It's beginning to look like the tropics..(Chapter 4)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Tman, just where do you get so many decoys......such as an absolutely frightening snake.

Fool me once, shame on you.....fool me twice, shame on me.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. Didn't fool me. I knew better this time.

Nah I knew it was a fake snake.... we use them to scare the birds out of the fig trees......do you get bats?
The first time it scared me to bits...but now I am used to them landing in the big Jacaranda tree near my bedroom window....when you turn the light on ....you get hundreds of pairs of little red eyes looking towards you (The balcony light is right by the window) scary the first time, but ok now....besides they only eat the fruit I can't reach and they do donate an exotic plant in their droppings here and there. In QLD they have vampire bats...these bats cut a slit in the animals throat area and lap up the blood like a cat laps up the milk in a saucer....up there ....they have flys that make you bleed so they can suck on the blood ......all in all between that and those cane toads... crocs in some places and agro ants I am glad to live in NSW.
Our EE's are the Alocasias (sweet fingers) and they are beautiful!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

LOL! Can't fool a fooler!!!LOL
I picked some up at walmart some at our local zoo.can't have a rainforest without the bugs and animals that go with it!!!!!
I think the beehive is starting to turn red!!!

Tman and Tropicanna and Chrissy...WOW...great gardens/plants/photos!!!! Your energy overwhelms me!!!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Thats a nice compliment, especially coming from the master!!!

You lead we follow!

I think you are all brilliant!....yes that ginger is blushing alright!

How is this for a good laugh....big storm and high winds on the way so I go out into the "jungle" to collect the seeds before they are trashed....gonna sent some off to some ozzys on the oz forum....well it is pretty scary in there.... but in I went....the mandavilla laxa had already dropped (darn!)but I managed quite a few snail creeper seeds....gotta be careful cause they explode and scatter...I got quite a few.Next I figured the china doll will make lots of little indoor plants for some ......so I tried to reach up to some of the lower pods but no luck ...any way get the garden rake and pull down the lowest branch and stand on tip toes ...not easy
in the jungle... managed to grab a handful of the long pods...(happy me)....they shattered all over me ....in the hundreds!!!! or more!.....no wonder they pop up everywhere!.....anyway I was really upset to have lost them ...until I looked down on a shrub below where I was standing!!!!!! a huge spider web had caught at least 200/300 of the papery seeds......so sorry Mr Spider but....(luckily he was out to lunch). So after coming inside I have spent the last hour taking the seeds out of my hair and knitted top and a big sticky web.....at the top of that china doll are dozens of those long pods just waiting to explode in the next storm.....oh dear....is that the sound of thunder?

Listen to the rythme of the falling rain ......telling me just what a fool I've been .......

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

And little did you know when you collected seeds that day, along would come the rain!!!!

You know as you were describing everything I was seeing it in my mind, you reaching with the garden rake!!!LOL

I wanted to ask you I watched a show about your painted desert, why are there so many flies in the desert ????

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Boy, I'm busy for a day, and you characters take off with the pictures, and stories and wow! Such great gardens all of you! Chrissy - my daughter was lurking and is so envious of all your fruit trees! She was going nutzo! (new phrase for our "different thread") TM - Sir you have my utmost respect. I can't imagine going through all that every year! Don't sprain anything, please! Such great pictures all of you! EE lovers unite! John will be back with us in a while....had some theft at his place that left him too angry to post anything...sends his greetings and will be back with us soon.

Oh no.....has he been burgled???.....give him a hug won't you ..from us.......soooo sorry to hear that!

Shari give your daughter a hug from a mad gumbooted.... seed and spider webbed hairdo wearing sheila in cold windy and wet !!!
Sydney Australia!

PS the big man is having a ball so far!...you know the one that landed here with 700 people last night :)

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Wow,there is a lot of that going on here, people just walk into your home, beat you up and take what ever they want,it has happened around here recently,I live in a neighbor hood of elderly people.

Just saw the big man on tv,looks like he's having a good time!!!! And a boat ride to boot!

Shari,glad your back,we missed you!!!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Tropicman, pretty lemons. You have got to be using chemical fert for eveything to be so big. Totally nice though.

AlohaHoya--*BLUSH* Thanks so much for the wonderful compliment :)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Don't want John to loose anything but most especially the cameras. Shari, missing the undersea adventures. Has JB done anything lately? We have started the Fall the same way Spring and Summer began......with moonsoons. This is so out of character that no one knows what we should be doing in the garden.....if you could wade into it. Dug about 40 liatris yesterday and was gonna replant today.....guess not.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Okay....I give up. Who is "the big man"???

Christi - so sorry about the flooding! Why is it always extremes of one way or the other? A little rain, a little sun yadda yadda , not so much to ask for is it? Don't mess around in the mud - easy way to twist ankles and such.

JB has some new pics that we are resizing and stuff...but I have some others to post as well. John had some garden equipment stolen - and they were very careful - no damage and no sign of the theft till he went looking. It is infuriating I know, but I hope he will be in a more posting mood, so he can give details himself, and maybe give us a pic or too.
You guys play nice in your beautiful gardens...TM - son really a $$$ ??? Wowzzzers! Congratulations!!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Funny.....we did it again. I have been asking for pictures on another thread while you are talking about them here.

Big man is none other than GW "Dubya"B #43. Making a trip around the world this week.

We had over 5 inches of rain at my house last night. The community 1/2 mile from us measure over 8 inches and the "creeks" everywhere were waaaay out of their banks again.
Over the freeway and lots of feeder roads flooded. Some homes for the 3rd time in 4 months. More expected everyday this week. We have a leak in our family room but I think it is because it was coming so hard and fast it couldn't run off the roof fast enough.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh kiddo! Be careful driving in that, and I sure hope the leak wasn't bad. Gotta keep my mouth shut re: 43....gets me in hot water every time...so I will be good. Yep...one more example of great minds and all that (talking bout you and me....NOT #43!!!)...

Raining cats and dogs out here at my place too.....I couldn't wait for lessons folks.... so I did the camera thing myself..... I hope you don't mind me showing you some lousy pics (I have only done it twice in my whole life....hubby does that for us usually ......but I was too impatient)....so in between the rain and bearing in mind the camera is an animal I know nothing about ......no focus...I don't know how in this camera thingy....I just pointed at clicked. Welcome to a grey Spring Day in rural Australia...(I will get better after lessons...the Winter damage is a bit sad.)

It is hard to imagine a tropical garden here isn't it?

OMG, Chrissy. We built two arbors specifically to hold the wisteria. We have so much rain this spring and summer...and now fall....that everyone is moaning about their flower gardens. Seems that too much rain is equal to not enough rain.

Shari, another twin feeling with regards to #43. Terri already had to delete me and tell me naughty, naughty so......

Well the front yard is very exposed to severe cold winds in the Winter and Harsh burning wind in the Summer....we look out onto the Blue Mountains.

Thumbnail by

LouC wisteria eats the house LOL....now I am the only gardener and because I have been caring for a very sick relative who has passed on recently (Bless her )...the garden is run down ....but still hanging in there despite drought water restrictions and the "freeze" and now floods ha ha ha ....oh well

The last one showed the early persimmons leafing out and the male she oak about to drop his red pollen .Please ignore triffid weeds and long grass *blushing*

Chrissy - so fun to finally see your place! Sometimes gray days, are good days for pics, because the sun doesn't glare the colors. Never thought of oaks as he or she...cute. Such great trees.....looking forward to many more!

ok heading around to the back past the red bottlebrush ...they are all covered in buds
