16th Place

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

Hey all!! I just got home and checked mail...received my DG's newsletter and had a look. Our Tropical Gardening forum has come in 16th place out of 142 forums for number of posts made. A grand total of 23,794 posts were made during the past week: Our little forum had 346 posts!!! Good job everyone! Keep it up, and I will try to do the same...not sure how many others out there received this newsletter...we got beat by the games forum...coming in at number1...who'd a thunk?? Anyway,

congratulations to all of us who contribute to this fun and educational forum, it sure proved itself a worthy competitor in it's infancy!!!

Aurabest,
john

The post from you and Shari can account for this number. We are all so in awe of the pictures from your dives that we just can't get enough. Maybe you should start #4?

Hi Christie!! Yeah, I am going to tonight...just getting some fresh images together...I am sure thankful for all the support for this forum as I am sure Shari is...That girlie works hard with this and it seems with everything she does. It's folks like you that make this fun and informative, not to mention the networks that have been built around this forum. It has taken teamwork for this forum to be as successful as it is and we have a great team here. Looking forward to climbing the charts towards No.1 as we speak!!!

Go.....John and Shari and everyone else that has so much to offer. I'm just the watcher and am thrilled to be able to leave North Central Texas virtually everyday.

Yeah!

I had no idea there was a competition involved.

See, all we have to do now make one liner posts.... lots of them LOL

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

Nah, that's what the gamers do...besides,,,can't learn nuttin in one liners....starting number 4 now...

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Well, if we can't do one liners then we need to do 2 liners. LOL! Just kidding!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Actually, out of sheer curiosity a few weeks ago, I was looking through the "extras" at DG and came upon the Newsletter - this was before the start of the new articles. We fluctuate, but are always one of the more active forums. Its certainly not a competition, but it is very heartening to see that my dream forum has so much lively discussion; friendly, caring people and tons of information and advise. I love hangin out with all you tropikids, so I am thrilled that John is starting #4....and I love to see all the other posts as well! Keep up the wonderful work!

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

I know it's not a competition...just proud to see our forum doing so well....solid discussion and information is what we are here for and not looking for posts just to make the numbers look good....

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Nope, that's for sure.... most of the time we're just plain gabby! Ha Ha. I never even thought anyone kept track of that stuff till I saw it on the newsletter a while back. I love it that we get people from so many different places ....even England!! Certainly not what you think of as 'tropical"...but we sure have fun.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

'cause the whole world dreams of living on a tropical island.....straight out of South Pacific....all play.....no work.....pina coladas...hammocks and umbrellas.....white sands....blue water.....pretty shells......aaahhhh the good life......

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

I'm choking on my coffee here Chris! I guess that's the dream, but it sure ain't the reality! Work keeps interfering with our play, I tend to fall out of hammocks, umbrellas are useless in a high wind....HOWEVER....we definately have pina coladas, white sands, blue waters and pretty shells....yup...we do have the good life.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes you do, and we are all enjoying it right along with you! Thanks to you and John for your input on the undersea world. It is so gorgeous and educational.
We love it!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Wow! 16th! Who knew anybody kept count?
I agree that John and Shari have given us some of the most beautiful underwater glimpses which have caused all of us to join in. Thank you guys!
And to think, Shari, they said there may not be enough interest in a tropical forum!
Warmest Aloha to all my friends on Tropical gardening for making this forum such a joy to be part of!
Jenny

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

That is pretty great for the forum that almost had to get down and beg to exist!

You have all been so warm and inviting that I have been made to feel like I am wearing a lei and sipping something with an umbrella on a warm sandy beach while watching some of the most awesome creatures on the planet.

I know they sometimes take down forums that do not do well but this one looks like it should stay safely active for years to come.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Amen.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

That's the part that I love the most....all the warm friendships. But I do think its funny that we really had to work hard to get this forum. Now that its up and sailing along (tee hee), we get lots of looky loos, and then they're hooked and we reel em in. (How's that for blending with the ocean theme? Fishing anyone?) Yup....not enough interest.....right!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Fish emulsion is a great fertilizer! And although this forum gives me all these wonderful underwater pics to admire it also lets me see plants that won't grow here outside of as house plants or in heated nurseries. The tropicals forum always seemed more attuned to house plants which I don't grow anymore because I live in a cave like apartment and it is too expensive to keep grow lights on 24/7.

