jannich........one amazing grower and giver
I threw this in for fun................i thought my episcias were doing terrible............Malaysian Ruby is getting ready to bloom the most beautiful color with this foliage............to die for............take care of them, GAil!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can see that i don't have many cuttings except that Pink Silver that is giant....................the others i can cut on go to Lin...............
But if anyone wants any of these plus the not seen variegated Hindu rope..............the 4" rooted pots of all of them are 5.00 and nice size....................the small baskets are 9.95 and i can't ship the big ones that are 19.95 because there isn't a box big enough for them.................she is rooting a lot of different ones right now............including the string bean one that won best hoya in 2005..................
If you want any of them..............already rooted i will be happy to go get them and ship to you but you have to pay for them................ok.............
Your right Gail, they are beautiful healthy hoya plants!! I'm fairly new to these myself but I know the names that you have mixed around on a couple of them so I'm going to start at the top with your pictures...
#1. Pink Silver...the flower picture on that one was gorgeous, I can see why Rain is after it.....
#2. Hoya polyneura or Fishtail...if you look at the leaves you can see that they look like a fishes tail, even the coloring!
#3. Hoya Mulitflora or Shooting Stars, when you see the blooms you'll know why this one is Shooting Stars!!
#4. I'm not familiar with this cross so I'm sure your right on the name combo
#5.Hoya Kerri
#6. Hoya Australis
#7.Krinkle 8
#8.I'm not sure what this one is but a compacta is the official name for a hindu rope hoya and the leaves don't look curled enough on this plant. I've seen the variegated hindu rope or compacta and the leaves were much tighter.....but this could just be a looser version of it...so I'm not saying for sure what it is!!
#9.Hoya Carnosa Krimson Princess....on Krimson Princess the white is in the middle with the grass green coloring on the edges.............. There is one called Krimson Queen that is the opposite, white on the outside edges and a darker green in the center
I hope this was a help and didn't confuse you more!! Here is a picture of my Shooting Stars Hoya, it was small and it bloomed fast for me! They are known for being fast bloomers so they are satisfying! LOL

thanks Brenda..........the unseen one is exactly like your picture only it is variegated.............I will make my list from what you have said.............thanks so much.............it is called variegated Hindu rope...............I don't have that one right now..........but the nursery does.........
Oh my! I'm finally getting a chance to check back on this thread! Wow! I am LOVING the Sinningia's!!! I want more! S. 'Makenzie' is sooo pretty .... and I really, really Love that little one with the big flowers Rain ....' Ruffled Wood Nymph' .... gotta write down those names!
Ok .... now I gotta check out the rest of the thread that I missed. I know I saw many Hoya pic's! Back with comments soon!
Brenda: You will Love that mini Sinningia 'pusilla'! Rain sent me one in a trade and it is just the most adorable little thing ... and spreading like she said! Mine is in a teeny little wine type glass and I just stuck a little plastic lid over the top ... the lid is actually a little plastic cup from liquid laundry detergent! Anyhow, you will love this plant ... the prettiest little flower!
That is a nice glass apothecary jar you found at the thrift store! It will make a great terrarium!
ok .... back to reading!
Ooooh Gail! I love all of those Hoya's! As you know, I have a few already but have been looking for Pink Silver, Polyneura Fish Tail, Mutiflora Shooting Star and Kerri!!!
If you get back to that nursery and they still have the 4" pots @ $5.00, please pick them up for me and I will reimburse you the price plus shipping of course! Wow! That is a great deal!
Those are all Beautiful Hoya's!
thanks Lin...............now you will have a lot..........as i can take cuttings of Pink Silver, Fishtail, Shooting Star ................and i will get you Kerri..................how many 4" pots do yu want of Kerri.................I am giving the first Kerri with your box anyway...........but do you want 3 to have a full basket????????(of kerri)
I went and took a picture of a new hoya that I received in the mail yesterday because it reminds me of the #8 picture with a little bit of curl to the leaves and the variegation. This one of mine is called Holliana and it says it is a dwarf Hoya Carnosa. You can tell by my fingers in the picture how small the leaves are.....could this possibly be what you have there Gail or are the leaves on your much bigger than this???
~Brenda

Oh no Gail ... I didn't mean for you to have to take cuttings from yours. If you can just get me a 4" pots of each of those I mentioned above that would be plenty! I think that's a very reasonable price at $5 each. But, don't make a special trip ...... just wait until you have to go to town again for something!
There's one called Hoya bella/ mini wax leaf that I bought about a year ago but it hasn't bloomed yet and doesn't look real happy.
So many of these Beauties in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=hoya&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search Oh .... to have one of each would be wonderful!
Brenda...........whatever that is ..........is exactly like my 6" pot that has had a haircut...........
mine is definitely a compacta...............with foliage just like that one............good , now I have a name.........
