Celeste, that bee pick is great. You're right. It is another world. Hey! You could start a soap opera.
I was drooling, reading about everyone eating off the vine. Schick, your tomatoes look fantastic. I'm picking my neighbor's veggies while she's away and I can't eat them! She sprinkles insecticide powder on them. Ick. Also, I noticed little rat teeth marks on the cucumbers. Double ick. Some of the stuff I wash and eat. The stuff with rat bites, I throw away.

Wait - your freaking me out now I think about it. What is the difference between a rat bite and a mouse bite? All I know is a rat is BIG like 7 inches or longer. People go and shoot them at the dump. We up here all have mice in the house at some point or another. Mice are small like 3 inches long. I stand in the chair and screem and out comes the peanut butter and traps. Little traps.

Perhaps they can go visit them! I'm told that bullfrogs eat mice, birds and snakes. My neighbor has two, maybe I should have a chat with them..
Loaded my excalibur dehydrator with it's maiden load of cherry and sun-drying tomatoes. I figure that each half tomato will have cost me $2 when they are done! But the next 20 years of tomatoes will dry for free!

Andy - what a nice shot of your grapes. Our concords are starting to turn, but they aren't as big as last year's. We enjoy the grape jelly all winter from them...
I had some help picking green beans today.........the only problem was, there were none to bring in for dinner for the humans! Miss Molly the Gardener Bichon at it again!

OMG, Pirl.....those are luscious looking! How was the flavor? By the way, my tomatoes didn't turn in the brown bag, so I put them in the window sill and one is starting to turn. Interesting, huh? One from the same vine is now turning on the vine too. None look like these!!!
I'm not a seafood person in general. And with lobsters, I hate to have to beat up my food before eating it.
Ate one of my Cheyanne Purple 'Maters - wasn't very tasty. But it looked weird - so that made up for it in my book.
One of these nights we'll have corn but it will be from a farm stand, unfortunately.
This is the vining zuchinni, it will cover a 4 ' wide 6' tall trellis. I call it Trombone Zuchinni, I got it from Pinetree. It has an Italian name. I need the vining variety to save space, but it has an excellent flavor. I posted it on the last thread befor I realized you we already on to #3!

TDGarden...is that Zuchetta Tromba d'Albenga? Seeds from Italy carries it. Bill there describes it as "Sort of in between a zucchini & a winter squash" which can be eaten like zucchini when young or roasted like a squash when bigger. Just saw it the other day and was thinking of trying it next year. How's the taste? How have you cooked it?
Nice vine management, TD! I have done cukes that way, but haven't tried it with anything else. You sure do have a prolific patch!
Pinetree calls in"Zuchetta Ramicante Tromboncino" Now you know why I call it Trombone Zuchinni. It is slightly different than the regular zuchinni that we know, but I use it in all the same recipes. I use it with zuchinni and yellow squash for the three colors and textures. http://www.superseeds.com/details.php?id=W288 is the link to Pinetree. If I was was going to try to describe the slight difference it would be slightly less "squashy" flavor and a more mild. It roasts perfectly. We also steam and puree for the freezer, to make a soup stock. The only thing that you can't do is use it to stuff, my wife makes the best stuffed Zuke, the shape is too narrow and the seed are all in the 'bulb' at the end.
Thanks DonnieB I have 20 4 x 4 beds and they each have a trellis on the north side. I grow all my cukes up, 8 plants per trellis. Also, Peas, Beans, Tomatoes. I am trying the Doyles Blackberries this year too!. I have grown winter squash and melons on the trellis too! I need more garden space, to do them. I have managed to get a regular zuchini to go up the trellis but it requires careful work to tie the vine.
TD - The only way I was able to have a veggie garden on our patio in Fla. last winter was to put trellis's in or next to big ceramic pots. I did cukes & beans that way with morning glories threaded through the beans. I did tomatoes in pots without the trellis, but I may try doing some viney tomatoes this winter with the seeds I've just collected from the yellow Russian azoychka tomatoes I had good luck with this summer.
What does your wife stuff the zukes with? I never know what to do with zucchini.
Here's a pic of my patio veggie garden last winter. You can see the beans and morning glories on the white lattice trellis, the terra cotta low pot of mesculin greens and the sunflowers that reached 8 feet. The tomatoes and cukes aren't visible here. It was such fun to have my very first winter veggie garden..........until a big black snake decided he liked it too. eek!
Just ate my first peach. INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!! Sweet and juicy like you would not believe. Forgot to check on them recently and happen to look out my window and saw a few deer neat the tree. After throwing rocks to scare them off I went and picked about five. Heaven!
Great! How sweet it is to eat your own produce.
DonnieB My wife cuts a big Zuke in half the long way, scoops out the seeds, then makes a mix of bread crumbs veggies mushroom garlic, parmesan and maybe an egg. Sort of like stuffing a bird! Then she bakes it for 30-40 min until the zuke is tender and the stuffing is slightly brown. Yum. Wow you actually see sun in the winter????
