Yep. One of our main attractions there. Designed and built by E.Fay Jones who was a student of Frank Lloyd Wright 11 yrs ago. Very relaxing building to be in. Sometimes I forget to work cause the views are so distracting. lol
'tis the season
I get that way when I sit by the sea wall. I'm supposed to be writing, and all I do is stare out at the breakers...did any of you get to see the meteors the last couple of nightss?
John, are you ok? I'm worried about everybody. Hope you are all ok wherever you are.
I'm right in the middle of Texas and everything around me is going to pieces.
Why is everyting going to pieces Chris???
the latest model on dean puts it just south of Hispanola.....Jamaica is next in line then us.....i have some friends lined up to hang my shutters...this is a poor time to be in a cast....the next 48 hours will tell us more....dean could change directions and head north....best case is for it to head towards open water.....not likely....hereis the latest link on probable path...

Well I can never tell much from those maps anyway! You will just have to keep me posted. If your hand gets tired have Katie type. (big smile)...As far as things in the sky...we are all excited about the lunar eclipse coming up on the 28th! JB is waxin up his tripod, and I am workin on the old neck muscles....this one should be great from out here. We have chased hundreds of miles at times, trying to get a good view of a lunar eclipse and always end up with clouds or rain, or something. This time, I'm really keeping my fingers crossed, cuz it isn't even a "wee small hours" thing! We should see it starting around 10:00! I hope I will have some really cool pictures to post.
We can't wait to see!!!! Long exposures on a tripod.....love that stuff....remember....the sky moves, not as fast as taillights, but an exposure longer than 2minutes will have a tail on it.....wish we were there to share the moment....someday soon....cashing in our chips for tonight....always our pleasure to catch you guys....see you tomorrow...'night friends...
j
45 second exposure.....overpass matthews north carolacky...few years back....
Waay cool John! Looks like something from Koyannasqatsi. Pleasant dreams to my carib-friends....be well.
Love to all......
Christi - I love it! You said Yokwe in English! Outstanding!
sweet dreams
To you as well dear friend.,,
News just said they do think Dean will get into the Gulf of Mexico. Will have to keep an eye on this one! John, will it be in your area Sun or Mon? Good Luck to you. Be Safe!
Here is just one of numerous models we are watching...Dean is still way out in open water and could change direction any time...I will keep posting updates if an interest remains....we should make the other threads positive and let nature take its course....Katie and I survived Ivan the Horrible and we will no doubt survive this season as well...without further ado, the latest:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at4+shtml/203524.shtml?5day?large#contents
please advise on further update requests.....not sure about power if and when Dean arrives....same condition as the folks in Texas dealing with Erin.....
sea-ya on the other threads...
j
John, an update when things change would be wonderful, if you have the chance....otherwise we will all just keep an eye on the link. You and Katie be safe, don't take any unnecessary chances. Remember - you are in a cast, so reactions will be slower...don't push! Love to you both, and keep it cool.
S
Will do...my friend came by tonight and we got the hurricane shutters lined up and ready to go if need be....the next 48 will give us alot better indication of what to expect...if Dean hits the warm Caribbean water, it will certainly gain strength....enough of this thread for now....Good night all, look after one another,
j
Holding all of you close in my prayers. God keep these exceptional friends safe. Amen
LouC, I agree with you in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
and Amen.
I want to add my prayers also. Please God keep us all safe through this hurricane season. Let Your will be done. We know that God is Good. All the Time. Amen
I will keep a close eye on the link you posted John. I shared it with my mother since Erin is heading towards San Antonio. She's in Virginia at the moment, but her home is still there in SA.
In looking at the path of Dean, can you tell me where you are located? I can't find West Bay on the map. Please point me in the right direction. I'm map-ignorant.
Just FYI, the last link you posted didn't work for me.
Much love and Many hugs to everyone,
Janet
Sending good thoughts to all of you in dangers path right now - God Bless.
So many warm and loving thought sent through the ether will surely guide only good things in the path of all of us. Thank you all, I'm off to bed soon, will dream of soft warm rains, and gentle breezes for us all.
Just did a run-down on wunderground. Not very good at understanding all the information the give. Seems as though Erin has come on shore at Rock Port, Texas, Dean is still working up and Flossie is downgraded. I think.
Kwaj and Cayman seem to be ok for the day. Forgot to check HI. What a contrast.....we are under a pollution watch today. Those with respiratory problems are advised to stay indoors. That is in our forecast almost all the time. Today it is rated "orange" which is high on the soupy level. August in Texas is always extreme. Still hope you are safe. Shari, seems you are 100% rain for the next 5 days. John, best I could tell...your weather is just sort of normal. Now I said I really can't tell much about all the information.
Hope I am right because that would mean you are ok.

