I don't know what the problem is with my computer this morning. Even knowing that Dial-Up is very slow, this morning is just awful. Can't get Skip to New to work at all, and everything is extremely slow so I am giving up and going outside to do stuff!!!!!! in my garden.

Crazy computer
Donna, when this happens you should just reboot - Start -> Shut Down (or Turn Off) -> Restart
It's like cleaning an air filter - sort of. HTH.
Mary's got a good suggestion, that often works well for me when I'm having problems. The site seems to be running fine here, my guess is it's either something with your computer or your internet provider, not something with DG.
DG was really slow for me as well at about the time you posted, rutholive. I was dmailing with a friend and she commented on how slow it was for her, too. I went back and checked the time, and it was just a few minutes after you posted this that we each mentioned the slow-down. It only lasted 15 minutes or so and has been back to normal since.
Ah, something going on with the website then. If Dave does some work on a server, he may move the site to a backup server that's not as strong. Good catch RainGazer - Good thing you don't live here - no rain to gaze at.
Yes. It seems to be MUCH better now
Mary, there's none to gaze at here, either. I miss our summer afternoon rainshowers. :o(
Hah! I just got the DG newsletter sent at 7:31 PDT. Bet that put a big drain on the server for a while.
My newsletter arrived at 9:33 this morning while the site was extremely sluggish for me. The same thing happened when the newletter was being sent last week. Both times I got tired of trying to open threads and checked my e-mail before taking a break. Within a few minutes, speed was back to normal without my rebooting.
I have been slow off and on all weekend. Just contributed it to more members on-line for the holiday weekend.
Ah Ha! The Newsletter - of course. What a great bunch of detectives we are!
I got busy and never got back to the computer until this morning. Everything seems to be normal for Dial Up. Usually what i do is reboot, but didn't think to do that yesterday. Thanks for all the posts.
Donna
Why are you guys still using dial-up? I thought it sunk with Noah's Ark.

Some people may live places where you can't easily get high speed, or may not be able to get it for as low a price as dialup (I kept dialup for a long time because I was getting service for $8/month, and even the cheapest high speed deals were more than that!). Or maybe some people have older computers which won't support high speed at all or you'd have to buy a bunch of extra equipment in order to use it.
I have both an older computer and dial up. No high speed service in the sticks anyway. I know I am behind in times, but it is ok with me. Life is just a little slower here, and I can keep up with it fine. Ü
ecrane3 is right, high speed connections are not yet out to rural areas and lots of our gardeners live remotely.....which I am lusting to do. We are very urban/metropolitan right now and not particularly happy about it, except there is employment and affordable housing. Five more years for us and I'll probably end up back with dial up!!!
This is a very remote area and no high speed available. I like the area but sometimes wish for a few better amenitys (thats the way my dictionary spells it). So guess i have to put up with Dial-Up. There is fair housing available but not good employment. But I own my house and I have been retired for many years. The climate tho very dry is much better than a lot of other locations.

I'm out in the sticks, too .... and love it that way!!
Of course, I have to share the phone with the family, and that's not always great!