Lin, I will only buy the ones i don't have.................mine have very long cuttings...........not a problem.................I will get back to you ..........................these are the ones I would need to buy at 5.00 a pop.....................variegated Hindu rope, Hoya australis, Hoya kerri, or crinkle 8.............I have plenty of cuttings from the rest of them.......................you decide which of these you want to buy.............................the rest of them i have plenty of cuttings from........shooting star, fishtail, Pink Silver and i can't remember................remember I have lots of Pink silver.........am taking cuttings off the entire plant.............as I have another big one that has already bloomed..................
Oh goody, I recognized a new one. So #8 is Holliana, dwarf hoya carnosa.
Compacta and Hindu Rope are the same thing....official name and then common name.
Thanks for that link Lin, it would be wonderful to own all of those! There is such a huge variety, it's amazing. I like the thick heavier leaves the most but I have a couple of the thinner leaved ones that are very pretty too!
This is one called H. Blashernazie that is going to bloom any day now, at least I'm hoping it will open up soon!! The blooms are yellow! These buds look like little drops of pure butter right now. LOL
~Brenda
she is gorgeous.................does she have a common name.........I think this lady her is propagating this one...............
****edited to say she is (after looking at the plant files) is propagating Hoya shepherdii or stringbean ........................

I call her "Blash" LOL but really I have no idea if there is another name or common name for it. Carol from HI posted a picture of the blooms on the hoya forum and I fell for the yellow face first and ordered it! And it came a little over two weeks ago and it had a peduncle on it!! I was so thrilled.....so now I'm on bloom watch!
Here's a close up from today, I'm in love!! LOL........She is small and the peduncle is at the end of the new growth so I can't take cuttings, but she'll branch out someday and then I will!
~Brenda
Here is a link to the picture that had me getting my check book out! I'm hoping mine will be as pretty when she opens up!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3791537
Look at y'all!! I leave for a few hours and you have a HOYAFEST!!! No fair! LOL They are all so gorgeous!
I got some Hoyas in a trade box today, and rumor has it I should be expecting another box in a day or two. ;o) The ones from today are soaking in the kitchen sink. The leaves of one of them are spectacular! They're all really great, but that one is out of this world. :o) I'll post pictures of them when they're potted up.
Gail, I would really love to have some of those you posted, especially Pink Silver and Shooting Stars. Let me see what I spend over the weekend at the Gessie show. If pickins are slim there and I have some money left, I might get you to pick up a couple rooted pots for me. Otherwise, I'll see if I can tempt you for some cuttings. :o)
Lin, I am so glad that S. pusilla is doing well for you! Do you have seedlings from it yet?
Brenda, I'll make certain to send that one to you. I figured out a different way to ship it that I am hoping is a good method. The box it's in should arrive at its destination tomorrow, so I'm anxious to hear how it traveled.
let me hear back from you Rain................
Trust me, you will. LOL I don't want to commit to having you buy those for me until I see what's at the Gessie show. They're still my first love, you know. But if they don't have much, or if I don't buy much for some other reason, I'll see about having you pick up Pink Silver and Shooting Stars for me. Thank you so much for being willing to do that for us!! :o) Hugs to you!
You don't have to buy either one of those.........big baskets I have with many cuttings............
Ok Gail .... :) Here's my order: LOL
I would love whatever cuttings you can spare from yours and the following from the nursery:
1 - 4" potted Kerii:
1 - 4" pot String Bean Hoya: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57795/
1 - 4" pot H. blashernazie (like bmedel shows above) or any yellow flowering one
1 - 4" pot of any other interesting one she might have
Please let me know what you are looking for Gail! I owe you big time (as usual!)
Had no idea a lot of y'all were getting interested in Hoya's!
You certainly will not owe me a dime...............you are the only person on DG who tears up their own plants to send rooted cuttings...............don't do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one else tears up their plants.............people can root their own cuttings unless they say they can't for some reason.......................I know that she doesn't have the String Bean Hoya or the Bella hoya ready.......but will in a month or so............
Dont yu even think of saying you owe me............i have your rooted cuttings bigger than hers in my kitchen right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Gail .... I don't tear up my plants! I divide and repot plants probably 8 months of the year! Things get soooo root bound that I have to divide them or I'm afraid they would die! I have had some that are so root bound that roots are splitting the plastic pots and growing out the bottoms! And, I've had a few where there is absolutely no soil to amount to anything left in the pots .... all roots! I always have extra pots of lots of my plants! My friend and one of my neighbors saves plastic pots for me because I use so many!
Gail, you have to be one of the sweetest, most generous people I've ever known! You have a heart of gold. I've never even met you, but can tell just from our written conversations, if we lived near each other, we would be very good friends! You are a Blessing to so many!
My goodness .............Lin.........that was kind of you but please let me tell you the other side of me.........this is real funny............hope this little story meets DG approval.............
For several weeks I had been getting these controversial political emails from all my family and friends..............just to stir up action, I would always take the opposite side and argue away.............
Well, Sunday morning in Sunday School...........our lesson was from 2nd Timothy.............when it was read aloud, I know my face had to be red when i said, "Oh no.............I can't even get to fight with my family about politics"..............."this isn't going to be any fun".................I am going to quote just a few verses so i can finish this story........."Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful"..................
