North Texas Round-Up Food.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Charlene for offering to bring that wonderful beef---what a treat. I'm not a professional chef, but my friends and family think that I cook a good burger. I am really looking forward to grilling. I'll be honing my techniques by cooking on my grill at least once a week until RU.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Blue eyes I agree they would do wonderful if they had one around here but save a lot is close...I know when my daughter first moved to Texas she was in moved to college station and said they didn't' have an Aldi's there, but Walmart worked.

Charlene ....nana pudding sounds great ...back north we used cool whip on top but I know I am in Texas a whole other country in its self *giggles* and my boss made some for a party and put calf spit on it ....did ya know you can use a propane torch to brown it without putting it in the oven? and mmmmm homegrown beef the best.. do you raise and sell the beef?????

I think each person bringing their own place settings, drinks and a bag of chips would be good

collincouinty have you ever tried a mixture of salt, pepper, Lowry's seasoning salt and garlic then mix and make your patties that is good too ...try it some time

pbtxlady chocolate is a must of course I vote brownies for sure

boy to decide on what to bring ....with it being "fall" I could do apple slices, pumpkin pie squares, seven layer cookies (bars) munch mix (kids would enjoy that..but adults do to, apple dumplings, pumpkin pie, frosted banana bars, potato salad (mustard type= yellow)
hashbrown casserole, broccoli salad, bumper crop tomato salad, layered lettuce salad, kidney bean salad, puppy chow.......I think ti best if I wait and see what area needs filling in once everyone puts in that they think or want to bring....
but yes we know Bronc you LOVE Dessert lol

Oh and Carla sorry if you put on more then 5 pounds reading this post ....*smile*

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, yeah, Lowry's seasoning is awesome. I have used chopped up garlic, honey, soy, vinegar, and ginger as a steak marinade.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Hmmm maybe I'll bring a steak.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. guys this is what I have found out.

8.32 for 8 packs of hot dog buns 64 buns
8.32 for 8 packs of hamburger buns 64 buns
15.92 for 4 tubs of potato salad at 4 pounds each serves 64
24.96 for 2 boxes of frozen hamburger patties serves 64
16.96 3 packs of 24 hot dogs each 62 servings.
-------------
Total 74.48

If you guys are willing to pay $7.00 per member, not persons, instead of the original $5.00 this will cover the rental and this items I mentioned. If you agree I can purchase these things and bring them, so Richard can get the cooking done without a hustle.
I believe Richard is bringing the charcoal.

Then you guys can bring your own drinks, condiments, chips and sweets.
I plan to bring Ice, cups plates napkins and plasticware for everyone, and my own drinks as well. No alcohol is allowed.

Please let me know if you approve of this plan, I think it is the sensible thing to do.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sounds like a plan to me, a cook-out for an extra $2 bucks is worth it definately!

Do you want a list of what WE will bring here?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Sheila, that would be good. Then I will do a recap so we don't have too many repeats.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Alright I will start off....
I will bring a jar of hot dog relish, 6 sliced onions, fat free Lays chips, and a large mustard.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, I will bring a dessert (chocolate) and a fruit tray. If we need more chips when all is said and done, I'll be glad to throw those in too.

Josephine, all the plates, napkins etc. you're talking about bringing could get pretty expensive for that many people. Maybe more than one person should cover that. I dunno about everyone else, but I have teenagers here to eat all the time, so I keep disposable plates, cups and napkins on hand. I probably don't have enough for everyone. But if everyone brought what they already have, it might be enough that no one has to go out and BUY that stuff.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

That sounds really good to me. Easier than making the patties on site even if it means we don't get the chef's treatment in the mix he can sprinkle his special seasonings on the top.

I vote for bringing our disposable plates, napkins and own drinks, chips and desserts and paying the oringinal $5.00 plus $2.00. That will be a cheap meal and with such great company, you can't beat the deal!

Charlene

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll also bring ketchup and mustard.

Charlene

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sounds great to me as well! I will definitely bring a dessert of some kind.

Kim

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm still bringing the banana pudding Broncbuster, I know what sweets mean to you! LOL

And for the off sugar people, I'll bring a legal sweet dessert.

Charlene

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

After thinking about it, I agree, making patties on site would be a challenge (my 4yo daughter will be with me)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well it looks like we are getting it together the easy way, thank you very much Everybody. I think it will work out very well.
Josephine.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Wonderful Josephine - just sounds wonderful!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

collincountytx....just thinking about it almost makes me hungry ...to bad I cook all day for a living, but yeah everything you listed works great as a marinade.

An extra $2 is fine with me too.

I know I have paper plates, cups and napkins as that is what my son and I were using until my hubby got here with the dishes. lol

I'm still not sure who if anyone is coming with me but I will bring something to share with everyone..just have to decide what ..unless there was something I listed above that catches your eyes and you want me to bring.

Phyllis

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Sheila I should have stated that different what I meant to say is
I have extra if she wanted me to bring them to help out.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

is 2.00 going to cover the price of the meat for everyone? that sounds like too little. i will bring my own plates, drinks, condiments, chips and prob. some candy and gum for the kids. IT'S HALLOWEEN! OOPS.............fall festival.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

All Saints Day for me - but Halloween is more then fine, at school we still have the Halloween parade for the kids that are all dressed up.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mmmmmm are we gonna dress up???? hehehehehe
I used to dress up when I drove the school bus the kids and I had a blast

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I am going to dress in my New Dave's Garden shirt! I guess you all know about the link to Dave's store on Zazzle.com under "extras" tab?? If not check it out.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

No I had no idea there was a place I've been busy keeping up on posts about the plants I hadn't gone looking around much more
I am going over to check it out now thanks for mentioning it Sheila

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Frank and I will be wearing our Dave's Garden T Shirts too, but I bet the kids would love to dress up.
Josephine.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

You know everyone could bring a little game like ring toss or balloons to sit on or a hole with a face in it to hit with wet sponges. We could each bring a bag of candy and the kids could have a fall festival at the same time as our plant exchange. Bet next time they were asked if they wanted to stay with a sitter or go to the RU they would say RU!

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll bring the face!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Bronc you really don't want kids to hit you in the face with wet sponges do ya???...hehehehehehe
sorry couldn't' resist

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't mind! I figured my face would be better than any of the ladies with their makeup and their hair fixed. My daughter would probably like to throw a few anyways.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

a dunk tank would be better then ...lol

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Whoa, whoa, whoa!! Back the truck up! This cat don't swim!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

bronc, at 52 i will have no make-up on and i will try and remember to brush my hair the day of the round-up but i still don't want wet sponges thrown at my face. lol.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Ha ha!! :~D

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey guys, what with all the greeting, the cooking, the eating, the swapping, picture taking and door prizes, I doubt that we will have much time for much else, but some type of easy simple organized activity for the kids might be good.
I can't take care of that, but some of you who haven't taken on other duties might want to volunteer for that.
Maybe we can come up with some good simple ideas for the kids.
Josephine.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Is there a playground at this park, Frostweed?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, a very nice one, withing a short walk of the pavilion.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Bronch, here is a link to the park amenities.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

We don't need any extra activities for my daughter. She'll be bsy eating, playing on the playground, looking at the ducks, and entertaining us adults. My boy will be content just being held. Anyone like holding babies?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

sure can we spoil them too????

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh yes! Spoil away!
