"Receiving is just about as good as giving"
That epi sure is pretty and huge! I can see why she's happy, growing all those beautiful plants. :o)
Lin, that red dragon flower you sent me is a huernia, isn't it? It has buds! :o)
Yep ... Huernia sch something or other!
I couldn't find it when I looked under huernia but found it when I did a search for Red Dragon Flower! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/61056/
The very first huernia listed in PF: h pillansii shows two photos by IslandJim that are actually photos of the H. schneideriana

Me too ... I have some dividing and potting to do! Been talking about it for two weeks and I AM going to do some now!
Holy smoke,What a wonderful trade box! Love the monolena primulaeflora.Harmony's Little Stinker is to die for. I've never seen leaf colors like that! Beautiful. What do you call it ?
I saw (Gail and Lin )talking about a road trip to Logee's,All I can saw ladies is GO.Go.Go. LOL...I grew up in that area and been to Logee's many times.Look at this thread from last year:) I love tropicals!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/623968/
The brug in this picture(just starting to bloom its first flush for me) comes from Logees. There Mom brug. is growing right in the middle of one of there greenhouses. It's like 10 feet tall,Amazing
Your brug is beautiful, jannich! That photo tour through Logee's was so nice to see. I would love to go there and hand pick plants. Seven greenhouses. What a time that would be. I just got a catalog from them and saw some things I would love to have.
Thank you, jannich sooooooooo much..................I am starting to work on Begonias..............glad to know you like them so much.................
I have "ants in my pants" about having to wait to start a chimera baby factory.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has to be a blessing that my own children are grown and gone............don't think they would get home cooked meals any more......................
Wow! I have for years loved the photo's in Logee's catalogs (I just got a new one a couple of weeks ago too) .... and oh, how I would love to be able to visit that place in person! I just know by the time I got out of there, I'd be very broke, but very happy!
Thank you Jannich for that link and those wonderful photo's you took! I love that Chenille Plant in the third post down and Oh, that Hibiscus is sooo Gorgeous! And, those Streps and those Vines and the Hoya and the Allamanda Vine .... Well, they are all Wonderful!
Thanks for the virtual "trip" to Logee's! Now I'm going to look at my catalog again!
:)
Thank you.I will have plenty of cuttings to share in a little while. That brug is almost 6 feet tall this year. The second blooming will be the good one,(I hope with the dought this year I don't know) Last year it had like 31 blooms at the same time!
It's truly amazing place Snow..I go there every time I go up there to see son! Just got the book too there prices have really skyrocketed up since the parents are gone.
Hi there Gail,I love the begonias but can't grow them for some reason. The one I bought at Logees was quick to die.lol.Whats the secert??
The rex begonias I am struggling with.................but in this trade with snow where she grew them by leaf............she says she wicks hers.............
Tomorrow will be begonia day here at my house..............going to take a lot of cuttings of ones I have neglected all summer out on the porch..................and then I am going to take all the rex and wick them...............don't know.............I can grow cane begonias all day long but just learning about the rex.......
I just learned that you can grow the rex from a leaf!!!!!!!! want to try that also.............that man in Boerne has so many rexes he told me............but i don't see how I am going to get up there before the state convention in November.............
She is gorgeous...................now don't say we have all the nurseries...........you couldn't find a cane begonia in any of our nurseries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is a really nice one for less than 5.00...................envy setting in quickly.................
I was stunned to see this at Home Depot ... I never find cane begonias at our garden centers. There were only 3 of them ... I should have bought all 3 at that price!
Wonderful new additions to your ever increasing collection Gail!!
Nice find with the begonia Lin...my HD has decided they aren't going to have houseplants anymore :( ..........didn't know they could do that...
Oh, Wow ... no houseplants at HD??? I would have to find the manager and ask "What are you thinking"??? I assumed HD's up north closes the gardening centers for winter but Wow, not carrying houseplants at all??!! That's sooooo sad!
$3.97! You must be kidding. Such a pretty and full plant.