FROM THE MODELS WE HAVE SEEN TODAY, WE MAY GET DEAN ON SUNDAY NIGHT/MONDAY....COULD INTENSIFY TO CAT 4 OVER OPEN, WARM WATER..
WE HAVE OUR HURRICANE SHUTTERS READY FOR INSTALLATION, SURVIVAL BOX READY...THE LINES AT THE SUPERMARKET ARE ALREADY IN CHAOS MODE....TRAFFIC IS STANDING STILL IN CERTAIN AREAS AND DEAN HASN'T EVEN REACH THE LESSER ANTILLES YET....IVAN IS STILL FRESH IN OUR MINDS AS KATRINA IS WITH SO MANY OF OUR NORTHERN FRIENDS....
MORE INFO AS WE GET IT....
J
forgot to add...
absolutely no more available seats on any aircraft off island for the next 4 days ....Katie and I are ready as we can be....rum is the only thing left on the list and the lines aren't very long at that store!...small blessings mean so much at this time
j
Oh no. I told you I wasn't good at reading NHOA. They have been wrong before. Weather forecasting is an educated guess but you are smart to always heed the warnings. You and multiples of others will be on the top of my prayer list for your safety and that you only get rain....not much wind. You and Kate have become family and you how it is......blood is thicker than water.....and I don't want family hurt.
Thanks for the prayers Christie, like so many others here, you are family to Kates and I as well. We are prepared, we are together, we are Blessed...Thanks for the support.
I just talked with a friend who works at the utility company, if Cayman is threatened at all, power will most certainly be cut off island wide. I will update this thread as long as I can. There are going to be a number of posts made on www.stormcarib.com over the next days. The home page has a list on the right side of the page where you can read updates from almost all of the Caribbean, including Cayman. You can read my posts there as well...I am one of the corresponants there...thanks again,
j&k
John, been wandering around the internet concerning Cayman Islands....what part is your home...if I'm not out of line to ask. Don't know what it matters other than I feel like if I pin point where you are I will be better able to know what is happening to you. Thank you for other link.

Christie, click on this link and look at the island of Grand Cayman. Katie and I live in the district of West Bay, about 500 feet from the water. We lived right on the water for Ivan and did not fair well at all. 40 foot waves cleared the road with no problem, needless to say what happened to our flat...no pun intended...The house we are in now faired well during Ivan, with only part of the roof coming off and some water damage because of it. The roof was totally rebuilt with hurricane straps, should be good for anything coming....no flooding in the past here at this house..we have our sandbags all ready to go in case...
hope this helps...
j
Erin went in to the south of us, however we were on the wet side. we got 6" of rain today. We are all fine, My DD got stuck in high water and had to sit for quite awhile until some of the water receded, but except for the frustration she and her car are OK. Still many road closures here, so hope she can get home from Houston tonight.
A store roof colapsed in near by Clear Lake and one man was killed, one injured. Another roof colapsed, but don't believe there were any injuries there, a coffee manufacturer warehouse.
We are expected to get more rain tonight and tomorrow. It's been a long day.
John and Katie, take care we will keep you in our prayers! We are keeping a close watch on Dean. Predictions here are that it will get into the gulf.
John and Katie, take care and I hope you don't get the brunt of the storm. I will watch the link to keep updated and will watch the weather channel when I get home from work to get more info then too.
John, saw the change in flights....possibility that you and Katie could leave?
Where is Shari? Haven't heard from her all day.
We have had only a few sprinkles off and on today. Just enough to keep me from having to water. I've been hearing about the flooding on I-10 in Houston and am thankful that we are further East.
Keeping you in our prayers John and Katie.
Many hugs to everyone!
Janet
Tgal and Janet........hope you are not in harms way......
Beginning to get panicky about Shari..........
Thanks Pepper23 for the thoughts and wishes....we will do fine here....been thru a cat 5 and survived...things could be unpleasant for a while but this place is strong....i worry about the other islands that don't have a capacity to handle a disaster.....Christie, Katie, Spike, and I would never leave the island on account of a storm...it would take large men with weapons to make us leave this place...we had a chance to leave before Ivan and gave that a miss straight away....besides, hurricane parties are always the best on your own porch!!!
not sure about shari...thought we'd a heard from her at this point .....she is a busy girl and besides, we always feel her warm presense her even if she is missing in action...
j
I meant to ask this earlier...after Ivan and outdoor living for 3 months, we have cooked a variety of things on a open fire to eat...I have never bought a cookbook on the 564 ways to prepare spam or corned beef, but if anyone has some recipes that are to die for, send them now before the power goes off...
j
Ugh, spam. :~) No recipes, sorry.
Hah! You would be surprised at what you'll eat after 5 days of nothing!
