This is just too funny, I just received this months issue of Backyard Living and it has an article about keeping chipmunks out with hardware cloth and actually has a pic.
It's not a cloth at all but wire with tight little squares. It says it has to be buried 2 feet deep they won't dig down that far.
What do I do now? Be nice
Hi Daisycat, my DH has probably relocated a similar number of squirrels (have I told you I hate squirrels????) Anyway, new ones do move in - but without the relocation program, there would be a population explosion.
I don't understand why it is okay to kill rats, but we are not allowed to kill the squirrels.
I've never used the product in the link but have heard of people who used it with great success. We don't have chipmunks, mainly squirrels.
I will gladly lend you the hawk that has decided to live in my tallest tree. We haven't had a bird, squirrel or any other living animal at the water or at the feeders in over a month. I miss my birdies at bath time.
Seandor your right. We stopped relocating for a while and there was a definate population explosion. When I was about 11 yrs old, I was leaning against a tree watching my dog chase squirrels. A squirrel ran up me!! I should have let it continue up past me, but I picked it off me when it got about to my chest. Darn thing chewed my fingers something dreadfull. All these years later, even through wrinkles and crinckles, the scars are still visable. Oh my, I have to go close some windows for a while. My nose just informed me we have a skunk in the front yard. Guess we'll add "eliminate grubs" to this weeks list. Have a good day. :)
What a horrible memory!
Scary!! Squirrels look so cute to bad they didn't act that way. I am starting to find mole holes in my beds!! Grubs!! Need to get the Murphy's Oil soap, Caster Oil, and cayanne pepper out. That seems to keep the moles out at least.
In my memory, it wasn't a horrible incident, just startling. I knew that the dratted creature was just frightened by me & my dog, so I never told my parents. Didn't want to get in trouble. In retrospect, I know I was very foolish & lucky. rabies etc.
