Hi Hope, I was interested so I did some searching and found that this looks like a hoax. I typed in "August 27th mars and moon" and several rebuttals came up.

Did you happen to see the meteor showers not too long ago? An acquaintance came to work a bit tired and disappointed. she had gotten up early in the morning and was out in the middle of the country at 4 a.m. watching the sky and only saw one meteor. Not sure where the greatest show was to be.

There will be a lunar eclipse that day though.

The Perseid meteor shower isn't a hoax, it just depends how clear the sky was in your area around that time. (around August 9th)

I have to agree with merigold as the message about Mars was sent around last year.

There IS supposed to be a lunar eclipse on August 28

Yeh, I knew the shower was not a hoax, but I guess not much was seen here. I might look for the eclipse, that is always kinda fun.

Better mark my calendar, am almost positive I won't be around for the next showing...

I don't blame you, it's the things that get sent around. It's kind of crazy. You never know if some things are true and others, not.

I get so many things like this through forwards, and I always check with Urban Legends. I've gotten the one about Mars for the last two years. It actually was close to Earth in 2004 (I think that was the year) but didn't appear as large as the moon. :)

It always suprises me that people still circulate the one about Bill Gates giving money away, as well as numerous others about tracking emails and sending money for forwarding something. These are always bogus.
