Karen, that velvet plum of Emma's is beautiful. I don't know how many ribs it has but it looks big.
Morning Glories 2007 # 19
Chantell, I knew a long time ago that you and I were kindred souls - especially in serendipitous organizational matters. We've done something similar with our recent extension of a deer fence - except it's the front steps that can only be accessed after you've butted the deer fence a tad out of the way. Amazing the uncouth things I will stoop to in order to grow flowers.
Would you like to post a pic of the MG at the foot of your back steps? Sounds like you've got a pretty cascade going there.
Many thank yous to PamSue for the Indigo Feathers seed. Here's my best representation of this MG, but maybe the worst presentation -
Gourd, that was one of the first blooms to open on Velvet Plum. Seems like the first ones in general are often the biggest, most sumptious flowers. Yesterday and this morning, after all the cooler, cloudy, rainy weather we've been having, the flowers are suddenly smaller, but these particular vines have hardly begun yet - maybe when the sun comes out?
Here's a couple more blooms on the same vine, same day - the tones are even more black, and the smudge on the white picotee edge looks downright decadent
Pam, I've been busy tying their little snouts hoping for seed pods this fall - the better to return some back to you. I think, though, due to all the shredding, I'm going to go back to baggies tomorrow night. Two of the vines turned out to be like Indigo Feathers, but one is solid dark purple, and the other one has a narrow, white pinstripe down the center of some of the petals, and the pistil actually sticks out beyond the tip of the closed "snout" the night before it opens, unlike the solid one.
Here's a leg of the arbor that Indigo Feathers is sharing with Ronnie's Ipomoea setosa and Ansonfan's white moonflower. What a technological feat - this camera photographs context better than subject!
g'night, all - thanks for sharing all the pics & musings
Karen, Love Emma's Gray Fog and Velvet Plum.
That's the 1st Indigo Feathers bloom I've seen, very nice.
Looks like cream & blue chiffon - something to dance in, long ago
Karen - *hanging head* I have no MG's on that trellis - I just started growing them this spring - they're all out in my front yard. :) Next year though...I'm going to plant them on that trellis on the outside of the passi's...it'll be like a little piece of heaven!! yipeee!
Chantell, I don't know how I missed envisioning that trellis at point of impact of noggin - I can see how tempting a vine would be in that spot, then - what a view lol.
How about a pic of the MGs out front? I hear it's a good idea to try to keep one's dwelling invisible in pictures like this - don't know how hard that would be to do
floaty enough to paddle among clouds
patootie - that LM is pretty. Is the foliage variegated?
bluespiral - LOL at your post last night regarding tying the morning glory "snouts". What a visual!!
Joanne
I hadn't seen an Indigo Feathers either, very nice.
Jackie, great bloomers there..
Chantell,, wooooohooo.. girl..we'll get you addicted soon, you better watch out!!! cuz here we come.
here are a few from today, I spent most of the day getting the mg area clean, back up and some water out of the way..
This is one from LAMark, had a double on this one yesterday, hope this one makes lots of seeds.. thanks Mark..
Blue Picotee

Emma
lol.. good timing
Blue, Karen, you're in fine form tonight.
Joanne, Thanks. I'm pretty sure this one is not variegated. I'll dbl check in the
morning.
Chantell, Love the red and the blue side by side.
Thanks A. You've got some beauties, again!!! Nice picotees and I really
like the squared off blue bloom, very different. Love the parasitica with the
star. The Blue Tie Dye not is gorgeous. I grew a Blue and Pink Tie Dye
from Parks last yr and I don't think that's what they were. My pink looked like
Paul's Ushio. I have no idea what my blue might have been.
Is your fuschia Mt Fuji the same as the Kongo pink?
Jackie
Antoinette. . .
OMG!
This made me fall off my chair
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3892657
What a beauty!
I can't get over all of your awesome blooms.
And, your blooms from LAMark ave VERY NICE!
Karen-Blue,
What some beauts you have going.
Wonder if this one was a stray seed?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3888427
Did you only plant one seed - or more?
My Grays have all remained Gray 'so far'!
Too funny, but so right about Velvet Plum being on Steroids. That is ONE HUGE BLOOM, isn't it!
Nice Feathered

Emma
Antoinette- Gourd,
I like using both names to help keep from confusing newbies who don`t know everyone`s name yet.
That square one is very cool. Unique indeed. :)
I`m in love with the Mt Fuji fuschia colored bloom. You gotta trade with me. Karen
Antoinette,
Looking at your beauties again. . .
Isn't this one Youjiro Yagaruma?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3892708
Emma
It probably is, the envelope said Mt. Fuji Fushia.. that's all I can go by, so, I really think these are all the same. Since it probably came from a Mt Fuji mix, it was probably called by it's color. These are all seeds from a couple of years ago, so, at that time I don't think too many people knew the Japanese names.
Karen, got some seeds ready too, hopefully we can do a big trade.. A
It does appear to have the fancy cut looking leaves.
Yagu ruma is another spelling I have been corrected before that it is yagu ruma and now it is yaga ruma. Which is the really correct or are both ways correct?
How large is your flower because yagurumas are small about 2 inches at the most.
Whatever it is I want it. :)
Jo - come to think of it, those ties do look a little like Dali's mustaches.
Chantell - that's getting closer to a MG bouquet - nicely done, and MGs are so much easier to back into than cacti. Stick around us and you'll be tying snouts before long, too :)
Gourd, love the interplay of geometries with Rebecca
Emma, I've been wondering if I had this one right, too - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3888427 . But I went out there again to check more of the same blooms, and they're coming from the same vine coded per Gourd's colored straw technique. I planted 3 seeds, all of which seedlings are growing out there. A second has a kind of slate-gray, royal blue color - am waiting to get a better picture of that one. The third hasn't bloomed yet. I have to say, no matter how any of your seeds turn out, they all just have an unearthly beauty to them.
The 2 seedlings of Velvet Plum seem to be identical.
The pin-striped Indigo Feathers has oodles more pollen than the solid one - curious differences between the two.
Patootie, regarding a double rose silk, I'd like to see that one, too. One of Emma's rose silks threw this yesterday - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3899843

"tying snouts???" OMG...I'm afraid to ask...LOL Thanks for your sweet words!!
Karen-Blue,
Thanks for the update. I'll look forward to seeing more photos of your MGs.
Antoinette,
I can't tell you how many times I've looked at your incredible MGs.
ALL ARE SO STUNNING!
Emma
