It's beginning to look like the tropics,5,wintering in!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh, you mean the Croton? I don't know yet.....she has lost nearly all her glorious leaves, but I am noticing new growth on the lower branches...so there is still hope. So sorry - completely unfamiliar with sapote....another name maybe?

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

We've got rain in our forecast, yippee! That will help dampen the fire season. But why does it always have to be on the weekends? Poor DH, he wants to work on his projects outside. :-( Have to get the weed suppressant spread before it starts!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Hope you get the rain K! Yeah, I know what you mean about the weekends! I always wanted to live in Camelot ♫♫ where it never rains till after sundown....by 6 am the morning dew has flown♫♫ wouldn't that be nice?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

yep, over a half inch, but strong winds came with it!!!
But it open the foliage up so I could find this tonite!!!

Thumbnail by Tropicman

That is beautiful....I guess 1/2 an inch is better than nothing.....the glasshouse is looking good!
I found baby fruit on my sapote....can't believe it .....now waiting to see if it comes to anything.....hope you all get some more rain everyone......:)

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

We got some rain a little while ago and we had strong winds all day. It appears to be still out there now. Not seeing trees moving.

I wish the rain had stayed though. We really need it. We have HUGE cracks in the ground and the lake is down quite a bit at work because of the lack of rain. They are watering everyday because the ground just sucks it right up and it don't stay soaked.

Well we had all those terrible things happening since 2001 really bad drought.....now this last winter ...floods! now I don't wish floods on you but I wish you lots of rain ....hopefully it will follow a similar pattern.....we had no stone fruit last season....or rather hardly any...but allowing for the wind....I see plenty of baby fruit on things ....I hope it will be the same for you and everybody.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Where I live I don't have to worry about flooding in the house. Not unless it rains like Texas. lol. But the road will have standing water cover the road all the way across if we get enough and our driveway and parts of the yard get it too. But we have to have enough. Not this time.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

We in Texas know more about droughts than we care to.......then since May of this year it has been too much rain.....at least all at once. Our city hasn't rationed but they have done as you say, Chrissy.....double at one point and triple at another.....doesn't take very much water at all to get into the double area. Many of the cities near us have rationing and are considering it as permanent. Some of the lakes that were built for water supply were totally dry in 2006.....now back to normal but it wouldn't take much to drain them again. However, the adminstrations of these cities continue to grant building permits and the housing developments are like mushrooms. Since men run the councils it seems they can't see the forest for the trees. ooooops. I am not a man basher but this is just a fact.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

We have the same problem here. What used to be small towns nearby are now small cities and I can't enjoy them anymore. They are taking down bluffs and building up flood zones. And tearing down nice areas to put in strip malls. Not too many people are happy around here.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

When it rains is one of the times I'm glad we live on a hill (there aren't many!), even though we're towards the bottom. DH worked real hard on the drainage to cure our low spots, so we don't have flooding problems. All the drainage from the top level goes to trees around the perimeter. Since we don't get much rain, at least they get a little extra when it comes.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

We have cured most of our drainage problems. Still a few bad spots but they have to stay that way. It's just the top and bottom that holds water for awhile.

We don't flood in our home as we are on a fairly high situation ...but the roads and the bridges flood out....you get bogged easily just going in and out of places. However there were people who lost homes and lives in June......in other areas in NSW....one family of 5 were just swallowed up by a gaping hole in a flooded rd.
Today I looked out the door to see the first fire in the mountains....it should be ok because we have had a lot of rain. Things are looking a bit battered outside but considering everything not too bad....
good luck to everyone because one thing is for sure the weather sure is playing up one way or the other!
But for now the sun is shining.....at a heat we can enjoy.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thanks, there saying might be more rain tomorrow, hope so!!!
Found another bud as well!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

wonderful, Don. What is the bud...don't recognize the plant.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

just like the flower above swamp lilly,or Crinum Americana.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh gosh.....now I'm going to have to find out how to get one of those.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Talk about strange coincidences! All of you are talking about floods...I just came back in from all the excitement outside. A water main exploded in my neighbors patio! Just whoosh! Broke right through the cement slab! Now the fire dept, and all the emergency crews are out trying to make sure the nearby houses don't flood....can't seem to get the water turned off - it has been flooding out this huge whole for half an hour or more! The alley is flooded, yards on all sides...I walked over to see if there was any damage next door to me and I was wading through ankle deep water - and it wasn't even close to us yet! One thing about a flat island....water spreads out quickly so doesn't "wall up". Ahhh - they just got it turned off. Now for the clean up!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh lordy ....it just started raining!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

LOL!!!
I guess that rain dance I did worked!!!!LOL

Sunday is the first day of Fall!!!!!