Jan...I know what you mean about the high prices. Has anyone ordered from them? What has been your experience?
One of our Home Depots has closed it's houseplant section down also. I don't even bother to shop there at all anymore for anything. The one closest to me might as well shut it down as what they have who would want. It's pitiful.
jannich told me that she is having to stock up right now on av soil-less mix, perlite, etc............(and she is in Alabama) because they close the gardening center soon until next spring or summer....................her closest other town is 70 miles away.............(with gardening things I should have said)
If I were 70 miles away from gardening items, I would just have to take a bed down and tell my company to please sleep on the floor(LOL)
I must be able to find a picture for every post...................giggling by now.........
This is a 2" semi miniature........no name..........
Oh, Snow............I have Peridots Kitlope............she has already bloomed................just noticed that Peridots Potlatch is trying to bloom................
Kitlope has prettier colors.........
Snow..............you have the prettiest flowers of all............share any of them with us..........
So that's Potlatch? I have a rhizome planted but am glad to see your blossom photo of it.
As far as plants and flowers go, I wish I had a lot more.
I just typed a big long reply, clicked a picture and now it's gone. Grrr... Here's the short version...
Jan, that Brug is gorgeous and I bet it smells heavenly!
Lin, Sinbad is beautiful! Don't you just love a good find like that?
Snow and Gail, those Kohlerias are simply beautiful! Love the dark foliage on them! :o)
Snow, that's funny, because I wish I had a lot more plants and flowers, too! I think it's an addiction... ;o)
Several vendors have indicated they will have more selections next year................of the smooth foliage.........
Of the Kohlerias, Gail? Yay! I'm enjoying growing the two I've got so much, but I think once 'Nicole's Smile' blooms I'm going to NEED more of them!!! LOL The colors of both the blooms and the foliage of those plants are just amazing! I love them!
I don't want to mislead you but the Peridots are mighty hard to find..............but I have a lot of others where the blooms are just as pretty.............it is just the foliage on the Peridots are so smooth, dark and pretty...............
I don't know that I've seen many of the Peridot's, but the two you and Snow posted pictures of are so pretty. I'll have to go search for pictures of others so I can see the foliage on those, too. :o)
Those are the only 2 that I have been able to find for the last 8 months...........
I should stay away from this place! Aaaaaargh ... now I'm wanting to grow Kohleria's!!
Snow, you are just sooooo creative...........I got some in a trade and didn't realize I have lots of it outside................I will be copying exactly what you have done............sorry, but that is what happens when you are good at something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Outstanding.............another day and another project.............so she will grow in water just like pothos or syngonium????????
Oohh! I love it! You used several different pieces, right? How did you secure them together? That's beautiful! Very elegant...
Lin, I made that pedestal from a small clear bowl on the bottom (inverted) then 2 vases and topped with a larger bowl. These are all glued together so to speak with glass sealer/adhesive so it is good and sturdy.. I have the pot of philo sittting in the bowl. This could be used for any plant that trails.
I have another larger one that I made and plan to make more of varying heights. I think this one needs something else as a base added as it looks unbalanced to me.
Snow, why don't you just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and find a round piece of wood that has been beveled in some way.............it does look top heavy...............there are bound to be bases of some kind..............even if it is a square one.......................
Hi Rain, they are easy and fun to make. These are composed of dollar store glassware. I'd like to try some pottery ones if I can find the right pieces.
That second larger one cost me two dollars plus adhesive. I already had the plate on top.
Gail, I need to balance the one in the second photo somehow even if it's another inverted bowl for the bottom. This one was my first try.
I have several pieces like that, which is why I asked. And I'm always in the Dollar Store (the closest place to get milk - we need a cow!!) so I can surely find something there.
I found the neatest little candleholders there the other day. Some clear, some blue, and some green. They were on sale and I got the clear ones for 38c each and the colored ones were 50c each. I put perlite in the bottom and potted some mini AVs in them. They're cute!
Do you suppose silicone would work for that? We've probably got some around here somewhere.