So you keep fishing and reeling em' in. One of these days we will have a big fish feed and clam bake.

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

Hey Zany!! I still own 5 acres of ground in Riverside County..My mom left Cayman last week, did her laundry in Oklahoma, and went to my brother's place on above property...i have heard of Fontana but not Fortuna...where you is???

john

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

John... you got a house on that property?? We could all meet there! Dive off Catalina and watch the whales!!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I am on the opposite end of California about 1500 miles north of Riverside near Victorian Ferndale and Eureka on the coast. Redwood country, rivers, forests and great people.

I lived in Riverside for about a year before the commute into Gardena everyday for work got to me and we headed north. Loved the people, hated the climate.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh Zany, I love your neck of the woods! Grew up in Marin before it was "elite"....the redwoods sooth my soul. Probably my favorite part of the world, and San Francisco is my favorite City! I compare all other cities to it, and they come up short. Does the 101 still go all the way up?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, all the way up into Oregon. We are about 375 miles north of San Francisco. We consider SF to be central CA and anything South of Monterey is Southern Ca or worse is part of Los Angeles ;~)

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Oh I remember! Playing around up by Eureka....first heard of SF as "down south". Non-californians just don't have a clue how gorgeous it is up there. All they think of is LA....yuck. Hug a tree for me, kay? :-)

Pass Christian, MS(Zone 8b)

Sounds like Cariblue from the Caymans is a gardener and diver, just wanted to say hi from a fellow diver/gardener.
You all sound like you have a lot of fun!

Wow, what a nice welcome!
And yes, Christi we did lose most everything to Katrina, a most humbling experience.
Your, Tis the Season forum is interesting, with so many members in hurricane territory.
I am due to fly back to Canada on Friday for a couple of weeks, so will be closing up the house here in MS and keeping my fingers crossed, best wishes to all of you!

Will be checking out the forum from Canada.

Cheers

Nothing can match the fury of nature. Hope that there were no physical injuries although I know that the mental security will take some time. Stay with us and we will hug you everyday. I can tell you from personal experience......the people that inhabit DG are the cream of the crop. uuuhhh...didn't mean to brag on myself.

Christi Lou

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Ha Ha - you go ahead and brag darlin! Cuz you are right!

Hope your trip goes well, Cath, and we will be looking for your posts from Canada!

Pass Christian, MS(Zone 8b)

Tropical crew,

Wow, this is amazing. I was just reading the notes from the Tis the season!
I have to tell you, coming from Canada, its been an incredible experience this hurricane stuff!
Living through Katrina and all.
We thought driving through snow storms in 40 below weather was tough up north.

People from Canada, ask me why I would live in a hurricane area. Now maybe you all can elaborate on that.....
I have totally fell in love with this part of the earth. Even though I still love Canada!
Believe me no one can understand what it is like to live with these storms until you experience them first hand.

Funny enough, our flight got delayed and we deplaned due to Erin going through Houston. (after sitting on a plane for 3 hours on the runway)
So here I am back at home in the warm south. Due to try and leave again in the early AM.
And I just had to check what was happening with you all!

As much as I don't want another hurricane in our direction, it means even more that such wonderful people like yourselves could be impacted! All the very best to all of you that these storms bring no sorrow to anyone.

My heart is with you!
Cath

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Happy and safe traveling Cath - on behalf of all of us, thank you for the good wishes.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Well Tropifriends....guess what? In this weeks newsletter, we were in 12th place! John, why did you get met started looking!! I'm sure it was because of all the posts in "tis the season"...but sometimes we get real busy like that in other threads as well. I'd say we are definately one of the more active forums in DG. And as far as I'm concerned, its cuz the folks here are the best!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Amen to that, Shari... Remember how we had to grovel for this forum.... Going to take a walk around one of these days and take pictures of our 'planting projects'!!!! The one activity you forgot to mention, that keeps us out of the hammocks, is pruning... Man...everything grows so quickly!!!