Have any sponges in the waters next to the island, would help soak up some of the flooding water!!!!LOL

Sorry couldn't help myself!!!!
Hope there wasn't too much damage from the broken pipes!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

So glad to provide a little humor! ☺ Our little coral island is amazing! My alley had a good 6 to 8 inches house to house just over an hour ago, and it is down to mere puddles now. All those sponges under the coral must just suck it right up! Unfortunately we have no water for who knows how long until they can fix it. They even warned us to fill buckets with the non-potable water incase that breaks while they are trying to repair the other! So much fun! Never a dull moment in our little Kwajical Kingdom!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Good one TM! How porous the island must be to absorb all that in a hour! Slab leaks are the worst, so difficult to repair - you might wonder how I know this, I'll leave it to your imagination. I am known by my brother as Mrs. Noah!

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

Happy Spring down in Oz, Crissy! What are your plans for this coming season? :)

-Joe G.

I am starting part 2 because part 1 is too long...so come on over and have a look when you have a moment....looks like the wind left some blossoms behind....come have a look
chrissy :)
Hey Tm I grew mine (the same as yours ....from big green seeds my grandchildren picked up......took 4 years to flower but they do every year now beautiful!

Oh dear Shari.....

Why you look younger than my kids!!!!!

Wonder who has the most grandkids here??
I have 23!!!!!

ha ha ha Your kids take vitamins too?.....I was married at 16 Tm
a mum at 17....way too young.... but it's great being a youngish nan....my eldest granddaughter is just turned 19 born on the 4th of July!...three other living grandsons (lost 1 at 6 months of age)....only had one child so I did alright didn't I ?...I wanted at least 5 but it was not possible.....so everyday I count my blessings so have 4 healthy happy grandchildren, wow twenty three...how on Earth do you keep up?.....oh I forgot ...all those vitamins! Well I guess I am waiting to be a great grandmother now....maybe even before I turn 60.

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

23 grandchildren - WOW! Any of them going to turn out to be gardeners after seeing Grandpa's beautiful gardens?

I bet they are all pretty special with a "pop"like Tm.....just think ...how it would feel.....I always remember my "pop" in the garden....growing the food for family and flowers for the soul......I think of him many times a day when I am in the garden....just as Tm's grandchildren will.......my eldest grandson loves to grow things and it makes me so very happy.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Boy, its a good thing I don't have that many! I'd constantly be forgetting their names! I have three and they are all so very special and wonderfull that I just can't imagine having so many! My heart would burst from all the love in it! But of course our hearst are constantly expanding to fill with all the love we can get and give . You are truly blessed Don!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

My grandma has 17 that I can think of right off my head.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Such big families!!!! Must be a blast at reunions...like Chrissy and all the different Nationalities...

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

You are so right, Shari. Never knew I could love another little one like we do the Great granddaughter.she is so precious. Every generation is smarter that the last.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

And remember how special you will be to her! My oldest daughter was lucky enough to have her great grandmother at her wedding! That sure doesn't happen very often! And those photos are treasured by everyone in the family!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

We still have MIL....that makes us 5 generations.....I believe that has been rare in the past but more and more of us are living to be 100+. Oh, please, not me.

Our family reuions aren't a blast usually but are fun. But only if everyone keeps their claws in. I hang out with the kids so I don't have to worry about it. Plus it's fun trying to keep them entertained without computers. lol

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

So sorry, Don. We are soooo far off subject. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.....and it is to die for. Superman, is doing the impossible and we are all praying for his continued success.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Xmas time is fun!!!!
Trying to remember who wants what!!!!!
But the hardest part is remembering the dates of all the birthdays!!!!
They like running thru the garden, and playing hide and seek, but no patience for gardening as of yet!!!
Technology is what they want, and they want it fast!!!!

Soon as they come in the garden room, straight to the computers!!!!
First it's a stop at the craft room refrigerator to get a pop, they don't get them to much at home SUGAR!!!!
Well I load them up on cookies and candy and pop, then send them home!!!!LOL

Then the the phone call, why did you do that?????

I tell them I told you someday I would get even with you!!!!LOL

But it's all in fun,and it isn't very often!!!!

Oh man almost 11pm 76* and sultry outside, just came back in from shutting the doors on the greenhouse, and sweating!!!!

Well heading to the showers!!!!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

You and my DH! Peas in a pod. He says its his job to spoil grandkids, and that it "pay-back time". Ha Ha. But the chaos is good fun isn't it?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

What's the use of having them if you can't spoil them? They are only young for so long! It's fun to have fun with them before they grow up. Time to make memories! Like growing pineapples and getting to eat it! Ours love the garden, and they are so much help! They love to plant things and watch them grow!
