) I hope I am around to see it. I'd love some big large yellows and some crosses of yellow with all the other colors that MGs come in. (sigh) I'm only dreaming .....

Arlan - You just stopped my heart with the photo you just posted. Is that for real???? If so, how absolutely exciting!!!! Do you know what the cross was to get the pale yellow?

They obviously are not sharing the exact cross, but it does involve a scientific cultivar called Q1211. It has been noticed by many that the background color for many speckled flowers is a creamy yellow. They are using plants that have this heritage, but don't have the spots.....

One problem they are encountering is that the flowers lack substance and hardly survive opening, let alone exposure to the sun.... interesting none the less!

Arlan -That's the nicest yellow nil that I've seen yet...
If I could get a nil that is that large, opens up nice and already has the degree of yellow shown in the photo..

.I'll improve it so fast it'll make there heads spin off...

Try to get Dee to target that(!) one...

TTY,...

Ron

P.S. - "One problem they are encountering is that the flowers lack substance and hardly survive opening, let alone exposure to the sun.... interesting none the less!"

That's because the darker pigments that usually cover up the yellow are metabolically active and vital to the health of the plant...I'm familiar with the scenario...

but how to make the blind see,the dumb talk and the lame walk...