So of course the emails continued and on each one i said.............."I don't get to play and fight anymore.................so sorry i can't stir the pot anymore.....I made the mistake of going to Sunday School this week"...............all my friends and family have challenged me to see if they can provoke me enough to argue again..............
Gail you are hilarious, telling that story on yourself!! LOL And despite the story you told I ditto Lin's comments!!!
I was coming back to show another picture I didn't know if you all had seen yet but I got sidetracked with you two! :)))
I happened to join DG just in time to get myself in on the hoya co-op order that was happening at the end of May. and despite the fact that I knew NOTHING about hoyas except that I owned one gifted to me by my aunt I signed myself up!
I went for the leaves I liked the best never dreaming I would see a bloom any time soon but two of my cuttings came with peduncles on them and within a couple of months of potting up those cuttings they bloomed!! It was awesome!!
And after seeing this I wanted more!!!! H Finlaysonii....the blooms only lasted two days but they were amazing!

you are an amazing grower yourself..............when you came to dG............we thought you were a newbie and you weren't.......................that is so pretty................i love them...........
Hah, I'm a total newbie with some beginners luck!!
Good news on this H finlaysonii is that I tried my had at rooting some leaves with a bit of stem attached and I am just starting to see some new growth on that batch, so when they get a bit bigger (could take the whole winter!!!) I'm going to be sharing with you all right here...Gail, Lin, and Rain..... and Snowrose too because I think she'd like it but isn't here to comment with her computer down! :)))
So now you all have to be "rooting" for me to succeed with these starts!! LOL
Here is a picture of the original leaves I put down, 5 of them are left and just starting to poke up the tiniest of new growth! I'm learning that I should have done a few things differently with them but for a newbie I'm happy to see any results!! And since official names of these are important I will say that the label that came with them said sp aff finlaysonii
~Brenda
Brenda, I am assuming you have that pot under glass of some kind............cake top or something?????????????
Good luck................everyone does things differently but soil-less mix I have trouble with except with cuttings...........on leaves i have better luck with perlite and vermiculite......but it sure looks like it is working great.................
Gail: I love that story! I guess the Lord just felt you had to go to Sunday School that day to hear that lesson. It is so easy sometimes to get "pulled in" to foolish arguments. We all need to hear that lesson at times, at least I know I do!
Brenda .... that is so generous of you. If you get babies from any of your Hoya's maybe we can do a trade in the spring! That Finlasonii is gorgeous ... love those leaves. And, great growing on those leaves you put down! Seeing growth already? Amazing ... you do have a green thumb!
I just love to needle my family with these emails..................they come from both sides of the aisle ....................I will have to find my entertainment another way..................(LOL)
Gail, you know you're bad when the Lord puts it in the preacher's heart to have a sermon specifically about YOU!! LOL You're too funny!
Ah Lin, what a difficult life it must be, being forced to divide all those plants because they grow so darn much. That's so much work for you - perhaps you should just ship those unruly plants to me. It would save you so much work!! ;o)
Brenda, finlaysonii is gorgeous! I love those leaves! :o) Isn't it nice to have plants with leaves so pretty that you don't even care if it blooms or not? The blooms are beautiful, though. Is that one fragrant?
Maybe you can help me with a question, too... Can I grow Hoyas on my light stand along with the Gessies, or would that be too much light for them? During the warm and mild seasons, I can put them in my east window, but in cold weather it would be too drafty for them there. Actually, it would be too cold for them anywhere except in my living room, and window space is at a premium in here. There's really only one west window that I could put them in and it's not big enough for the ones I have right now. I'm almost certain I've seen people growing Hoyas on a light stand, but don't have any idea of how much light they're giving them. Guess it's time for some research...
Here's some info on different light conditions for different Hoyas:
http://www.bigislandgrowers.com/ghp/AHtips.php
Thanks for that link, Lin! Good info there. :o) I did some searching and reading in the Hoya forum, and it seems that some people that grow them under lights. It will be a matter of trial and error more than anything I guess.
Beautiful Hoyas everyone. You sure can grow them well.I have quite a few but after reading this thread I find there are many more I want! LOL .I do actually have my very 1st bloom ever this week...so I am dancing round about that.I smelled it before I saw it..lol..couldn't figure out what smelled so good over by one of my stands.Looked down and there it was,I almost fainted! LOL Lin,I believe it was you who sent me Lancunosa(not sure of the spelling) this spring? Thank you!! I loved it then but I love it more now.hee hee.Ok here is a pic of my bloom : ))
Very, very nice Hoyas. I've only ever had one Hoya and seems like I remember having a hard time getting it to bloom. But.......that Shooting Stars is so pretty. I might just have to try that one. Is it a trailer or does it stay bushy? How much light does it need...will it do well on the light stands or in a window?
Nancy, wow, what a nice bloom so quickly.................good growing Lin.....................
Susan................Plantladylin posted a site for light info on hoyas above.............
