Why the Too Wide Text Effect?

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi,

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/758926/

Anyone know why this thread is viewing so 'wide' on the screen. One poster said it was my Cincinnati address, but this problem doesn't appear on any other thread I'm on?!

If it is my address, how do I change it?

Thanks. t.

There was a line of extremely long text (supposed to be a hyperlink but the htt part was missing). I fixed it.

Gee! Thanks, Dave, for that quick remedy!

Made things all better and now everyone on the thread is happy again!

And if you want to shorten or change your address - click on My Tools tab at the top of the page, scroll to the bottom and click on Preferences, on the right side of the screen click on Your Location. There you go...

thanks, kooger! And good to hear from you! I haven't seen your posts for ages since DG expanded with all the new forums! I miss seeing your name!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

yeah, that's the downside of DG getting so big. I try to get around the forums somewhat - always check coffee and prayer requests, DG forum and then what I have time for. DH and I are trucking full time - very slow right now, not a load yet this week...bummer! Good to see you too - there's quite a few I miss seeing regularly since the regional forums opened up. Sometimes I just go lurk to see who's doing what. :)

Kooger, will be watching for you........God bless

Hey tabasco, what does (Anderson Twp) stand for?

Louisville, KY(Zone 6b)

Tabasco,

And while you are changing your Preferences on your Member Page, post a picture. I wish more members would post their pictures---I like to see the face of those I am talking to.

'Anderson Township' is the suburb of Cincinnati where I live. It is about 10 miles east of downtown Cincinnati along the Ohio River.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

tabasco, you said there was a comment made before that it was your address that was causing the problem. Even though this turned out to be incorrect, I think the person thought this because your City/State info is much longer than many of the other people here (mine is too). The first column in the thread stretches to accommodate that info on one line and therefore shortens the second column. No big deal, just thought I'd clarify that info.

Okay, we don't have townships out west. Wonder why? Just out of curiosity I looked at threads you've started or replied to and the Author box is narrower in the ones you don't. JFYI ;~)

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Interesting. Didn't know the west didn't have townships.

FYI Here's an online definition of 'Township' (since I didn't know exactly what one is, either): A subdivision of a county in most northeast and Midwest U.S. states, having the status of a unit of local government with varying governmental powers.

Thanks, faedon and Katy. for pointing this out about the spacing.

faedon--FYI I will be in San Francisco on Wednesday to visit my daughter who lives in the Marina and also we'll be up in Marin. Looking forward to visiting some good restaurants and pretty gardens...

We had/have townships in ON too. Our's was Brock Township in honor of General Brock of War of 1812 fame. There's a Brock Monument in Niagara Falls - and you can climb it's 235 steps to the top for an awesome view. http://www.generalbrock.com/pages/monument.html Be sure and visit it you're touring Niagara Falls. :)

kooger, 235 steps? I don't think so! LOL

How long will you be here? You must visit the San Francisco Botanical Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, and the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. There are also many others in our area - you wouldn't have enough time if you lived here for a month! If you're interested in cacti and succulents you also might want to visit the Ruth Bancroft Garden. Here are their respective websites:

http://www.sfbotanicalgarden.org/
http://www.conservatoryofflowers.org/
http://botanicalgarden.berkeley.edu/
http://www.ruthbancroftgarden.org/

Before you come you might want to go to the tab above called Products and Sources, then click on Public Gardens, Parks & Arboreta, or whatever other area in which you're interested, and put in your daughter's zip code. This will give you a list of the places you might want to visit while you're here, with contact info and websites.

If you have any questions please feel free to dmail me.

Hi, faeden--thanks for all the good links. I expect to get a round a bit to some of these so I will use the link info a lot.

We used to live on Golden Gate Park in the Richmond District (for 10 years) many years ago and then also in the East Bay. Took many stroller walks through the GGP gardens and the glass house there with DD. My husband still has an office in SF so we get back there every few months for business and pleasure and to see DD. My old friend just bought a houseboat to live in in Saulsalito so we will be visiting her, too. I have never seen the inside of one of those houseboats. She used to have a pretty garden, but I guess she doesn't now!

Oh, well, see - I'm preaching to the choir! You already know about all these wonderful places! Have a great trip! If you have some extra time on one of your trips send me a dmail and we'll do lunch. Or we can go up to UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. I volunteer there and never have time to get out into the Garden itself 'cause I'm working.

You'll love the houseboat. I'll bet if she had a garden before she still has one now. It'll just be in containers instead of in the ground.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks!

I'll let you know how the house boat is. She just e-mailed me that she has a (very small) guest house on the pier so I guess I will be staying there....

You're welcome! Get your friend to take you on a walk around the houseboats. Some of them are quite spectacular.
