Member sign-up hover - I miss it

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Hi Dave,

If it's possible, would you consider bringing back the function that when you hovered the cursor over a member's name, it would show the date they signed up as a member? I sure miss that.

Sandy

P.S. Thank you for restoring GoGardening to the more comfortable DG look. I don't know if anyone else was having trouble inputting GoGardening info when it was on gardens.com. But now it's back and all is well!

North Augusta, ON

I miss the hover feature as well, would be nice to have it back....I also miss the click on a name and the info pops up in a window...since we're asking :)

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Me three- I like the pop up with the info and a pic. It's nice to see who you are talking to.

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

If we had to choose between the two, I'd have to choose the hover. Just hovering the cursor over the member name would show their sign up date. No clicking required.

I constantly find myself wanting to know how long an unfamiliar poster has been a member because my answer to their post would be different if they were a brand new member as opposed to someone that's been around a few years.

Plus, I guess I don't understand the usefulness of the pop-up window, because if you click on the name, you go to the member's home page and see the date and a pic if they have one anyway.

The hover saved me a couple of clicks, one to open and one to close the window. Not that it's a big deal - but I sure thought it was a handy-dandy feature.

I loved the hover also.

I agree. I've always liked the hover over member's name and sure have missed it since it dissappeared.

I didn't know we were ever able to do that. I must have just got off the boat.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It only lasted a couple of days, 2pugdogs. It was very nice, though!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

The hover had been here ever since DG format changed in 2004 (I think). The other box thing was new just a week or two ago.

I miss the hover too.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh... apparently, I'm not very observant. LOL

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Gee, and I thought I was the only one who ever used the hover! I also miss it. I used it a lot. Would love to have it back.

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

I miss it too. smiles..Diana

I put the hover back in. It currently just has the signup date. What else should it have?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Yea! Thank you, Dave!

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Very cool, Dave. I know people realize these are all perks, not necessities, but it's nice to have things that people enjoy. Thank you for doing them. You are wonderful.

Thanks Dave!

I don't know if it's possible or not, but it would be helpful, for me at least, to be able to hover and see if they are subscribers or not. When trying to refer someone to a forum for specific help, knowing that helps to determine which forum to send them to. I usually try to remember to look at their member page for that information, but hovering would be much easier.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

That's a good one, Joan! I like that idea too. :o)

Joan, excellent suggestion. Maybe a * or some such?

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks Dave, I didn't know we had it and now we have it again I like it.

Joan great idea, yes Dave that would be real nice.

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Dave, thanks a million!

Thank you, Dave! I can think of only one other feature that might be nice for the hover. That would be to show "...is online" if the member is actively signed in.

But really the only thing I cared about is the sign-up date. Thanks for bringing it back.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I think that one has been asked about before, nap. I know that with me it wouldn't really tell you anything. I may not be on my PC, but I am never logged out of DG....unless my PC does it for me (sometimes that happens.)

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, me too. But that's why I suggested "actively signed in." It might be nice to know that I could send you a Dmail and you'd notice it right away and send me a reply while I'm still sitting at the computer.

I use Sarahskeeper's site (Daily Pics) and he has that. It is a green dot or something and the words "is online" next to it.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Thankyou, thankyou! I really missed that hover also. :)

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I'm not really in favor of having "actively signed in" except in the chat.

My office is at home and I can't spend long hours in DG. If I'm just taking time to quickly browse through a few forums I wouldn't want someone to be offended because I didn't have time to acknowledge a particular post or quickly answer a D-mail. Plus, if hundreds of people are actually logged in all day, posting all those names will just take up more space somewhere on the pages.

Just my opinion.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Nap, I'm curious how it would work then? Would it be something people would have to do voluntarily? When you get online you click on something to show you are online?

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't think so. I think the computer automatically recognizes a connection. Once you click onto another website, I think your DG connection is inactive. Maybe if you open a new window you could be connected to both. I don't know how it works, for sure. Maybe someone else could correct me. If I'm "online", but not looking at Daves Garden (which rarely happens...) would such a device say I'm online? If I open a different site in a new window, am I connected to both at the same time?

I see the problem with what you're saying, June. It sounds like the reason why I don't like to have the fact announced that I have opened someone's email. I don't always want to answer at that moment, and I wouldn't want to imply a lack of interest in the other person. Maybe, if the feature were added, it could be optional.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Recently we talked about having something on the member page that said "most recent post was on [date]" or something to that effect. I think something like that would be good to let others know whether someone is still checking in regularly or not.

I've added their subscriber status to the hover!

Thanks! Pretty nifty.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Dave! I like having it show subscriber or not, it helps me when I'm posting in the beginner forums to know if someone's a subscriber or not so I know which forums I can send them to for more info. I had been going to their member page to find out, but this makes it much easier!

Northern Piedmont, NC(Zone 7b)

Perfect Dave! Thank you!

Exactly, Nap. If it's optional, perhaps that will work for those who need to know who is logged in.

Thanks Dave, it's easier on us dial up people ;o)

This "hover" thing sounds cool... I never noticed it before, and that's probably because I'm still not noticing it now, so to speak... I'm hovering the cursor over the membernames to the left of the posts, and I'm getting absolutely nothing (name changes from blue to red, but that's it).

Yes, I'm using Firefox, and most of the DG features work fine for me. What am I missing?

??

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Bravo. I love it.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

critterologist, it works with Firefox...just hold it steady (no clicking) and wait a second or two.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Is there any preference setting or something that could mess it up? I left my cursor hovering over your name just now (turned from blue to red, so I know it registered) for a full minute and got nothing... :-(
