Great buy, Karen! I love anything hybridized by Ethel Champion!
We need some fun while we work........pics please.....
It was actually a freebie! What I purchased was 'Spiritual Corridor'... two of them! One for your trade box, Amy!
;*)
NO WAY!!! How sweet of you!! :o) Thank you, Karen! Just you wait til I find 'Spin Art'!! ;o)
WAY!!!
;*)
In the meantime, I'll come up with something really good for your box, too. :o) *thinking hard* ;o)
Gail,
As usual I'm drooling over your plant photos, you make me want to start shopping and placing orders. I love your Ramblin Sunshine, pretty blooms, do you remember where you got it. Is Spiritual Corridor really that dark burgundy-purple color? It's very eye-catching. You'll have to share your growing methods for AV's and Streps with the rest of us. Oh....and you can quit calling yourself a newbie at this.....you grow like a pro and probably could enter a show.......and win.
This is getting embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!! I have grown plants all my life.............just not the gesneriads..............Except for one sale in Corpus Christi by the Av club, I either trade, order from LL but just for fancy stuff (like chimeras)...............but mainly grow by leaf...............(I did order Kohlerias from both Rob and LL.
I will share but promise I have copied someone else............that is how I learned.............I currently have 2 perma nest trays of babies growing and over 50 mini greenhouses (those big clear corsage boxes that I ordered from the florist) with at least 5-7 solo cups with leaves) growing right now. There are lots of sites who send leaves........and good ones at that.
Right now i am too busy and will be for another month potting up babies to share. By the middle of September I am hoping that the babies will be big enough to trade..........(for leaves i don't have)...............I just thrive on growing leaves............
I am not awake enough to pass on growing tips............please dmail me later and I promise i will tell you what I have learned..............
thanks
gail
I'm gonna go post a question about growing on the "Propogation ..." thread that Amy started, so I don't get to OT here... so y'all be watchin' for it and help me if you can.
Thanks...
Karen
Gail... I just hope I can get babies from the leaves I have. If I ever do, you are welcome to leaves from any I have that you would want.
Thank you, Karen...................when I have time, I wil go back to the other thread.........working on plant files right now..............
Gorgeous pics Gail.I swear there isn't a plant out there you can't grow beautifully!
Mine's blooming GREEN, Lin! Do your blooms start out green then turn red?
How pretty, Lin....................love those plants and blooms...............
Lin,those are awesome.I just love the look of all the plants you have hanging there.I sure wish I had a place like that to hang mine.
In zone 5a what are your temps right now, nancy............you may be wanting plants outside where it may not be hot enough for them..............the columnea and codanthes.............
Yeah, it's still hot here but actually we are having a bit of a cool down ... only 90 right now, and a nice breeze! The humidity is a bit lower than it has been. I can't take too much of that 110 degree heat index .... way too hot! I look forward to fall but unfortunately we don't always get a fall season here! I just love it when my one and only Maple tree and my Hickory's turns gold, yellow, and that reddish orange color! Only happens once in a great while. Usually we go from being trees being green to totally losing their leaves without changing color.
Amy: maybe your plant is the same as mine. I found a couple of little buds not opened yet that look sorta like your pic:
Gorgeous Lin : )
Gail,I have alot hanging outside through the summer but my hanging presentation isn't nearly as attractive as Lins..lol..Mine are scattered all over.I usually hang them out the end of May and leave them out until September. Our temps range from 80 to 100+ through the summer with tons of humidity.Right now we are having a cool day at 75 but its still humid.I have a few columnea and codanthes sent to me from some DG friends that I am hovering over like a mother hen : )) I keep them inside though.
waaaaaa ........ I want to be in Northeast NE where it's 75 degrees!!
This is a photo of the front of my house. I have a couple of Hoya's and a couple of Lipstick Plants hanging out there ... facing East so this area gets morning Sun but mostly filtered sunlight, not direct real hot sun which would fry them.
..... seeing this photo makes me realize that I need to clean that brick!
All I can say Lin is..WOW!!! I want your house and plants!! Dirty Brick??I don't see any dirt...just heavenly plants : )
Well ... Thanks Nancy! I guess I notice the dirty brick before the plants because it's my house. LOL. We have such high humidity that the brick and out back by the pool part of the deck get a lot of mildew in summer months!
Nice pics.........Lin............I just noticed actual algae on the windows outside............i need to power wash!!!!!!!!!!!
I hear ya Gail ... y'all have the same moisture/humidity that we do. I'm afraid we'd have to pressure wash once a month during the summertime to keep it away totally! Usually hubby does it in the spring. I didn't even do the pool deck or wood deck this year ... and they need pressure cleaning!
That mosaic variegation is wow!
Hope I can do it justice...
That Mosaic variegation is simply exquisite!! Love it! :o)
I came across an AV today that I HAVE to send you leaves of...but I'm not telling what it is. How or why I didn't think of it before, I'll never know. You'll just have to wait til we send our boxes to find out what it is. ;o)
8*D
That mosaic variegation is a real winner...............will have to remember the name Red Pepper..................some leaf vendor just may have it...................
Wow! That is beautiful foliage variegation! I don't think I've ever seen one like that before .... I know I haven't seen one in person, but I don't think I've seen one in a photo either! Lovely! What color will it bloom, do you know?
I just looked it up at the AVSA website ... your foliage is prettier than the photo shown there. And, are those the blooms that are considered fantasy?

That's what the description says, that Snowrose posted... August 23rd, at 11:59pm.
Ooh, Rose, 'Red Pepper' has stunning variegation! I hope you'll put down a leaf or two over the winter.... not that I'm hinting... well, OK, I'm hinting! LOL
Great photo thread!
Wow Gail .... Black Gardenia is really Gorgeous! That bloom really is so dark it's almost black. I had never heard of that Strep before ... really pretty, I can see why you would want to keep her growing forever!
But in real life, Lin, she is just the darkest purple you have ever seen..............I love her.............she has been sitting here for month on end not growing or blooming...........I think I put those from Gary in a 4" pot too soon........................I know I did!!!!!!!!!!!
Gail... that 'Black Gardenia' is absolutely beautiful! Very nice indeed! Worth the wait she gave you I'm sure!
I was shocked at her color.......thanks............she will eventually give us leaves.............
