Everyone is working so hard on the plant files............we need joy in the way of pics............anyone have some new av blooms???????????
This is the only noid standard i still have left............can't give her up as I love her blooms............just starting to bloom (I know.........she has several crowns........do something about it after she blooms again)
We need some fun while we work........pics please.....
Here's a chimera trailer I like blooming now. Just added it to Plant Files.
Fiery Trail (5892) 01/23/1985 (B. Elkin) Single chimera white and red striped star. Bright green, plain, semi-trailing. Semiminiature trailer
That's a lovely plant you posted, gessiegail. The blossoms are striking with the white edge.
Here's another I just love...'Rob's Chilly Willy' which I received from gessiegail in one of our earlier trades. This plant grows effortlessly into a perfect little showplant.
Rob's Chilly Willy (9461) 07/30/2005 (R. Robinson) Double silver-white star/medium blue overlay, edge. Crown variegated medium green and white, pointed. Miniature
Ok...........snow..............mine doesn't look nearly that big..............wish I knew your instincts to growing...............love all the pics................
Nice one Raingazer. Here's the info on it so you can enter in PF.
Lucky Ladybug (9534) 12/17/2005 (Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses/P. Sorano) Single-semidouble maroon-red pansy. Dark green, plain, quilted. Semiminiature
wow,beautiful ladies!
Hi, Amy................remember our discussion of growing leaves in vermiculite..........they do take longer, but look how big they do get eventually................
********one can tell I need a break from plant files when I am looking around the room to take pictures of something...............look at that Pink Patches from Snow in a trade..............have already potted up Dixie Celebration................i see one of Brenda's babies in there..............
Woohoo.I can click on the pictures to see them! I love that Pink Patches! Good looking babies.
Great Growin Miss Gail! Beautiful Babies!
I've loved Wranglers Pink Patches since I first joined DG and saw Snow's photo! I had no idea AV's came with variegated foliage until I saw her picture! That one has been on my wish list ever since! Snowrose actually sent me two leaves of Wrangler's Pink Patches in a trade but they did not survive under my care, bad plant mama that I am sometimes. :( The others she sent me are doing real well ... babies sprouting around mama leaves!
Well .. I am outta here again, more errands to run. Seems like I've been gone all day today! Just came in and am leaving again! Whew! It's too hot to be out and about now!
Lin...I can replace the Wrangler's Pink Patches leaves if you want.
Oh Snow ... that is very sweet of you but I think I should wait until next Spring to even think about more leaves! I just have so much going on right now and too many plants to take care of as it is. I sure do appreciate your offer cause that is the prettiest AV I've ever seen .... my favorite by far! Maybe next Spring if you have a leaf or two I can try again.
planted babies all afternoon and had to take pics before I could go back to work!!!!!!!! I am really starting to get some good babies going................will share, honest engine...........
Remember when i asked you to squint your eyes...............these were the seeds from Snow i thought I had killed................now you can see!!!
Great Growin with those seeds Gail! They look great! What are they, Streps?
Love Rob's Argyle Socks!! You say it leaves you cold? I really like the color in the leaves and I love pink so I like that flower too. Is that one a trailer, a mini, semi mini?
Ramblin' Sunshine is a cutie too!
Rob's Argyle Socks is a mini...........I love the foliage............but I have about 5 where the blooms all look alike on variegated foliage from Rob................
Some people don't like Russian avs because their foliage is usually not pretty............but I am in love with the blooms...........these are new blooms as of today...........can't imagine how big they are going to get if they are anything like the other Russians I have.......and that dark purple is so intense
What beauties those all are, Gail!! And just LOOK at all those seed pods on that red hybrid Strep!! Save a few seeds for me, would ya??
Spiritual Corridor is amazing as usual!! :o)
Perhaps I shouldn't say this, but i don't know quite what the fuss about the Bristol's series is............this is just a hybrid seedling...........dont even have a name..........and she is a beauty............
that is all folks..........need to find my partner and get to work on the plant files...............have a great evening...............
**************edited to say she has a name.............'Ruby'

Rain...............that red one doesn't even have a name and she is gorgeous............will send you leaf when i ever get around to sending you something..............and I will save seeds.......having trouble harvesting them at the right time..............I got two big pods from Iced Pink Flamingo and got them too soon!!!!!!!! no seeds.............boo hoo.............
Darn! You found me! ;o) LOL We're actually about to have a bite of supper, Gail, but I'll get back with you in just a little bit. :o)
Good..............take your time..............I am still planting up babies.............but will be happy to work tonight............you just say when you get back............I will check in...........
You'll know when those pods are ready. They turn brown. Don't take them while they're still green. See those corkscrew lines around them? They'll look like they're just about to split, which they are, when they're ready to harvest. Once they turn brown, I squeeze them ever so gently about once or twice a day, and if it starts to split at those lines, I go ahead and clip it off, twist it just a little to open it just enough that the seams split so some air can get in, and put them on a plate somewhere it's not drafty to dry.
I can't seem to learn this....................when they look like they ready this time.......nice and brown...........i am putting something like muslin or something around them and let them fall into the fabric............
Gail... lovely growing, as always. That 'Spiritual Corridor' makes me drool! I received an order I placed off eBay a few days ago, and I got the 'AV'Ramblin' Sunshine' as a bonus plant, as well as one called 'Red Pepper'. I'm glad you showed your 'Ramblin' Sunshine', and I found the description in the newly updated PlantFiles (thanks again...) So with a trailer, it will just spread out and spill over the pot? Does anyone know anything about 'Red Pepper'? I can't seem to find any description for it. It is a very nice variegated foliage though.
Gail... you are always saying that you are new to Gessies, but I've got to tell you... with all you post, and all you do... you look to me like you grow like a pro! And you have such a nice set-up... with all your stuff so organized and neat. I envy you, that you can do that all day! You really do such a great job!
Thanks for always sharing your photos and such!
Have a good evening...
Karen
Karen...............what is that old saying, "I have paid my dues"............meaning life is great at my age.....................reared 3 children by myself..........loved every minute of it..............now I have grandchildren. I sometimes feel guilty that i do exactly what i want to do each and every day.................never had it so easy...................
You, too, will get grow old someday and you will love each part of your life............it just gets easier and easier (if I ignore the aches and pains that come with age) (LOL)
Thank you for sharing photos...............we have a great Av forum with every one participating and learning from one another..............everything I know I have learned either from you or someone else on the forum.............
Have a good evening, too.
going to bed myself........

Red Pepper (S. Whitaker) Double red. Dark green, quilted. Standard
Red Pepper (E. Champion) Double vivid pink/red fantasy, edge. Mosaic variegated medium and light green. Standard
*******************************************************************************
Va_Wild_Rose....as you can see, there are two of Red Pepper in the database. One has plain dark green foliage and the other has Mosaic variegated foliage. Which one did you get?
Gail...gorgeous as always. Wow , your strep seedlings are coming right along. Nice and healthy looking. That last strep has such eye-popping color.
Thanks Snowrose! I got the 'Red Pepper' with the mosaic variegation... it's very pretty. For someone who has said they don't like the AVs, because I haven't had good luck with them, I'm developing quite a little collection... mostly variegates. LOL! I recently ordered a few leaves, and have had them down for about a week or so. I have a leaf of my very favorite of all the AVs I've seen... 'Tiger'. I do hope they will take, and grow for me!
Thanks again for the description!
