Another side view.
Okay, Humberto..
Ya'll can see the difference between me and UniQue Treasures where we live as for damaged to the areas.. I am 35 miles west of Beaumont right off Hwy 90..I was on the edge of this storm and got mostly rain instead of wind...
I don't plan on leaving this area cuz of all these storms.... I stuck around when Hurricane Rita hit..and just now got my place all cleaned up from that storm...It will take the act of Congress to get me to leave my house!!..LOL....
So glad you didn't experience massive winds, Moodene. It's amazing only 35 miles made that much difference. You who survived Rita should be given special dispensation from any more hurricane/TS damage for many years!! Keep up the great spirits, Moodene!
Thank you, I will!!! I been living here all my life coming to my grandparent place..and no storm will make me go away..LOL...
I hear you there, Moodene! Stay and enjoy our south Texas paradise winters - and evacuate when the storms get too strong.
Glad everybody's OK there. I pay alot more attention to the weather in other areas now that I know so many people around the country because of DG.
Moodene, I know what you mean about moving out of your house. We haven't been threatened by weather, but after 11 years in the military and 11 moves I was ready to settle down and buy a house. When we moved into this one in 1990, I told my DH "the next time I move, I'm gong out in a casket."
LOL..I hear ya!!
There are two sides to that dilemma. Moved here with babies in feb.,1967. Have given away, thrown away, had garage sale, furnished childrens place, grand childrens place, taken to the homeless, to the thrift store, pick up for anybody that calls.....and I'm still overwhelmed with "stuff". Told DH whenever I leave here....nothing goes with me...clothes in the closet, furniture wherever, penicllin in the refrig, trash in the cans.....guess that sounds pretty much like a ride in a hearse. BTW already have plots next to my parents.
My SIL wanted to leave everything behind when they moved recently. I asked her if they were going to hire somebody to pack them up to move from Alief to Sugarland. She said "Pack? Pack what? I'm going to walk out throw a match in and shut the door." She didn't of course, but I don't think she took much with her besides clothes and pictures.
wow..not me..ain't moving nowhere except to the grave or wherever family puts me..LOL..
Today, we (me, hubby and his bro) went to the deer lease. It's kinda sorta, ina round about way, between Moodene and myself in Sour Lake. We went to check on the blinds, feeders, etc. to see that everything was still standing where it had been put. We noticed very little damage to the areas we checked. Some hanging branches (lightweights) and just slightly more water in the low lying spots than is normal. All the blinds, etc. were standing firmly. Only one ladder stand looked as though it might have shifted a tad. We had a blast running the 4 wheelers through the sleughs (sp.?) and puddles.
Noticed a whole lot of butterflies that I haven't ever seen before. Really pretty ones.
Janet
Wow how pretty! Do you think they are migrating or a result of the hurricane blowing thru?
I really don't know Pod. We went out there earlier this year (it's our first year on this lease) and I saw many many butterflies all over the place. There are a lot of wildflowers along the roads that lead to the hunting areas. Many purples, blues, whites and yellows. I saw humongous swallowtails today. Lots of dragonflies also. Big guys with "saddlebags" that I've rarely seen here in SE Texas.
D flies ~ my favorite. May just be plentiful as season is winding down.
We are seeing flocks of hummingbirds coming thru. Most are here in the am and pm so I guess they are headed south too.
Janet, glad to see that Humberto didn't anymore damage for you.
Well, just to update, spent most of Saturday cleaning up at the sweetie's house. Still can't tell how much damage it did, because after the insurance fiasco that followed Rita, he's not moving/removing/repairing one single thing until the adjustor comes out -- next week! I can't believe it will take so long. But his power is back on, at least. The shed is a shambles -- but only from the back! HAHAHAHAHAHA...
I was so pleased the hummingbirds that dine at my house seem to have survived just fine. Nature takes care of things, doesn't she? They are really starting to swarm and it's so nice to sit there and watch them.
Ann,
When Rita blew through here, 2 trees landed on my house. I was told, by the ins. co. immediately after the storm, when I asked what would be covered, "It won't be covered if you don't ask." 2 weeks later I came home and called the insurance company to tell them to send the adjuster. I told them that things were beginning to mold and stink. They said take photos of everything and then you can dispose of it. It was almost 2 months before adjuster actually came to look. (can you imagine what it would have smelled like at THAT POINT?!) I printed out 8 X 10 color glossy photos - about 70 of them from all angles. While waiting on the adjuster, I did my homework and got replacement cost of everything that was damaged. Hubby kept telling me that they wouldn't cover this and that. They paid for EVERYTHING! Adjuster told me that without the photos (4 X 6's would have been just fine), they would have denied most of my claim. They even paid for landscaping because the entire yard was trashed. I had photos of what it looked like BEFORE AND AFTER.
Good advice -- and a lot of people around here, I'm sure, wish they had known that before they cleaned up! I leant him my digital camera, and he went home this morning to take pictures of everything. At least the adjustors shouldn't be quite as busy this time as they were two years ago.
Oh, how well I remember the smell...
I heard this morning that Entergy only had about 8000 that were still without power. I didn't realize so many were without, but 100,000 lost power.
Ann, I was amazed at all they covered with Rita. Even cameras and computers that were 15-20 years old. It's a lot of work to find out replacement costs, etc. but well worth it. We pay so much money each year for insurance, just in case something like that happens. I would imagine that the insurance companies really took a big hit in 2005. When my homeowners policy came up for renewal, we had to have additional coverage for windstorm, etc. Texas has a pool for that kind of coverage. At least the actual HO policy was less than original, though the combined coverage was more.
