Hello Everyone; I have been thinking how we can simplify the food at the swap and I have an idea.
I want you all to say what you think about it, and we will do according to what the majority wants.
I was thinking that bringing a lot of different dishes makes it difficult and confusing to handle.
Collincountytex, Richard, has very kindly offered to grill for us, so I was thinking that if we make it simple and have Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Potato salad, chips and some form of easy dessert like cookies or simple cake, it would eliminate a lot of the hustle, of so many different dishes.
Everyone can bring their own drink, and some of us living close by can bring the ice.
As of now the head count is 31 members and a total of 60 people, so we would need to have enough of every item.
What do you guys think?
Please vote yes or no the the plan, or tell us what you think, we can do it the usual way if you prefer it.
Your friend;
Josephine.
North Texas Round-Up Food.
Yes! Sounds like a perfect plan to me. Thanks, Richard, for offering to grill.
Patricia
Grilling and gardening are two of my favorite hobbies. I won't be spending much time trading (tiny yard), so this works out great for me. Looking forward to the RU.
Richard
This is perfect to me.
Sounds like a good plan to grill. Thanks for volunteering.
Grilling keeps me from having to locate an oven up there!
Sounds good to me!
I would never pass up a grilled hamburger! :-)
Thank you, Richard.
Carla
I missed the announcement of this thread I guess. I am all for the simple life. Thanks for the offer Richard!
Josephine, are we suppose to tell you here what we will bring?
I think once it is decided that we are adopting this plan, we will have to figure out who brings what, so we shall see when we hear from more people, then we will assign what to bring.
Josephine.
This sounds good to me!
Hey guys, we need a few more votes, Please.
Josephine.
Sounds good to me, too.
sounds like a plan to me
I think having the food done on site is great.
No worries about did someone's potato salad stay cold.
No worries about who is bringing what. We can all pay for the food and let one person buy it.
Or we could have a list assigned to bring the buns, chips, condiments and cookies. I think it would be easier to just pay one person though.
If one person gets all the stuff we would just divide the total by the number of people and everyone pay their part.
Bring your own drinks is good because of so many different types of drinks.
However anyone else wants to do it is fine with me. Just make it simple I say.
Charlene
yes, to grilling and any way you need to divide the cost of food, charcoal, etc. is fine with me.
I vote for dessert! Lots of dessert!!
Ahh a person after my own heart broncbuster lol
dessert & snack stuff I have alot of recipes for those....hehehehehe
I would almost bet you are one that would prefer to eat backwards...start with desserts then move on to the main stuff IF you have room
Frostweed ...umm do you guys have a place like Aldi's in Texas?
oh gee an d how to explain an Aldi's it is cheaper then Walmart not alot of name brand stuff but the breads are cheap there.
Anyway one person could get everything meat ,buns, chips, condiments....OR
Potato salad isn't hard to make so maybe a couple people could make that up using the same recipe that way there would be plenty of one type to go around
then divide things up as far as chips , buns desserts, etc
or those that want to bring food items could say so and those that don't could help with the costs of it to balance things out if needed...I know not everyone likes to cook or bake and others love it.
I"ll go with whatever is decided ..just thoughts in my head this morning on it. *S*
Phyllis
Phyllis, I love to eat dessert first, then the main course, then more dessert! MMM Potato salad! I'm with Phyllis, let whoever wants to bring a dish bring a dish, and whoever doesn't can help with costs. I just wouldn't want to miss out on any delicious food. Just to remind everyone, I LOVE DESSERT!!
Knowing this bunch, I doubt if skipping dessert was even an option! lol
Phyllis, moving here I was very surprised not to find an Aldi's or something like that down here. Especially in a college town. I would think they could do a world of business.
Kim
You could try to find a Mrs. Baird's thrift store for breads. I was so sad to see the one in Waxahachie shut down)~:
In Arlington we have a store called Save a Lot and some things cost less but not everything.
Okay then put me down for the old big yellow pyrex bowl full of homemade banana pudding calf slobber included (for those who don't know what calf slobber is, it is meringue). DH thinks a picnic is not a picnic w/o it.
For anyone off of sugar, I'll make a sugar free dessert.
You know Wal-mart has potato salad in 1gal cartons and it is really good. They have a choice of white or yellow.
MMM.... nanner puddin'!!
I have gained 5 pounds just reading this thread ..... :-) ha!
Carla
O.K. Guys, let me do some investigating on prices and we will see what we can do.
Josephine.
I'll bring charcoal, grill equipment (spatula and BBQ fork), and about 25 H.National Hdogs and buns.
Other things that would be good.
Ketchup, relish, mustard, mayo, BBQ sauce or A1, salt/pepper
More hot dogs
If people want burgers---ground beef and buns
Paper plates, knives, forks, napkins
Anything else people might want to cook on the grill
smores (graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows)
chicken, fish, etc
We'll bring Miracle Whip(~;
We'll also bring a cobbler of some sort and maybe a strawberry cake.
I'll also bring some aluminum foil and three of those big aluminum basting pans (the ones you put the ham in for Thanksgiving)
MMM....ham.....
I'd like to bring something chocolate... brownies or something...
Richard, you are very generous, but i think you are trying to do too much, don't forget there will be over 60 people, and meat can be expensive, let me check around about prices of hamburger patties and hot dogs, and then we can see how we want to pay for it.
Josephine.
No problem, my kids love Hot dogs and I buy them all the time.
I'll bring the charcoal, 25 or so hdogs, and 25 or so buns.
Others can sign up for stuff like additional hdogs, buns, burger meat, sausages, plates, napkins/paper towels, soda, etc....
I'll bring ketchup and mustard. Put me down for 5 lbs of ground home raised beef (that's the angus part by the way) LOL 5 lbs of this makes 20 nice patties.
I would think each family should bring paper plates, and paper napkins or paper towels and maybe their favorite chips along with their drinks. Whadya think?
collincountytx Do you prefer me to make the patties up at home or do you have a special seasoning or certain way of doing it?
I'll bring a bowl for mixing. I usually use pepper, steak rub/seasoning), A1 vs Worchester sauce +/- a little soy sauce--oops my secret ingredient. I'm anticipating kiddos, so I'll season with them in mind----I'll likely just use salt, pepper, and A1. Let me know what you think.
What I think is you are probably a good cook and you know best! Sounds delish!
so is this the thread or are we going to have a brand new thread as a sign up sheet? am i bringing something or am i reimbursing someone? either way is good for me.
I think we are still just voting on what kind of meal we want to have. LOL
