A pair of Trumpeter Swans. The largest of all Swans. Photographed 9/11/2007, in a pond at mile 111.8 on the Parks Hwy. near Talkeetna, Alaska.
DAILY PICS-VOL. 20
Very nice to see.
Nice pic!
The largest of all Swans
Depends on how it is measured . . . in length, the longest, yes:
Trumpeter - 150-180cm
Whooper - 140-165cm
Mute - 125-160cm
But it seems they're a bit skinny . . in weight, Mute wins, and Trumpeter is third:
Mute - 7.0-15.0kg
Whooper - 7.5-12.7kg
Trumpeter - 7.3-12.5kg
Of course a lot of Mute Swans do get grossly over-fed in city parks! I'd suspect one weighing 15kg wouldn't be able to fly.

Gorgeous shot Gary!! Thanks for starting the new thread! Pelle
Beautiful pic; good job Frank!
Nice photos!
Lovely pic Frank! It certainly could be a juvenile Pine Warbler it has the 2 wingbars and the streaking on the side. Maybe a female?
LOL, I have a bad track record with Pine & Palm Warblers so I'm going to bow out and let someone else do this ID.
Again, very nice pic!
BTW, do you keep a Life List on the birds you see (new ones).
Nice one GP, I haven't seen my females in a long time.
Okay Frank; Thanks.
BTW, what guide are you using?
Dave, it looks like she's taking a bow. Beautiful shot!

Nice pics guys!
I'm having a heck of a problem w/ Doves having hard window stikes and killing themselves.
I have plenty of Window Alert stickers on the windows and they work great for all the other birds but not for the Mourning Doves who seemly take off w/ their eyes closed.
I've gotten over feeling really bad about it but almost wish they would not come around anymore.
Funny side note: Everytime this happens my parrot who's in that room and right near one of the windows very loudly and excitedly calls out "Whooooo"; kind of like Little Richard, lol.
Doves do the goofiest things, I'm really not surprised. Thank goodness we don't have that problem with them.
Aren't parrots a hoot? Ours come up with some funny noises, too, and sometimes it takes us a while to figure them out. Recently our macaw started imitating the neighbor's rooster.
Beautiful pics as always. Love those swans - they look so peaceful, but I've been stalked by one, so I know better! lol
LOL - looks like a flying turtle!
The UFO is not faked. It has wings and flew by me when I was on Kellog Beach.
adel- I don't think kaperk meant it that way. They were just making a joke(hence the LOL).
I know what this bird is but can't think of the name. I have a lot of domestic stuff I have to do right now so can't go searching until later. Hopefully someone else will come in w/ the answer soon! :-)
Brown Pelican? (The UFO, I mean. ;-> )
Deb
Pelican is what I'm thinking too....
Is this a female or juvenile pine warbler?
It's an adult, in post-breeding moult (that's why it looks rather tatty). A juvenile would have fresh plumage and look neat, not tatty.
UFO - yep, Brown Pelican, immature.

Nice pelican adel!
I hear you debilu, It's nice to work outside, but the birds and other identified flying critters distract me too.
DH lost it when I read your post pelle. Your parrot is a comedian.. whoohooo!
I get a dove hitting the window every day now, but so far no casualties
Love the close-up of the lil hummer frank!!
The lil hummer I had taking over the yard was getting bold, running every other hummer off... until the other day when a more mature RT came by and he chased him.. They both left, but the RT came back to rule the rest of the day.
Now he is learning to share.. Another one came by and perched near him in the corner tree, and he just sat there and allowed the other hummer to drink from all the flowers without batting a wing. Maybe they knew each other too, but at least he's sharing with someone.
On Vitex tree>
Pelle I knew kaperk was joking, I was just giving a hint and it looks like it worked, DebinSC and Sadie _Mae are right. It's a Brown Pelican.
