So true, kwanjin. Several years ago, as I recall, I asked a friend where to find the seeds of petunias. She found a ripe seedhead, popped it open and poured the seeds into my hand. That is truly teaching.
How did you get hooked on gardening?
I don't have enough people around me that will do that. There's me and one lady up the street from me. We share seeds and stories. There was another older gentleman but he and his wife moved two weeks ago. I miss him already.
It's wonderful to have garden mentors. Now that I am wiser, I try to share my information with anyone who is interested. Now I have some new garden friends who are collecting seeds for themselves. I've also helped them learn how to propagate from cuttings. Of course, since I have a small nursery business, it's rather like shooting myself in the foot, but I'd rather give a new gardener a good start than sell them new plants every year.
I think friends are worth more.
Since I prowl around town stealing seeds, I've become a 'public figure' in these parts. If peope stop to see what I'm doing, I show them the seed heads or seed pods and explain a bit about seed saving. Even if you are not a gardener, the process is interesting.
I've recently started doing that. I have to remember to label them when I get home, though. I don't remember what some of them are!
weez,
I'll bet some of your "new gardners" have also become customers.
I'm always telling people about DG, as well as sharing whatever bounty we have.
We are always entering websites (www)..... and know that it means World Wide Web, but look at this site -- truly world-wide and willing to do whatever for each other.

Sorry, Bubba. The link didn't work.
Did not intend it to be a link - just the term.
It takes me a while but I catch on. Eventually!!! ;-)
I have enjoyed this site so much I tell everyone who will listen about it!
My heart beats fast every time I find new seeds, or pour some into my hand. It's unconscious knowledge that a miracle is in my hand... and that another one of God's plants made it through to the 'seed' stage.
